This is what I've been looking for all these years! Every time I searched for "how a suit should fit", I got very vague guidelines like "it should feel comfortable". But Sven has done us all a favor and gone into the minutiae of the suit. This is just golden!

When I volunteered at a museum and dressed in period costume, I was lucky that one of the 19th-century-style three-piece suits fit me almost perfectly. It was like wearing pajamas, because it was a wool suit. On days when I was tired at work, I would nearly fall asleep standing up. It was super comfortable.

Thank you for this information. My 11 year old boys just joined an organization where they are required to wear a suit. At first they were against wearing one because it wouldn't "feel right", but after watching this and fitting the suit to them they love how it feels and want to wear it all the time. I think everyone should know how a suit should fit. Thank you so much Raphael.

Raphael, I’m so happy you mentioned “It Happened One Night.” To this day, when I think of an exemplary silhouette of a suit, I think of the scene where Clark Gable (he’s my great great uncle) is rebuking Mr. Shapely on the bus. And in fact, your suit had indeed reminded me of his, even before you had mentioned it! Cheers, and thanks!

Regarding armholes, I recently purchased a suit where I felt restricted because of the armholes of the suit. Can you create a video where you don on various suits of your wardrobe to illustrate the proper armhole fit on your suits? We can see your collection (spring, summer, fall or hot, rain, fog, etc) and get an idea of the ideal armhole. Thanks. Great videos by the way.

I find the real hallmark of a bespoke or well tailored suit is when you look across the back and around the back of the upper arm. There’s always usually way too much excess fabric here and it creates unsightly creasing or bunching. It’s the hardest area to get right but I find that if you sort the back out, the front generally looks after itself.

I honestly love that a a man who constantly wears pants that look like bags of fabric bunched together into a loose tube can still give okay advice on the shoulder fit of a suit. I prefer a much more modern style of suit than what you are describing, I think that most of your collection looks way out of date instead of classy and vintage but I like that you touched on the key point of wearing what one feels comfortable in.

Hi Sir, I would like to know what is the best suit style for me im 5'7". Round built. With love handles on my waist. I have made a suit recently but the cut just made me rounder on the mid section. Perhaps you could share a picture of the right style. Thank you.
@NDakota793 жыл бұрын
Very hard for me to get a good fit. I am quite short with 170cm, but I am very athletic. I have muscular legs, broad shoulders, tiny waist and no stomach, I have what you call a six pack. So I usually get a size 23 for jackets to avoid having too much fabric around the belly and for the jacket sleeves not to be too long. But then there often is not enough fabric for my shoulders and chest. Same thing with trousers: When I get a size that fits around the waist there usually is not enough space for my muscular legs.
@toonsoffun57333 жыл бұрын
You should perhaps start wearing suspenders. This way you do not need a belt which is nice when the pants are slightly to big. As for the jacket I'm not to sure. To be honest it's probably a good thing you are slightly shorter most jackets nowadays tends to be too short for me at least (185 cm).

Do you have any ideas for how to wear purple?
@BBoyCards7 жыл бұрын
Do you mean a suit or shirt? I recommend going a super light lilac for a shirt. As for a purple suit, I have one myself. Try getting a darker plum one to not look like the joker. Also wear it with confidence.
@basil_jackson7 жыл бұрын
As someone who loves purple I can give you few tips. Safe start with a strong purple colour is a tie. In general it's good to pair purple with medium and light grey, charcoal may look a bit sad. Tan and not very dark brown should look good too. For a shirt as suggest by Dany a much lighter shade of purple is lovely and it can be paired with a strong toned purple tie too. And since it's lighter in colour it may look pretty good with dark grey/charcoal suit/jacket. Should look good with yellow as well, but that might give people the Joker vibe. If you're a hat guy a purple hat with a purple tie is a very nice mix. Another detail that works great in purple are shoes. I own a pair of nubuck purple double monks and often get compliments on them. A more daring piece would be a waistcoat. In this case again - going with lighter purple and some pattern (check, stripes, houndstooth) could be paired with a darker suit (even black if for whatever reason you'd choose to wear one), while a darker one will look better with medium to light grey, tan, beige etc. As for suit or overcoat you should go with much darker, plum tone and again it would be wise to avoid vivid yellow/greens to go with it. While I personally love that mix, many people again will think of the Joker immediately and you might not want it. A tie/scarf with a very light bits of yellow/green should work nicely though. Hope that helps a bit!

What do you think of the fit on Conor Mcgregors suits?
@MAREMthenME7 жыл бұрын
I know I'm not Sven but I'm sure he'd say it's not for him. Sven and Conor have very different bodytypes and I doubt Sven would end up with the same look as Connor given the same style of cut. The key thing for both is that they have a lot of capital or sponsorships for suits that they can experiment on. They can have different suits for different types of occasions. I think Sven and Antonio of Real Men Real Style cater towards the traditional cuts while Jose Zuniga of Teachingmen'sfashion and Aaron Marino of AlphaM cater towards a trendier/current style. Probably because of their respective bodytypes as well. Personally, I like Conor's suits because it complements his strengths for now. If you can afford to buy 1 suit every 2 years then you can go for the Connor style suits. Just don't go as tight with the upper sleeves if you don't have round biceps.
