I worked in a store that sold parrots when I was a teenager. I purchased a cockatoo and ended up not being able to care for it properly. He needed loads of attention that I didn't provide. In my twenties I made the difficult decision to send him to a rescue. The last I heard from his caretaker he had a girlfriend and partner in crime. I want people to understand large birds are a lot of work and bringing one into your home is a lifelong reasonability.

She could've named her cockatoo Hopper instead of Casper and that still works too! This woman definitely has her hands full with 6 big birds, 4 teens, a full time job as a peds nurse, and two cats! Most parrot owners don't develop this level of bond, which is unfortunate. There are a myriad of factors. But, when the bird feels that you are indeed their family, a lot of them can be this close and trusting and seek out prolonged contact. I wish it were more common, because I know that there are statistically more birds that would want this kind of relationship.

We adopted a 36 year old sulphar crested a little over a year ago. She bonded with my partner instantly! This is amazing because she was left outside in a small small cage for 36 years. She should be nasty and crazy but she’s only that way towards me 🤣 My partner is her partner and I’m considered a threat. The love my other half has for this bird is beautiful ❤️

I’m in Australia and I have these Cockatoos visit me, as well as Little-Corellas, Rainbow Lorikeets, Magpies and the regular family of dawn and dusk Kookaburras. Your beautiful birds are so happy and it’s wonderful to observe your bond with each of them. I hope that one day you and your family could visit Australia. To see big flocks of wild Sulphur Crested Cockatoos flying overhead, and to HEAR them, is an absolutely beautiful experience. Thanks for sharing your birds in this video, much appreciated. This is one of the nicest videos I've ever seen. I love birds and have had about 5 parakeets who have so much sweetness, love, and smarts wrapped up in their cute little beings. One parakeet we found outside a group of attached houses in Queens, one of the 5 boros in NYC.....in January in the frigid cold. My mother and I were taking a walk on New Year's Day....trying to take a walk to turn over a new leaf and start exercising when we saw him. We tried to get him into a corner and away from the street and saw he was getting lower and closer to the ground, the more tired the little thing got and eventually had to go in people's yard and got him on the ground and was able to catch him in my hat. We caught a taxi to get him home and warm as fast as we could. We had a cage and alot of necessities from our last parakeet who died about a month or two before and everything was clean so we got him in there and put a heating pad underneath and a little blanket between it and the cage and covered him 3/4 of the way. We kept him quiet so as not to stress him anymore but would speak gently to him every once n awhile and take a look to see how he was doing. For sure we figured he wouldn't live because of the extreme stress and cold temperature he had just been through. We didn't know how long he had spent outside....fortunately we got him right before it was getting dark. When we covered him for the night he was still on the floor of the cage and we had sprinkled some seed and bread crumbs and we said a prayer but pretty much figured he'd be dead when we woke up in the morning. To our surprise, he was alive in the morning and sitting on the lowest perch and grooming himself !!!!! A good sign and as the day went on he started to show other hopeful signs...especially eating. We kept waiting and watching and as more time went by and he was still alive our hopes that he would live kept growing. Well, hours became days and by the time it became a week and our little Skipper never got sick. Weeks became months.....he never showed any signs of illness. What a little miracle!! 😍 Little Skipper lived for 12 years. Who could have imagined. He lived longer than any of our other parakeets. And when he did die, it was a Christmas morning, almost like the anniversary of when we originally found him 12 years ago on that New Year's Day. 12 years of ❤️. Who knows how old he really was??? Shortly after that, one of the peach faced love birds owned by the office manager of the surgical practice where I was a nurse, had laid eggs. She would sell the babies for profit. 3 weeks after that event, she asked me if I would take one of the babies that the mother wasn't feeding and who she kept throwing out of the nest. Of course I said yes. When the day came when she brought the 3 week old baby into the hospital.....it was amazing.....she had no feathers and her skin was just a soft gray. She needed to be fed every 2 hrs.....which meant I had to sneak her into the medical center. We kept her in the office kitchen and the chief surgeon basically had to agree because it was the office manager who raised the birds and whatever she said went, so I didn't have to worry about permission. So Squeaky, which she was named because when she started to speak, she sounded like a squeaky toy ! It was winter, so every morning I had to pack her up and her food, etc in a gym bag so security wouldn't get suspicious. That went on for months and months. She imprinted to me and we were so close. Loved eachother ❤️ 💗 so much. They are very beautiful with their peach colored faces, their sky blue 💙 tails and soft green chests. She was so tamed since she was hand-fed. If I would take a nap on days off, she would just come and get as close as she could on my shoulder and under my jaw bone and under my hair and we'd both take a nap. She'd walk around the apartment on my shoulders or sitting on top of my head, and often just climb down my shirt and make herself warm and comfortable. She was like my baby. She'd come with us when we'd go to the beach for a weekend or weeks....she didn't mind traveling and I put her cage in the passenger seat so she could see me and 1 or 2 of our 4 dogs would be in the back..... my husband would drive the other car with our 2 other dogs, and my mother would take her 2 finches in their cages in her car. My squeaky lived till she was 13....my life wasn't the same for a very long time after she died. I have her ashes in a pretty little tin and she'll be with me whenever and however. So when I see birds 🐦 in a pet shop or in PetCo, it just makes me miss not having one more. But, I've been involved with all breed dog rescue and have 2 rescues now...1 is an insulin diabetic and the other has Chron's disease. So, it wouldn't be fair to a small parrot and it wouldn't be fair to my 2 little ♥️ fur babies. They demand all my love, attention and finances right now.
