"I don't even have that chipset on my system"... last Voodoo card was released about 20 years ago, and 3DFX was bought by NVIDIA. Really interesting use flag, LOL.

Using Arch right now but I've used Gentoo as well. I do want to return to it someday when I have the time and motivation to set it up. I liked being able to have that control of my system. Gonna watch some more Gentoo videos now.

From my personal experience, disabling dbus globally can be very problematic if you use Gentoo as a desktop OS. Good vid though :)

What OS and DE/WM do you use as your daily driver?
@MentalOutlaw4 жыл бұрын
I use several, Windows 10 & Debian at my job. Linux Mint, Gentoo, and Kali Linux for personal use. In Gentoo I use DWM, in Kali I use KDE, and in Mint I use XFCE.

I am in the process of installing gentoo. Currently I am compiling the kernel. Gonna take a while, used the noob kernel package. I truly like the simple and straightforward style of this video. It seems like it is just trial and error with what can be disabled. Just remember what you turned off , in case something breaks. Is that about right?

Could you just use -* to remove all USE FLAGS and then add all the USE Flags that you need? Or would that potentially create some problems?

Wouldn’t recommend it, but I won’t stop you.
@juzujuzu45554 жыл бұрын
@@notelijahking8038 I assume it would create some problems, but it would be nice to know what problems it might cause, and is there any way to mitigate those problems, or will it just become harder way to achieve the same?
@yomurita4 жыл бұрын
@@juzujuzu4555 It's basicaally a harder way to achieve the same. The profile will just set the necessary USE flags for the usage of the system on the parameters you decided (so if you did /desktop/plasma/systemd it'll set the flags to use plasma, qt and systemd, along other things

Do you run an Nvidia card? If so can you explain a custom initramfs? Genkernel compiles with "CONFIG_I2C_NVIDIA_GPU" which breaks the nvenc in OBS-studio. How to get nvenc working?

@Unknown Person This has successfully turned off the I2C_NVIDIA_GPU config option in the kernel. However the nvenc option still doesn't work in OBS - says drivers are outdated. Nvidia drivers 450.57-r1installed. How to enable nvenc?

Let me preface this by saying I really enjoy your videos and am often in agreement with you. I disagree with the "you might as well use Linux mint" I use arch-based systems (not arch itself, I can't be bothered to set it up) because I fell in love with pacman and with the AUR and because they are rolling release. It's foolish to think you're better than anyone for running Arch (and some people run Arch because they think it's cool), but there are legitimate use cases for it.
