Kirby, again renovating a pair of shoes in his bespoke "shoe renovating suit". I have to say, no one does it better with the Saphir products. I've bought nothing else, at his recommendation.

Hey Kirby, just wanted to say thanks for all these wonderful videos. You got me into shining my own shoes, and I just bought my first pair of Fifth Avenues in black. I placed my first order from your store, and will be back for more! Could not and would not have done it without you. My shoes look fabulous, and they give me a lot of self confidence in the workplace.

Another pair of shoes saved! Excellent restoration, Kirby. I've done a Maxfield, a Cody and lately, an old pair of Bruno Magli's. I also have found that unless a shoe has been abused and dried out, the Saphir creme polish will work as good as renovateur. You still need to use the polish after nourishing, anyway. I bought my 5th avenue pair on sale, new.

Hi Kirby, I’ve been following you for a few years now and like the variety of content you bring out. Being a Brit, I particularly liked the series you did of going to the bespoke tailors, shoemakers etc. around London. A quick question slightly off topic. While watching the above video, there was a lot of close-ups of your wedding ring. I’ve been after something similar for a while. Was it bespoke and where could I get in touch with someone that would do something like yours?

Kirby, another great video. It was a great recommendation to put cream polish on the edge, and to use polish.....for special occasions, I've also put some mirror gloss over it just to give it little more shine. wondering if there's anything that can be done to make the bottom of the shoes a bit better. I sit most of the day and have the habit of crossing my legs from time to time, and bottom of shoes look terrible in comparison to top. thanks!

Just a suggestion. You might need to adjust the color between the close up shot and your wide shot. Its pretty confusing to know which of the color of the shoe is the real one. The wide shot looks very contrast and saturated while the close up one has very soft and subtle color

Kirby I have question. In a previous video you mentioned that you needed to use the pig bristle only on textured leathers like Russian reindeer, braided leather and pebble grain leather. But as far as I could see in this video, these park avenues were regular calfskin. Can you explain why you chose to use the pig bristle instead of horsehair? Another question I have for you is why did you not use the renovatur (sorry if I spelled wrong) to condition the leather? I know you said you were in a rush but since these shoes were so badly damaged wouldn’t a conditioner like the dubbin, renovatur, mink oil, or the Napa balm be necessary since the shoes were in such a terrible state?

Kirby, great video as always! My question is Why did you use Paté De luxe all over the shoe? I noticed you didn't do the vamps obviously. In your other videos I know you stress how much not to put wax on any other areas other than the toe cap and the heel.. I have a pair of cheaney oxfords would you recommend me using Paté De luxe like you did in this video? Obviously I would finish off the toe cap and heal with mirror gloss.

I enjoyed learning about the Saphir products and their application but in my opinion blue/black/grey trousers should never be worn with brown shoes. I am sure that others will disagree but that's my opinion! Save perhaps for tan shoes with blue denim jeans.

kirby, any reason you don't use accessories on your tie like a tie bar? i imagine it would be easier to keep your tie in place when performing manual labour like polishing your shoes. i personally don't like those "spring" tie bars because they exert too much force on both shirt and tie, and they also contain sharp edges on one side. i prefer the type that you just "slide" into the shirt and tie to minimize damage.

I recently wore my Allen Edmonds in the rain and snow/salt. Along the bottom of the upper there were dried salt stains and the leather bubbled up in a couple spots. I tried to get the salt off and reshine my shoes over the weekend. I started by using Reno Mat to strip the shoes of the shine I applied previously. Then I used the Renovatuer and Dubbin to condition the shoes, and finally the Pommadier and Pate de Luxe to shine the shoes, both #3 light brown. The results were less than spectacular. My walnut shoes have taken on a darker tone, especially on the toe, and the shoes are almost a matte finish now even after brushing and cloth polishing. Is there a product or process I can follow to get my shoes back to a mirror shine? Thank you!
@racerx1326

What type of sole do you think is the best for this shoe? I'm thinking about getting walnut color and not sure if I should get the leather, V-tread, or red dainite. I live in Los Angeles, so we don't have much rain.

Kirby, I always renovate the tongue under the vamp when I remove the shoelaces. The tongue is essential for keeping splashes out on wet weather, so should not be neglected. And I know you are advertising when making these videos, but come on, own up - how often do you get polish on those nice Charvet cuffs?

Any recommendations for shoes with more broguing and serration like the AE Strands? I have trouble with buildup of waxes along the edges and in the broguing. Brushing reduces it but I still find it very noticeable, close to the serrations especialy where it is hard for the brush bristles to get into and I have to brush a LOT.

The ones in that packaging are the beaute de cuir ( excuse me horrible spelling since it is French) which is the lower end of the saphir line. The best kind of polish that they have is the medialle dOR but the beaute the cuir is still better that any other shoe polish like Lincoln or kiwi because it still does not use any kind of petroleum based solvents that would damage the leather. If you want more info I would suggest checking out Mr. Allison’s Q&A #4 video on this same channel he goes into detail and explains this question better than I ever could. Hope you have a nice time taking care of your shoes!

I have a question, can I use neutral cream polish and hard wax on brown or burgundy shoes to hide the scuff marks ? or do i need to apply same as shoe color cream to remove the scuff marks ?
@danielquintero2339
@danielquintero2339 6 жыл бұрын
You need to use the same pigment because the way you hide the scuff is by putting pigment on the shoe and a neutral does not have any color because, well that is the point.

Mr. Allison: I wear Allen Edmonds' Fifth Ave in "brown" (which, by the way, was recently discontinued and replaced by the lighter "coffee"). In this video, you end up using what you call "the Havana or tobacco brown" (4:30) as the best color match. However, I notice on your website the #34 "tobacco" appears MUCH darker than the shade you're using here, and there is no "Havana brown" listed. So, are you actually referring to and using the #37 "medium brown"?
@kirbyallison
@kirbyallison 5 жыл бұрын
Alex Roll Tobacco brown very close to mid-brown. Could be color matching issues in post that are leading to this difference on-screen.

Question for you Kirby....I have a pair of Fifth Avenues. I polished them before I ever wore them but for some reason, there's a spot about the size of a half dollar on one of the toes that just won't take a shine right. I can't get this spot to look like the rest of the shoe. Any thoughts or advice? The only thing I can think of is maybe I used too much water when polishing off the hard wax? I used Saphir so I don't think that's it. Could I have rubbed too hard? Thanks for any advice you can give!

My AE use to have a spot that is darker. Not sure if it's the same issue with you. I use renomat and redo the polish. With smaller amount of polish this time it works
@zoooz899
@zoooz899 6 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue with one pair of shoes. It was because i used too much water to polish + was a aggressive in polishing. What solved the issue was burnishing the whole toe side with the underside of a heated metal spoon. What it did is liquidate the Saphir polish that was applied into the spot and the leather in the spot ended up looking like any other polished side of the shoe. I don't think its a great idea to try this on a high end shoe, but give it a try on an older shoe if you have one to see if that works for you.
