When I was married, my now ex-husband and I got up to nine cats (we had no kids and a 2,000+ square foot house, so there was plenty of room for everyone, and of course there’s *always* plenty of love to go around!) because I had gotten into fostering feral moms and their kittens for a while. Most of the kitties I fostered went to wonderful “furever” homes other than ours, but anyone who was less likely to be adopted due to disabilities or personality issues (typically just those that needed a lot more time - similar to Lola - before they would be considered adoptable by most other people, and obviously when you dedicate that kind of time to a cat or kitten, you develop a very strong and special bond with them, so they often tell you they are already home! 🥰🥰🥰) ended up staying with us … (that is, assuming they wanted to stay with us, of course). One of the best behaved cats I’ve ever had was a feral mom who took a solid six months before she began to trust me at all, but once she started to do so, she was all in … and she then decided she was utterly *mine*. She was with me for 21 years before she crossed the Rainbow Bridge in August 2022; I miss her sassy, bossy, sweet, snuggles to this day, and I know I always will. Unfortunately, I’ve become too disabled to be able to take care of more than 1-2 cats, so I’m down to one - but we happily spoil each other rotten!

I have 2 foster fail tuxedos, and my female is still petrified and will barely let us pet her. She was an outdoor semi-feral that had babies. We began to foster her when they weaned the babies, and I just couldn't send her back to the outdoor elements. It has now been 3 years and we get a pet in every so often when treats are involved. We just let her be and know that she is warm, safe, and always has a full belly.
