Geoff is portraying four of the dwarves from The Hobbit: Kili, Bofur, Fili, and Thorin. It adds to the emotional impact of the song when we remember that three of the four characters will not survive the coming battle. This one of my favorites of Geoff's solo videos. He is such a skilled arranger and actor and quite good at video editing too. It's all Geoff...his video descriptions list what he and any others contributed to each project. It's often pretty much Geoff and his wife, Kathy.

It's all Geoff! He is my all-time favorite vocalist because he CAN do all the parts...he arranged this as well as singing all the parts. Kudos to whoever helped with the makeup/hair and costumes!

Geoff is also playing the piano and all the other instrumentation and sounds through programming. Try his arrangement of 16 Tons. It's a classic country song in the US. Put the closed captions on, he sometimes throws in a little humor. Also, his wife suffers from profound hearing loss, helped by hearing aids. He is very sensitive to the hearing impaired, so his captions are also very descriptive at times. And Voiceplay's next one will knock your socks off!

But seriously- it's all him, with good makeup and video editing. He always provides his own backing vocals, because he's so much more than just a bass voice. But I do love his lower tones; he's a serenade from a grizzly bear in the best possible way!

A word that seems to come to a lot of people who listen to this version of the song, and which I think is very appropriate, is "somber". Somehow Geoff finds an emotional tone with the song that I've never heard before, and it makes the song even more impactful. For me, this is the best video Geoff has made on his solo channel. Everything seems to have come together in perfect harmony that just strikes a huge chord with me, and I love it!

Generally speaking with Geoff and Voiceplays' works you don't have to worry about copyright from them because they own all their own music and licensing. They produce their own stuff and they sometimes peek into reactions of channels like yours, so don't worry so much about copyright with them!!!

It's funny, I never heard Ed Sheeran's version, and I didn't particularly like the Hobbit movies... but, 'The Hobbit' is my favorite book, and the lyrics vividly capture the troubles of the Dwarves of the Lonely Mountain... combine that with Geoff's angelic highs and Dwarvish low rumbles and... you know what? I admit it: I cry every time I hear this version of this song. Geoff absolutely nailed it.
