Hi Peter, thank you for another great reaction to Geoff. I love to see your expressions as you enjoy Geoff's singing. Please keep Geoff & his family in your prayers as they have come down with Covid & stuck at home. It was Geoff's wife Kathy who came up with the idea of making each of the numbers on each Geoff a secret code. Kathy was his only film crew. She is the one who closed the cell door on him. I can just see her laughing over that one.

Geoff is totally a baritone. Those crazy lows are just pure coincidence. 😂Geoff fans often joke that the only thing he cant do is admit that he's a bass. There were lots of cheers during your interview with him when you got him to concede that he might actually be a bass. Great reaction as always! ✌️❤️🎶
@Broomrider1492 Жыл бұрын
In the BTS he said Universal Studios made him learn the Harmonica aka Harp when he played Elwood Blues in the Blues Brothers Review at the park. He had to bush up his skills for this song. He did film in a closed prison in Vero Beach FL. They had a cell block that they hadn't converted yet. Folks at the prison were so surprised that it was just Geoff and Kathy as the only film crew.

I love watching people react to Geoff's crazy low notes, but it's so much different with Peter because it's so obvious that He's been there. He's done what has to be done to hit extremely low notes and is fully immersed in the world of low low basses in singing. So he knows just how much of a treat it is to be able to hear and enjoy someone with this low of a voice. It adds a new layer of appreciation, not just for the reaction, but for the things Geoff can do as a whole too.

Howdy Peter. Excellent analysis - fun too! Love the pit vipers on low notes. I'm going to exploit my 'morning voice'! In church choir I sang any of 3 parts, as needed: Soprano, Alto, Tenor. But was not accepted into High School chorus... go figure. My grandfather sang Bass in operas, my mother sang Alto in church choirs, my grandmother sang Soprano in operas. Every Saturday growing up we heard classical radio at granny and poppy's house. In the 1980's, I had my own pop/jazz band, and we recorded my original tunes. But, sadly, many of my octaves vanished when I had thyroid surgery. I'm no longer hoarse - thank God - and am still trying to 'carry a tune'... Very inspiring analysis video. I love hearing bass vocalists! Love your speaking voice, too! I subbed here months ago! tfs🙂

14:28 Geoff has actually stated on his Q&A video that he has a range from Ab1/A1 up to A5, so a 4 usable octave range!!!! He has a total of 5 octaves for an occasional use.

i just love your appreciation of Geoff. I share it. Yes he plays the harmonica and all this other music additions are done on his keyboard using plugins. The shooting on this was all Geoff and Kathy. Just the two of them were there for this. And of course he adds a few more Geoffs in the background for good measure. I'm waiting for the day when he appears as a whole choir. LOL It could happen. You never know. :)

Well, Peter, if you're in Phoenix, be sure to check out the Musical Instrument Museum! Extensive, not Euro-centric (yay!), totally cool. When I visited (gotta be 10 years ago now), we got headphones that were activated when you approached certain displays. You could listen to the recording of the instrument without disturbing anyone else. No cacophony, no matter how many people were there. Didgeridoo, Papua New Guinea nose flute, a portable crank organ carried and played in a religious procession, a drum kit that my son-in-law would die for, sooooo many great things to see and hear!!!!

Geoff makes it sound so effortless, it's easy to forget just HOW LOW he really can get. I read somewhere that Geoff hit a D1 in chest once, probably not in a VP song though or we'd definitely know about it from the Bass Note Patrol, haha! I absolutely don't doubt he could get that low on an exceptional morning. I hope you like your new place and had lots of fun in Europe. Cheers!
@Stan_S_Stanman Жыл бұрын
I think E1 is probably the lowest he can hit in chest voice atm, and only if he slides down into the note and cutting off. F#1 is his lowest chest note that he can actually sustain and hit somewhat consistently. F1 will be usable in recordings for him a couple years from now, I bet.
@Guest.7289_22 ай бұрын
Tbh I wouldn't even be surprised if Geoff can go down to D#1 or even D1 chest as of right now

And speaking of bass notes, one of the more interesting interpretations I have heard was Gilbert and Sullivan's rarely-performed Trial By Jury. When the plaintiff, Angelina, enters the courtroom, the bailiff sings her name, starting in tenor voice, in a cascade of descending notes (sorry, I don't know the correct technical term) -- and a second guy seamlessly picks up the notes and keeps going down to the basement of bass notes. An-ge-li-i-i-i-i-i-i-[switch]-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-nah.

@Stan_S_Stanman Жыл бұрын
The relation between speaking voice and singing voice is kinda funny sometimes. Singers like Bobby Bass or Avi Kaplan come to mind. You wouldn't guess they can sing as low as they can if you just go off of their speaking voice.
@MultiKamil97 Жыл бұрын
@@Stan_S_Stanman Yeah, they have very bright, warm voices. One of those that had a voice very similar to their speaking voice is Kurt Moll. Even his speaking voice was very booming and powerful when he was speaking. Theo Adam, also an opera singer on the other hand had a very lyric baritone-like speaking voice but could go down to a full C2 for example.

No. That is not what a bass-baritone is. A bass-baritone is a baritone can "hit" certain low notes, but they don't have the good quality that Geoff has here, and they certainly can't come close to hitting an F#1. They usually stop at around D2-C2.
