@@gentwithin As someone who owns both CH and J&M shoes, they're both tops in terms of comfort, but you get that at the cost of longevity... both will wear out in a couple/few years with regular use. the leather on my Allen Edmond Strands definitely feel thicker & more substantial than my beckett simonons Vasco oxfords. I've only had both of them for around 6-7 months. I can tell that the Allen Edmond's will not crease as much as the Simonons. I do like them both though. Beckett simonon oxfords definitely felt more comfortable right out of the box. After about maybe 6-weeks, my Allen Edmond Strands finally began to feel comfortable. I was not wearing these shoes everyday though. I probably wear the Allen Edmonds 1-2 days a week, which is about the same w/ the Beckett Simonon.

I own 4 pair of AE and one pair of BS (double monks). The AEs were around $250 on sale and the BS were about 200. So in realistic terms the price is VERY similar. I think the quality of the AE leather is superior to the BS. I do not think the quality of workmanship on the AEs was much superior. Again, I only have one pair of BS. I also have two pair of shoes from Herring which are made in England. The leather is a bit stiff and took a little longer to break in but I actually think they are better than AE or BS if you know your UK size. Some are available in a wide size (not all). I have a pair of black cap toes and a pair of wingtip in Walnut. Each was 257 US dollars and I am very happy with the quality.

I have the hoyt (in bordeaux) as well...when B-S shoes get down to $119-150, then it's a steal. $200 is basically retail for them. Brandon Mouton the wide variety of last, style and size without a strict QC system turned their advantage to their weakness. I’m so lost with my Grayson loafer, 5th Ave and McAllister and the fit are different. Don’t even talk about their boots.
@BarryShaffer5 жыл бұрын
Good review. I own several pairs of each, and agree with much of what was said but do think materials and fit are MUCH better with AE. B.S. Leather quality is just not on on the same level as AE - both my B.S. (monk and wholecuts) showed considerable creasing after just one wear - my two year old, ‘daily driver’ AE Tate wingtips look better. Creased up wholecuts just look terrible. Also, for me, AEs listing of lasts and the variety of widths they offer allows a much better ability to get a perfect fit and, just as importantly I can order other styles in the same Last and be assured the same fit. B.S. just can’t provide that fit variety now. I can’t deny the low cost proposition of B.S. but I’m finding that I just don’t enjoy them as much as others in my collection so they tend not to get worn much...
@gentwithin5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, Barry. All valid points. AE's leather is higher quality. My B-S Durant Brogues & Dean Oxford haven't creased, but like you the monks (currently testing) creased considerably on first wear which is slightly disappointing. Agreed on the creased up wholecuts, not a good look. The variety of widths and lasts with AE is surely an advantage where B-S can't compete.

I own two pairs of BS, in cap toe brogue and monkstraps, as well as a dozen AEs. I'd totally agree with nearly everything you've said here. The only thing I'd note is that after contacting BS and asking how to size a 7.5, I was told size down. I was reluctant but did so and found them to fit nearly exactly the same as the AE 7.5. Not sure what to make of that and how it would impact a true 7 foot, but that's that. Like yours, my cap toes began to crease ever so slightly just behind the cap. Not unsightly, but enough that the shine of the cap meets a duller textured distal vamp section before reaching the more posterior shiny vamp. I love them all and fortunately, don't need to choose one over the other. I'm looking at Rancourt nowadays.

Only having one width is a deal killer on the Beckett Simonon for me. For years shoe stores kept selling me 9D width shoes, because that's what they had, and not knowing better that's what I got. They were never that comfortable and damaged my feet. Finally getting a Bannock device and finding out my true size and buying a pair of Allen Edmonds 10Bs was a revelation!! Unfortunately the damage to my feet is permanent. If you've got D width feet, one of the most common, that's great, but if you don't avoid them like the plague!

The Strand is quite a unique design. The look is in between a semi brogue and full brogue. It also has a ‘heaviness’ somewhat reminiscent of English country styling. A great casual shoe but for an office brogue I would opt for a sleeker last, narrower broguing (and less of it) in the Adelaide style. I personally think the Adelaide is the most formal looking semi brogue.

AE is the Michael Jackson of shoes, in terms of popularity, and should just be out in a league of their own instead of in comparisons. They are the number one business Shoe and if you get into their variations you really need no other kind of shoe especially if you are using the shoes for that intended purpose . Many would perceive that they have been in business for a long time, but the sartorial knows that they have been refining their image for a long time. so for some new shit on the block to come up and think that they could stand next to them? That no go so

Hello Khoi, sorry for this super late question. I have questions about sizing of Beckett Simonon. First, this is my situation. I am usually a 7.5 in sneakers (Adidas 7.5) and most other shoes are EU 39 or EU 40. I think I have a short but maybe slightly wide feet, like Adidas 7 is good for length, but width is slightly discomfort, but 7.5 Adidas bring a lot of comfort for width. Can I ask you if u have the measurement of the width of you foot in inches or centimeters? Like the max width of your biggest foot ? I have chat with BS customer service and they cant provide the information so I guess the only way to figure out if size 7 is good for me is ask you. Thanks a lot in advance! Love your channel

these fashion clothing fanatics bandy around the term gentleman like it means nothing. A gentleman is not someone who is simply polite, or well dressed which is very subjective. Gentleman is a social rank that very few men possess. It cannot be attaineed by dressing like your social betters. that is usually a habit of snobs who try to emulate the behaviors of the nobility while looking down on people of their own social class
