Dirty used motor oil is the perfect stain for wood trailer decks, I remember my grandfather getting his paint roller out after doing oil changes and treating the wood. He always made sure to get plenty between the boards. After sitting in the sun for a few hours he would grab a shovel and broom and spread sand from the yard and let it sit before sweeping the sand off the trailer. Oil is great for preserving and waterproofing wood.
