I use my R41 when I have a few weeks growth. It can get most of it one pass. A second pass cleans it right up.

i used my merkur c39 and feather blades. it's difficult to cut yourself with c39 but with feather blades is reaaaaaallyyyyyyy easy. i don't use them anymore because they are ninja sharp. but i love c39. will never change that hammer for anything else

I know a lot of folks enjoy the R41, thought I would also but after using it for awhile I got tired of having to be so "attentive" using it. I really just want an efficient razor that can be put on cruise control and do the shave without the drama. I found many that fit the bill so I gifted the R41. Great video and shave Geo, thanks.

I totally agree, it's a great razor for heavy growth, but not a comfortable shave. I want to enjoy my shaves not having to concentrate like I'm performing surgery. I don't use mine often but still keep it in the collection.

As an experiment and following Geo's lead, I once shaved using my R41 with a new Feather blade and no safety bar, just the top cap to keep the blade steady. Scary at first, but I soon realized there was almost no difference between using or not using the safety bar. I'm not recommending it, gentlemen, but it CAN be done.

Absolutely, did it for the first time about 3 weeks ago as well, and a second time after that. Ridding the cap, and super smooth she goes. One reason to go with the 3 piece, safety bar is optional. Reason 1 for me was so I could just buy the R89 head and switch as I please.

Bought a 41 Grande from Geo a couple of years ago, it’s remarkable how close the shave was. My face could never make it the entire week using this beast, by Wednesday I was done.

Me too. I prefer the thicker handle and the knob at the end. The Twist has a better balance in my hand, the Grande didn’t work as well for me either. I’m a Mühle Twist fan. Twist R89 & Twist R41.

I recently took the step when swapping in a fresh Feather (my clear preference is Dovo, but I'll use up the Feathers), to shave without the safety bar. Now that was even one step closer to what I imagine shaving with a straight razor is like. Has to be the closest shaves I've ever gotten. However, for the regular early morning shave I prefer to run the R89. Like you've said in the past, it's a good daily shaver.

I've had a full beard since March 24 but the R41 was my first proper razor and I used it for 2 years. Still use it for neck and cheek line ups. But rightly mentioned it is very aggressive and will punish you if not careful.

You got a couple of weepers there Geo in the first pass. I rarely see weepers in your videos. Is this R41 the old model from before 2012 ? That model was a good deal more aggressive than the newer R41, which I believe Mühle released in 2012/2013. I owned it and it was scary. Cheers Claus

Hey Geo, out of the muhle r89 and 41 my favourite of all is the Dovo primo 1 it's just heaven to shave with, long week old stubble even 2 weeks not a problem. The Dovo german blades are awesome smooth and sharp with no cuts. Could I sell my muhles or would they be wanted 2nd hand? Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪

I like the Dovo Primo too. I own both versions of it. Only the handle is different. It’s not my favourite razor in my DE razor collection, but it sure is a good effective razor.

Great shave again. Thanks. I don’t get the thing with the spoon. I swirl my brush several times in the T.O.B. Bowl and have enough lather for my shave. Regarding „As close as a straight razor”. What do you think about the iKon Tech razor? I also own this beast and its basically just blade….

He reviewed it in his 2017 video "iKon TECH Razor Beats Mühle R41-Shave & Review with Captain's Choice" and said "it's more aggressive than the R41". I rarely use the R41 anymore and prefer single edge safety razors for their efficiency and comfort, but always complete a shave with the iKon Tech for troublesome spots. The Shield AC brass single edge razor (with Schick P-30 blades) is one of them and is worth a look. There have been a variety of reviews.

Yes, it is. Using R41 you feel the blade all the time. Every imperfection on your face is practically not protected so it's very easy to cut yourself. Against the grain pass is the most difficult for me under my nose. With Piccolo OC I don't have to be as focused as with Mühle R41.
