You can lock the power divider, pull the axle shafts out of the front axle, build some plywood or steel covers to cap off the hubs, and just run it as a single drive axle for the one trip. No probs and get it rolling.

We use to use those same pintle hitches with the spring cushion on our dump trucks and we pulled 953's and those 46,000 pound off road fork lifts and they would wear the spring out after about a year of use and we had one of them break right at the spot where it twists at ,so we went to the bigger more heavy duty hitches they still rotate but they don't have that weak spring, you have to keep an eye on the hitche every load just like you did with the last setup

Up here in Michigan where we pull what we call short doubles we use hitches like that to hook the trailer draw bars to. The difference is the draw bars don’t carry any weight so those spring loaded hitches both pintle style and fish mouth aren’t carrying weight only pulling it. My concern for you is those hitches are rated at 40,000# but is that tongue weight or pulling weight it’s rated at?

Trucks can really kick you when your having a bad week, I worked for drivetrain rebuilding companies for 20 years and have seen a lot of issues from mixed axle ratios. I'm you know tooth counts are stamped on the end of pinion and on the ring gear, never go bye what is stamped on a housing or tag since things get swapped around over years or someone stamped the wrong ratio on a tag. Good luck with what you find, I don't suppose the oid core unit is still their to get a tooth count or know where it might be to check.
