Before the events of the game, the parents of Kamisato Ayaka and Kamisato Ayato have both passed away. As the eldest son of the clan, Kamisato Ayato succeeded his father and took over the responsibilities of the Kamisato clan in the Yashiro Commission and managed to regain the honor of the broken clan while taking care of his young sister. Noticing the burden placed on the shoulders of her brother, she challenges Ayato to duel (presumably to show her ambition to help share her brother's burden). She gained her Cryo Vision at that point which allowed her to defeat Ayato in a single strike, and thus she has woken up from being "little Ayaka" and started her duties as the Shirasagi Himegimi (White Heron Princess).

This animation is probably my favourite thing to ever come out of the genshin impact channel because it’s just so well done! You feel like you’ve watched an entire season of anime worth of character development in the space of 4 minutes and it’s just mind blowing! Not to mention the outstanding music and the animation that serves as eye candy, I just can’t! It’s just so good and I’m so glad you’ve reacted to it, it’s definitely a great way to ease you into Inazuma and Ayaka’s and Ayato’s story!

this is Ayaka's origin story this is how she received her vision many characters get their visions at important moments in their lives like this and also the element they receive is according to the ideals of that character for example Ayato received Hydro which is the element of justice because he does everything to be a fair and good clan leader

One of my favourite siblings duos ever! Ayaka cared so much about helping her brother, that her ambition to lessen his burden became so intense that it awakened her vision! And I think Ayato noticed that patch of ice appear on the ground just before the vision awakened, and used his own vision to push her extra hard to see if her vision would awaken!

Tsubaki is Camellia in English. Ayaka's fan has them painted on it and the family crest is also the same flower. Beautiful and hardy flowers, just like these siblings.

She and Ayato had a dual to decide if Ayaka would share respincibilty since He doesn't enjoy the host/planning side and he has his plate full with the political side of running their commision. And Ayato already had his vision so it was already one sided until she obtained her vision and bested him.

I will never get over the fact that Ayato had a blue aura surronding him starting 2:32. HE USED HIS HYDRO VISION AGAINST HIS SISTER WHO HAD NO VISION BEFOREHAND. Talk about hardcore training..

Someone mentioned in a comment of another video about this that they theorized he sensed that Ayaka was finally at the point where he could use his vision

@@evewhoo plus they were both fighting to see whose will would hold out- ayato who wanted to shelter his younger sister and shoulder all the burdens himself, or ayaka who wanted to shoulder them with him and support him in running the clan. he was totally serious in this spar, and yet in the end ayaka won and even manifested her vision at the moment her ambition reached its peak, which goes to show how intensely she loves her family. ayaka and ayato are such beautiful characters- they went through so much and had to grow up really quickly before they even got to mourn their parents. i'm glad they had thoma by their side :')

Both die. To be brief, an incident called Raiden Gokaden put Kamisato clan in bad situation. The pressures cause their parents die from sickness and overwork.

Their parents did die. I think the dad died from being severely injured after the Raiden Gakuden incident (the 2.6 Irodori festival event expands on that lore) and the mom probably died later from grief. That’s why Ayato and Ayaka had to step into their roles to take over the Yashiro commission.

Nope, the one who was severly injured after the Raiden Gakuden incident was their great-grandfather along with Kazuha's great-grandfather. However, the Kamisato's power was greatly shook and was in decline. The dad overworked himself to death. While the mother soon passed away due to grief as you said. Both died when the Kamisato's siblings was still very young.
