You should have done what Derrick from Vice Grip Garage would’ve done. Throw in some new Sparkalators and new Fuel Make It Happeners on your trucks. Works every time. 😅😅😅

Parts these days are junk, we need more old school starter & alternator shops in all the cities & towns again.

Ya it’s sad. I threw 14 starters in the junk cause I couldn’t find anyone to rebuild them

I used to drive a Freightliner that someone modified the air tank mounting. They took a standard Freightliner air tank mounting bracket that bolted to the frame and hung down and slightly outboard of the frame, and turned them upside down so that they still bolted to the outside of the frame rail, then the heated the breackets and bent them in toward the center of the truck. In that case the air tank hung off the bottom of the bracket. The tank ended up between the frame and the drive shaft with plenty of clearance. It was completely out of the way, and pretty much out of sight.

Oh neat.

@@JamesPretty I had one break on me when out of town (in a very small location). Phone call with Freightliner didn't yield anything that I wanted, so I had someone bring me what they had. It was then I realized what had been done before I got in the truck. We did the same thing again with a new bracket, inspected the others (they were fine), and went on our way. My take away was that it was a good solution. They had needed to move the air tanks when they added a lift axle. The truck got a lot of rough use and rough roads. I didn't feel bad about the breakage on the high side of 1,000,000 mi.

I’m trying to figure out why you want to just keep cranking on the starter to try and get the trucks running on such a cold day. It’s not like they’re going to work or anything. All that extra abuse for no reason at all.
@R.Hunter-q9t2 күн бұрын
Those are 2 awesome looking trucks. The KW you tried starting first and I have never seen the front of Crystal, nice looking truck from the rear. After those 2 trucks wouldn't start then I would have called it a day. Temperature here is 15 degrees.

@@JamesPretty It's been a ride for sure. I get the feeling you might not enjoy doing interior work so much, but it'd be cool to see a dashboard in one of the trucks like an aircraft cockpit. Tons of colored buttons and switches, with brushed aluminum and things. I always like race car switch panels like that, and planes are similar. It might be cool.

I have a loving relationship with my impact screwdriver. It's the only thing I've found that can reliably remove bearing retainer screws from motorcycle engine cases. I use impact-rated JIS bits, and they're top-notch.

As the saying goes, "You can't win them all, " but at least you tried to fire them up. I know this isn't an aviation channel of course, but I'd love to hear what in your professional opinion as a pilot could've caused that midair crash in DC earlier in the week. And then the one in Philly to top it off. It's not been a good week for the aviation world. I was down at the scene of the crash in DC back on Thursday night right after it happened. I won't get into what I do and why I was there on FB but I'm curious as to how that could happen. I've never met you personally but you are the only pilot I know of. I have lots of questions after being there and I think your take would be interesting and surely educate me on some of my questions. I'll have to find someone who I can talk to about the subject. Be safe out there flying James! I guess flying in and out of the busiest airports you really have to be on your game and keep your eyes open.

Why crank it till the batteries die. I was taught if it’s cold turn the headlights on and then off to shock the batteries and warm them.
@JamesPretty2 күн бұрын
not sure the headlight thing is real I heard that back in the 80's but its not been substantiated. some times you just hope it'll start firing before they expire.. gotta give it a full chance..
