So there has been another development (Obviously this is a ongoing thing). On the Official SAG-AFTRA page when recording the video all Hoyoverse games were marked as struck, but as of today it seems like Hoyoverse are no longer on the strike list meaning that they might not be affected. My Guess is that the Website was just built badly resulting in a ton of false positives, which obviously is something i cannot control and will go off the information provided by the official sauce and not some guy on the internet, obviously this whole video is based of the premise that the strike does affect Hoyoverse, but for at least now it looks like there isn't going to be any problem with Hoyoverse games, and hopefully you can understand why I chose to believe the official source.

As someone who played Genshin for like 2 years i think with only the english VA... Idk... How to proceed. I mean the english voices are imprinted on the characters since i only listened to that version only. I don't think it will be the same as english once i switch to Japanese chinese or whatever.

As someone who primarily plays in EN dub because that's how I started and just used to their voices already and to avoid having to read, if the strike is for the benefit of protection of the VAs, then so be it. I can switch to JP. I will miss the EN dub, but JP is actually advantageous to me since I'm preparing for JLPT N2. I need all the immersion I can get.

This wont affect them. In the stream were he played cyno 2 quest cy yu said that he recorded his line in february. If we take this date as a base that means that hoyoverse as already atleast 3 or 4 months of voice acted content. That means that they are fine till 5.2 and than 5.3 is where the problem starts but by than one of three outcome would already happen. 1)this stops before 5.3 wich is pretty much the most probable outcome. 2)they founded a solution. 3)they hired some new voice actor.

Considering Genshin and Other Hoyo games reach Western Market where some people watch Dub on anime. I think saying random Bs numbers of ppl use English dub is stupid af. Every streamers I watched except Unreal Dreamer used English vo. I'm also used English vo but respect othet vos as well. Wuwa's VAs are mostly based in the UK, under the studio SIDE UK. This is the same studio that dubs for FFXIV, FFXVI, The Witcher, and Xenoblade. However, they do have a small studio in Los Angeles, so there are American VAs that cross over (Ben Balmaceda, Kaveh's VA, very recently voiced in the new patch for FFXIV). For now, Wuwa probably won't be affected, but that might change if they start utilizing American VAs in later patches as the number of characters expand if they decide to draw from voice talents in the US.

This isn't the first time they cut a dub. Tear of Themis, Artem's Japanese voice Junichi Suwabe caught covid, so they stopped the Japanese dub. They brought back most of it but it's either not going to be dubbed or it's just behind. I think special events are not going to be dubbed. Tears of Themis is their only 2020 game that doesn't have a dub. It was probably because of the Mr Love Debacle that happened less than a year prior, but many otome players are used to not having dubs since many localized releases still keep the Japanese voice. Part of the appeal of otome games are the Male Seiyuus. (A few female with Megumi Ogata and Mitsuki Saiga) I read that games without a dub don't tend to sell well, but since Genshin is technically free, does it really matter?

@@nyrowie It’s simple, having Spanish dub is not profitable for them because even tho there are dozens of countries who speak Spanish and Spanish is one of the most spoken languages most of those countries are underdeveloped. It’s the same why it doesn’t have a Hindi dub even tho Hindi is spoken by the millions. No German, French, Russian, or any other dud because those languages are a minority not profitable enough. This is why East Asia is where they make most of their profits and that’s why Chinese, Korean, and Japanese, English is for the rest of the world lump together who barely competes with profit as the others.

People who are uninform, Hoyo/Genshin has nothing to do with the strike, they are just an innocent party that involve just because they hire Formosa group for the VA. Hoyo/Genshin literally can't do anything to help the VA for they strike. The VA strikes is towards their respective Studios, the Formosa group is one of them. They want Formosa group to change their policy regarding AI. Formosa group and other VA studios is the one at fault. Hoyo/Genshin has nothing to do it. The best thing what Hoyo could do is to drop Formosa group entirely and hire similar VA but in different VA studio that's not affected by the strike or just hire the VA directly with a new contract if they can. I believe they should just do this but only if there's no contract tied them to Formosa group.

Well, i never use eng dub anyway, beside, the best EN VAs are barely better than the bottom quality of KR and JP VAs. If people have problem with language barrier, a low volume AI engdub overlapping the good quality VA from CN KR and JP will do perfectly. I think that in the future voice actors should be able to work with AI since it can voice act for games in real time and stuff like that. There can definitely be a way for that to happen, like the voice actor having all the rights to their own voice and being able to sell/rent out their voice to a game or company to use over a set period of time, or the companies can record/create their own AI voices. People have to accept that AI is a very big part of the future and if people just won't accept that then the industry can't move forwards. Nobody wants to record ten million lines of dialouge, it would take way to much time and money, but with AI you wouldn't have to.

AI generated content is not bad, the training datasets need to be properly sourced and paid for though. All these companies just stealing work for their training sets is just appalling.

@@lagrangewei from what I've seen and read of the strike it's for protection for unauthorized use of an actors likeness in training a generative AI using their performances. This would protect actors from having all their recording session for a game used to train a generative AI without their consent. I fully support this strike. I do not believe this strike prevents companies from using generative AI completely, granted I don't think the union would accept any contracts that involved it.
