That's amazingly cool that your dog and lovebird get along so well. Letting your lovebird go outside without clipped wings makes me cringe! There are lots of predators to worry about, not to mention cars, other people, etc. The lovebird may not want to "escape" from a loving home, but they can get spooked and take off. I was outside with my fully-flighted bird on my shoulder one night walking from my car to the front door of the house, when something spooked him and he took off like a shot. Last thing I saw of him was him flying across the neighbor's lawn then up and over the roof of their house and he was gone. Thankfully, someone found him five days later and I got him back unharmed, but that was a terrible experience!

I know this video is 2 years old, but this video bring me so much joy and warmed my heart every time I watch it. Such amazing pets those two are and I'm glad that the parents made the girl wrote the whole essay before getting her a pet. It shows that a lot of thoughts were going in before they purchase animals. So sweet. I assume you've not got any predatory wild birds flying around your neighbourhood so it's safe to take Mango burb outside. I lost a dear pet budgerigar (parakeet or budgie) outside and he was just sitting inside his cage in my back yard in Sydney, Australia. I went inside for literally 3 mins to return and find the cage bent open, feathers everywhere. Either a crow or a magpie had eaten my budgie in that short a time. I was devastated.🐨🦘🥺

yes, I was wondering too. scrolling through responses to gauge what seemed like risky actions; from what avian vets and other bird people have expressed. They would never recommend free reign outside like that BUT in this case there is a dog protector/ guardian of sorts, but birds can get spooked easily then there off somewhere lost and/or predated. There is something to be said for living life fully and accepting some risks for that. IDK would not take my conure out without a pack or harness

I once had a grey cheek that I would take outdoors. We were VERY bonded (through our 21 years together) and she stayed with me. Then, a hawk came near and my precious Babs panicked and flew away. Forever. Be careful when you take birds outside!!!!!

I'll tell you something weird. When my mom lived with me she was always low-key talking & mostly I wasn't listening. One day I said, "Wait a minute. Are you telling me my pets know when I'll be home from work?" Turns out - yes. And at that time I didn't have a set time to leave work. If I ran out of things to do, I'd leave early. If I had a deadline to meet, I'd be a few hours late. No matter what, 1/2 an hour before I got home - whatever time that was, my pets would wake up from their naps and go to the windows (kitties) or door (dog) & watch for me to pull up in my car. 🙂🐱🐶❤️❤️❤️

The reason that the bird is attached to the dog is because it is a an Australian Love bird. If they are not kept with a mate, they will choose one in the family. I had one who did the same thing, he thought I was his mate.

It’s like my sister’s dogs (standard poodles) and her guinea pigs. They all absolutely LOVE each other. I think her dogs think that her guinea pigs are perpetually small puppies, who never seem to grow out of small puppyhood, and they are so very gentle with them. Meanwhile her guinea pigs see her dogs as their protectors. Very cute to watch them interact!

Also leaving a pet bird to someone in your will is a gamble because the bird is going to be heartbroken that you are gone and may act out for awhile. They are alot go take care of and if the person doesn't want the bird what then? Alot of birds are abandoned because people eaither compulsively buy them or die and the birds left to a new owner who dosent know how to take care of them. Birds are loud, messy, and destructive, they will act out when bored or stressed.
