They can use the dupe exploit as a resource for learning how deep players can currently go in the crafting systems/trading systems to test if they need to be fleshed out more or added upon, this would be similar to what another new MMO called Corepunk announced they did when they had Alpha testing and a dupe glitch was found, they then had enough data to learn that they needed to improve on their systems connected to itemization/crafting etc. so yea not that terrible of a issue for an Alpha that wipes to have if Intrepid can learn something from it!

Lyneth is proud that guilds with hundreds of players managed this. It's great, and gz for pulling together, but let me tell you another story: On Shol, we did the same, and we had less than 5 ppl farming hundreds of emblems and all the droppings. Those are the guys I am proud of! Never giving up, even when orders were reduced to 1 item after they already farmed 3/4 of the beer order with 10 items/order. They are not mayors and they dont even have the skills to use those stations. Those are my heroes.

But I feel there should be more praise for people who work hard in the face of adversity. Some of the guys on Shol did all of this while some other guilds declared war on them. They disbanded their guilds due to the endless war bug, and they carried on farming and crafting, all because they set their minds to this objective.

Castus player here. We have a very similar experience. while some toxic guilds and dupers have plagued the game slightly they were quickly dealt with and we continue to make amazing progress.

I think everyone is kinda passing over the fact that mega guilds are death for servers. If this kind of stuff keeps happening it'll be a blast for the 4k member guilds and a Ghostland outside of them. It's a bummer, but it's true, hopefully the limiting of guild sizes to 300 and not enabling any type of 'alliance' mechanic will solve the issue.

This. The whole video I was thinking "well yeah you had fun Narc, you have a dozen dudes who want to play with you". I'm questioning what the experience will be like for the solo player. I don't think most people with a gaming group with have the time to go deep into an MMO, actually. Too many games to choose from that aren't based on several people enjoying a mind-numbing grind. This is why every popular MMO has trended towards catering to solo players, because that is literally the playerbase.

I'm happy to be a part of the testing, and I am very invested in helping make sure it becomes something I want to spend a long time playing.... But I keep hearing people saying how much fun the Alpha 2 is and I'm very puzzled. The combat is good but it's the ONLY thing I can point to that I would actually call fun in the game currently. Is everyone so completely focused on combat that it's the only thing they consider when deciding if they are having fun? Or are they having fun in other aspects of the game that seem decidedly un-fun to me? I'm puzzled, and worried.

Ive been having fun exploring, gathering resources, partying up with random people shooting the shit while grinding out mobs, talking about guild/node drama, finding groups to pvp. Like yeah there still isn't a lot since this phase isn't focused on that but phase 2 should add in more stuff to do which is what I'm excited for because more artisan stuff

Bit the bullet and jumped on this weekend because of your content. I'd had an ear to the ground for AOC following Thor, besides getting booted a few times lyneth was great. Managed lvl 9 with a cleric because so many people were willing to group together and reduce waiting on respawns while helping with directions and locations for other quests. I look forward to more time contributing to a positive community working to win an enjoyable competition.

Another month on Resna... Idk if I can cope with that. We're trying to explore crafting, but we're hampered due to the streamer guilds' choke hold on node progression. They're literally cucking the server. Some might find it as a win, but it's really just toxic.

My honest question to the people that played alpha so far: will this social aspect of aoc hold until the release, or will it be solved more and more with each character reset, as the alpha progresses? Is this game immune to being solved by players? Or is this experience unique to the early alpha. I was super sceptic of aoc before, but since the alpha 2 release I've been watching some streams every weekend and I'm a lot more interested now. I still have my reservations, though I must say I'm pretty close to buying the alpha access. Please share your thoughts.

Solved as in how? Do you mean people will min max the social aspects out of the game? No. The game is designed to be more efficient in a group. You can solo but you can't really pull more than 1 1* mob of your level at a time without dying and you'd get like maybe 1500xp for that solo kill maybeee a mage or bard could take 2 at a time for 3k xp but slower clear times. Where as in a group I routinely can get 5k+ for mobs and we're pulling 3-5 mobs at a time with similar clear speeds as solo. Plus caravans can't be done solo thatll only become more true on release servers where there is no wipe to make you worry about the items less. All and all no I don't think players will be able to ruin the social aspects in the name of efficiency, if they found a way I'm also pretty confident Ashes would change whatever that is to be a bit less rewarding to bring it back in line with the games core philosophy which is group based play.

What might not hold until release is people's interest. The game as it is presented currently has been completed. It's been 9 days. With phase 2 there will be more to do and so on into phase 3 and beyond. My worry is that with the length of Alpha/Beta, will players want to start again and grind in 1.0 for what they've already had for years in alpha/beta? Unless Intrepid have something up their sleeve for 1.0.

a good experience is entirely based on having good people make up that experience. i had the straight up vanilla experience in my classic wow guild in 2019, 40 of us did our own thing, figured out the raids on our own without guides, leveled at a reasonable pace. if your server is filled with shite, it will play like shite, gatekeep properly and you would be astonished at the quality of the experince.

MMO's are expensive to make and expensive to operate and if you don't get monthly subscriptions up and running then you're running on borrowed time. The full game will be $15/month. That's $180/year. We're paying $120 for at the absolute minimum 8 months of play time if phase 3 is 1 day long and beta 1 and 2 don't even happen. The more likely time frame is a year and a half to 2 years. The second that phase 3 starts every single alpha tester has gotten their moneys worth in terms of subscription price ($15*8=$120) and every day that phase 3 goes on and beta 1 and 2 go on the studio is going to be racing to finish the game so they can start getting money again. I've never in my life seen so much unfounded hate and easily debunked skepticism for a game and I honestly am starting to question if big MMO's are paying people to post negative comments because this is absolutely ridiculous.

It's looking more and more like a zerg simulator, and how happy all the streamers are with it is starting to be evidence of that statement. I don’t know what conditions must exist for one or two people to control such a territory for the sake of the zerg In addition, the point is that not all residents of one node will necessarily be representatives of the same guild, which means they do not have to do what a certain zerg guild wants. Or if something goes wrong, they can leave one node and move to the other side of the world, where there will be “supposedly” different rules of existence and other players. And the point of the alpha is to test the game and find flaws that could harm the game in the future

Which means a gigantic portion of the gameplay: building nodes, choosing what type they are, what to prioritize , what to harvest, what to ship, when to caravan, who your enemies are etc will always, always come down to the top 1 or 2 guys and they're always going to be streamers. Look I was always worried that this game would become streamer meta, but not only is it already happening, they're incentivizing and gearing precisely for that scenario.

All you really need are streamers with a couple hundred loyal followers and there is no reason the size of the map will change the outcome. It's like rolling a dice loaded to always hit 5 or 6. You can roll it 100,000 times it's going to be the same outcome. Again, yes, *_you_* can do what *_you_* want on your infinitesimally small scale like harvest what you want and do your own questing, but *_everything_* else will be dictated by those who run the nodes. If you argue this point, you are basically taking the position that nodes don't serve any important function, which is an instant loss of the debate because we both know that's not the case and that nodes are important; the whole game is designed around them. To brush off nodes like "Eh, you dont need to engage with them" is to say "Eh, dont worry about the game's entire core pillar, you can play in the splashpool instead."

Steven appeared outside Miraleth on Lotharia server in EU, AFAIK there's no big streamers on it. He nuked us and gave us over 100K XP debt, then gave gold as recompense. So here’s my honest opinion. First of all, I love Narc and his content, and I’ve been a supporter of his channel since he hit 6k subs on KZbin. But when I tried to join his guild after asking several times, he just said his mods or whatever would manage the guild since you have to create sub-guilds due to the fact that there can only be 50 players in each, I think. So I applied on his Discord and was just chatting about random stuff, joking around, being sarcastic about different things. The people I chatted with literally didn’t care or take it offensively. But there was a girl, a Discord mod, who interfered in the conversation, probably being triggered, and insulted me as retarded, unsocial, and autistic. I defended myself, not accepting being randomly insulted by a Discord mod who was not involved in the conversation. I pointed out her double standards and her inability to interpret my sarcasm correctly, which led to me being gatekept from the community. Therefore, I had to play this game on my own and tried to group up with random people. But most of them were part of their own guilds, and it was tough to consistently get into groups. So I tried to find farming spots that you could solo, but rubberbanding and desyncing made it a pretty rough experience. It is possible to solo farm and grind, but you fall behind very quickly and miss all the fun stuff going on. Also, random groups just greed and need every piece of gear that drops, even if it’s not designed for their class, which makes it very unrewarding to grind with strangers. I tried to communicate and divide it fairly, but the selfishness of people made the experience frustrating as well. You also don’t get involved in node progression, and people seem to just not care about players who aren’t part of their guild. General information isn’t shared with you either. Regarding PvP, it’s also a big issue if you’re not connected with a guild or through Discord because you’ll just become a target for everyone. I mean, I like PvP and tried to do consensual fights, but if you’re not part of a big guild or known through Discord, people target you a lot more often, which leads to further frustration. It feels like if you’re not a jobless “retard,” people just don’t want to play with you. Most players seem to put their life and soul into this game to achieve power in-game through level and gear advantage, which they lack in real life. This is a very toxic trait shared among many. I hope this helped. overall i like playing the game, but for a casual player with limited free time, it often can be a very tough experience.

@@martialis2974 It's interesting how different our experiences are. While not everything is different, I'd say the behavior of people is the biggest difference. I'm playing on EU servers and played on 2 different servers now (I started fresh on Aeterna because my friend got access when those servers opened), and groups have almost always just formed naturally for me, and I had a blast playing with strangers. We were chatting about the game when we sat down to regen and stuff. Never saw anyone just need every loot item, and these groups persisted even when people had to go afk or back to town to sell glint. People make sure to stay even if they already completed their kill commissions until you completed yours, and they ask to team up if they notice you kill the same mobs to speed up the process. The mayor of my node is keeping us updated about what the node needs to progress and the progress we are making as citizens via the citizen chat. I'm part of a guild but I contributed to the node on my own. I joined my guild by just asking in global for a guild and I like them a lot so far. If I have trouble finding a group, I focus on gathering + commissions, since that's still a great way to earn exp without grinding mobs and offers a nice change of pace. I'd say maybe use the next server wipe to test out a different server, maybe even EU if it doesn't cause too much connection issues.

Anyone else think that the mayoral system needs an "assistant mayor" function, someone appointed by the mayor who can also do all of the same things in order to act as back-up in case the current mayor is unable to play for whatever reason or plays on different timezones. Having so much responsibility that affects the entire server tied to one single player is a bit flawed in my opinon. There also needs to be some kind of option for a mayor to be impeached or thrown out if they do a crap job. Otherwise zerg guilds could also use mayorship to just hamstring or sabotage other nodes by installing a dummy mayor that would then either do nothing or even do harm to said node...

Unfortunately when people leave to go play something else, you'll need to make sure this game can have a server survive with only a handful of vassals/guilds. The main problem with ashes is not that it's a bad concept or a bad design. Steven and his team are intelligent and capable. The "problem" is that they designed a wonderful cart before the horse. Nothing really drives players into the game and very little will keep whoever comes to play to keep logging on to enjoy the other half. It's been nearly a decade and the pathing is bad. The movement is clunky. Mob behaviors are weird. The dungeons are lifeless. The new player experience is poor. The leveling experience is very poor (even for a grinding game.) It will be a nice game for "communities" but remain very niche. Narc is evidence of that. One server with him as a streamer and a few leaders are having a blast. If you pay €15 per month on a subscription, over the course of 1/2 years how much would that be? There will be infrequent wipes so your "progression" will carry over. New content and fixes will be introduced at designated time periods. Paying now is you supporting the development of the game. Don't want to do it, fine, watch streamers for free and play at launch. Could it be longer than 2 years? Potentially 3 max, 5 is pushing it though. Most MMO's do NOT lift NDA during an alpha phase, it simply does not happen. Intrepid Studio's is making a bold move and it cuts both ways.

The graphics overhaul will happen towards the end of phase 3/beta's. It's always the last to be done. You should also be aware that when playing the game you can change the settings to be very high (cinematic), turn on shadows, etc. The game looks gorgeous when dialed up to the max currently and it's not even had the polish applied yet. HOWEVER, this is an alpha, the game is very early and mistakes can happen that can negatively effect your hardware (GPU burnouts) as the code has not had all the issue ironed out of it. I dial the graphics up for a look when I'm away from the big population centres where people gather. When doing group play I turn it down to medium. Doesn't look as good but much much SAFER on my equipment. These issues will get found and fixed and the visuals will be bumped up in time. Did you play the alpha alex?

I maybe missing something but it sounds like Ashes has moved away from allowing any solo player growth, such as previously talked about of say being the Blacksmith for example of best armour maker for a nodes to do business with. Instead your blocked behind a guild/co-op Only Wall? If you not in a guild, or have house within node of specific you cant become the best blacksmith for weapons? OR is this just an overview of the Nodes/levelling to best service for a Node and thus excludes the yet to be seen full Solo's Home and its services as shown in last years videos ?

The funny thing is, i don't think too many people duped shit on my server (Arioch). We don't have apprentice anything yet, we just got the T2 cookhouse. All guilds and majors are working together here too. No streamers or big youtubers here, everybody's just chillin'. There was a dragon kill on the server tho.

There's going to be a scenario where the upper echelon of players band together to grief in pvp and nobody will be able to stop them for a long period of time. I fear this means that casual guilds will get relentlessly slaughtered for resources over and over again. This will 100% cause players to quit the game. We saw it happen in WoW, a game where you don't even lose resources when you get killed. If people are willing to be fulltime griefers simply for clout on WoW server discords, imagine what they'll do when there's actual resources to be had.

I'm concerned about this as well. The anti griefing mechanic seems a bit off. Having a player who griefs drop more resources when they die, doesn't really matter if the person/people that they are griefing can't kill them. I forgot the name of it, but the stacking debuff (corruption IIRC) will be like a badge of honor for these mega guilds that roll through servers like a plague of locusts. What's even worse is that once they completely decimate a server, they will mass transfer to other servers and repeat the process. I commend Steven and Intrepid for what they are trying to do with old school PVP. But it's not 2004 anymore. The player base is different. Discord changes the landscape of PVP. The mindset of PVPers is not the same as it was 20 years ago. 20 years ago the epic battle of dozens or hundreds of players in an area was a new thing that nobody had ever seen before. People engaged in it just for the experience of something new and that feeling of being on the cutting edge of where gaming is going. Now, nobody feels that way anymore. Now it's about dominating and nothing else.

If you're into support classes I can only recommand the Bard. It's one of the most fun and versatile supports I've ever played in any game and 100% what a Bard should be like. And a tip that could save you a bit of potential frustration: If you struggle to find a group at one point, just go take on commissions (for killing and/or gathering) and focus on those. Commissions are practically tailored to solo players, because just grinding solo is pointless. And keep in mind that things like chopping wood also gives you character exp. Just obviously not as much as killing mobs, but combined with commissions you'll definitely make good progress.

Over on Resna, my static figured out how to get skla'risha to spawn on Nov 8th, back before it even existed in the ashes codex. Took us 30 minutes to get it down to half health, and our tank was handling it fine, but then its timer went off and it reset. We couldn't convince enough people to come show up for the dps check since it supposedly didn't drop anything. It's depressing that we couldn't snag the world first :/

PvE and PvP can and should coexist. That's why WoW is/was so successful. PvE crowd keeps the game and community alive, the PvP crowd allows for excitement. AoC leans more into PvP, but hopefully they won't make the mistake and ignore the PvE crowds.
