I’m known for my ability to make something from nothing. I think it’s from all the time I spent with my depression era grandma. She could make some of the most amazing meals out of basically nothing. Just the other night the cupboards were a little bare but I found 2 bags of boil in bag rice I always have a bunch of venison in the freezer and I found a can of mixed veggies. A little beef bullion some soy sauce and I had some pretty tasty venison fried rice

That sort of thing would be called "bachelor food" where I grew up. Maybe not the communion wafers but throwing together random things you have on hand to make a meal out of. One that I used to eat on the way to work was peanut butter (ALWAYS chunky, deal with it) in a tortilla. I tried jelly in there once, it didn't end well. The tortilla held up better than bread while riding my bike though it was a bit more difficult to eat without something to drink along with it.

Not sure if the knowledge of the versatility of bible pages was passed down to us by older generations or if we figured it out by ourselves, but as a teen in the early 2000's, the pages were put to a good use by us.

Brings me back to my altar boy days. The rectory closet had cases of gallon bags full of them delicious wafers and cases of wine. Nothing like heading to the woods after mass with a bag of wafers and a bottle of cheap red wine. I'd be so drunk I would see god. 😁

I never shop to a menu. Growing up in the 70s we had what was there and that was it. Towards the end of the week that meant not a great deal. There was usually bread and some sort of butter. Then anything that would fit in worked. Be it tomato sauce or sugar or even an apple. Now I look in the fridge and what ever is in there becomes dinner. We recently started having a food waste collection and as of yet I haven’t had any to put out. Hehe.

I took the cheap frozen pizzas, added a slice of bologna that I had cut into pieces as a topping, and cooked said bologna pizza as an after school snack. As a proud member of Gen X, I will not judge nor will I submit this young man's name to the Man Council.

We were so poor we were po...we couldnt afford the extra o & r, so one time we had 1lb of hamburger, a can of green beans, some tomatoe sauce and a roll of biscuits, so mom fried the hamburger, put in the sauce and beans, put the biscuits on top and baked it until done OMG it was delicious!! We still call it Green Bean Junk and have it regularly!!

If the wafers did not go through the sacrament, then they are just wafers. It's the same with the wine. It is only when during the eucharistic prayer of the Mass when the wafers and wine turn into the body and blood of Christ. There is nothing sacrilegious about this, if they were not in the Mass. There was an apartment building in my home town nick named the kids apartments. That was not it's real name but every one of them was filled with 16-20 year olds and none of us could afford "real food" as it was known by adults. What we did was find things that may go together and if we did not have anything we would bounce from one to another apartment until we found something that could be combined, then the numbers that had donated to the combination would gather and eat.... sometimes you cooked, sometimes you donated. We all ate. To this day I still make taco-ghetti. P.S. Bible page 666 at a Metallica concert while they played creeping death. Many other times as well but that one stuck in my memory.

"Cheese bowl" = slice of bread in Corelle cereal bowl topped with broccoli and cheese, then nuke for however long it takes to melt the cheese. Top with salsa or pizza sauce. Eat with spoon. (Sometimes the only thing in the house was crackers and cheese, so that could also be cheese bowl)

Make ramen noodles with or without packet who cares won't matter, cook up hormel chilli no beans, drain noodles, throw the chilli on the noodles shredded cheese on the chilli and layer the top with chips. Tortilla or Dorito and enjoy Asian Nacho Sketti.

Disgusting lol. Communion wafers = not a thing I would touch with a 10-foot pole. Nachos = nasty as well. No thank you. I'll take sour cream and onion dip.. or sour cream and brown gravy mix and cheddar/sour cream ruffles tyvm.
