Oh hey, welcome to the rabbithole that is Geoff Castellucci! Funny you should mention Tim Foust- he and Geoff know one another, and have traded techniques. And while Tim sings bass for Home Free, Geoff ('Jeff') is the bass vocalist for the a cappella group, VoicePlay- a group who is easily as talented as Home Free and Pentatonix. This is such a great song- Geoff knocked it out of the park when he recorded this one. This was one of his earlier solo videos, which he only started doing during the Covid lockdowns; he arranged the piece, recorded it, and shot the video with his wife, Kathy, and some tools he borrowed from his dad's shed. And for what it's worth, you never need to worry about blurring his videos, or those of VoicePlay (should you decide to take a look at them, something I highly, highly recommend). He and VoicePlay are both independent artists, unaffiliated with any labels, and are supportive of reactors. Another song of Geoff's I think you'd enjoy is his cover of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine'. It is absolutely jawdropping, and another video where he multitracks his voice (the man has a 5 octave range!) and clones himself in video to create incredible harmonies and damn, the emotion he puts in. He always gets the heart of the music he covers.

Words cannot express how delighted I am to find that you've discovered Geoff Castellucci! Liked, subscribed and looking forward to more. Some other classics Geoff tunes are Ghost Riders In The Sky, Shenandoah, and Big Bad John. He also just released his cover of 'The Sound Of Silence.' Please do yourself and your viewers a favor and consider checking out his a capella group, VoicePlay--their recent cover of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters or the slightly older Hoist the Colours would be a great place to start, or Oogie Boogie's Song if you want a really in-your-face demonstration of Geoff's spectacular vocal range, but you really can't go wrong with any of their works. Also: Geoff and VoicePlay will issue copyright claims on reactions, but not strikes or takedowns; they like and support KZbin reactors.

There is absolutely nothing “simple” about this. Geoff arranged it, did multiple recordings for each voice, had to seamlessly integrate them so they were all in sync, not to mention his incredible voice and range. I’m sure it must have taken a long time to do this.

So much fun to watch a new reactor discover Geoff. The basses in the big three acapella groups all have about the same range, but Geoff's voice is just special. He has such a deep smooth velvety tone. This cover was the gateway to me for Geoff and then to Voiceplay. Check out his cover of Shenandoah, it is sweet and beautiful, his House of the Rising Sun, he's just showing off in that one. Subscribed in anticipation of more Geoff and Voiceplay!

It's scary, because Ernie had a fairly deep voice (he was a low baritone)... then Geoff comes along and drops it by 3 semitones (from the key of B for the original, to Geoff transposing it to the key of G# and also singing it an octave plus 3 semitones lower than the original).

Welcome to Geoff (pron. "Jeff") Castellucci's rabbit hole... And, hopefully, to Voiceplay's one. 🙂 You named Tim Foust... Tim and Geoff are friends, Home Free and Voiceplay were on the "SingOff" show together and are friends since. Personally, I love both groups. 🙂 Voiceplay is nicknamed "the Theater kids of a cappella", you'd like their theatrical performances. And they are as talented as Home Free... Just a tad different. 🙂 A few suggestion to explore Geoff's catalogue: the song I discovered him is "Far over the Misty Mountains cold", from "the Hobbit". He plays all 4 characters, although with different costumes and makeups. Very good introduction to both his voice and arrangement skills. 🙂 He also has a number of "classic" songs where he shows his range. Someone has already mentioned "Ain't no sunshine"... I'd add "Blackbird" (yes, the Beatles' song), "High and dry", "House of the Rising Sun" (another great classic), "Shenandoah", and for the fans of Game of Thrones, "Rains of Castamere". But I love pretty much everything he did. 🙂 As for Voiceplay, many tend to suggest "Boogie Boogie song" as a "first watch". I'm not sure it's the best idea... Too much "characterisation" in the voices. It's mind-blowing, though. But I'd suggest other songs... "My Mother told me", for example. Or "Hoist the colours", from Pirates of the Caribbean III. Or "I can't make you love me", for a more melodic and heart-breaking song. Or "The Dragonborn comes - Skyrim", from (obviously" the video game Skyrim. But you just can't go wrong with them. They have a LOT of Disney stuff, and their "medleys" are hilarious and incredibly good. 🙂 And "We don't talk about Bruno", from "Encanto", is so good that after they released it, Disney itself contacted Tham and hired them to perform it live at a private event 😁. Enjoy your journey through their rabbit holes. I just subscribed, so that I won't miss your next reactions to any of them. 🙂 See you next time! PS: as others told you already, neither Geoff nor Voiceplay will block your videos, so you don't have to blur them 🙂. Also, always let the video run until the Patreons list. Sometimes there are little Easter eggs there, or, like in "Running up that hill", the "true" ending of the video .

Wow!!! This was so good. The way they structured the song with the harmony singers is what I was impressed by. Don't get me wrong, the lead singer was fantastic too. I really enjoyed this cover version. I am going to have to watch the band's video since you had to blur it in order to post your reaction. I noticed they were using something as "instruments'" but obviously I couldn't see what they were using. Thanks for posting this Jamel. I just watched Geoff's video. Because Jamel had to blur the video I didn't realize all four guys were Geoff. I liked the use of the mining tools as instruments. If you haven't watched Geoff's video I recommend that you do. Also, I noticed he does a cover of Big Bad John by Jimmy Dean. Jamel, if you read this that would make another good comparison video. I'm going to wait and see if Jamel does react to both versions before I watch Geoff's cover.

Just wanted to let you know that neither Geoff, nor his band VoicePlay, will give you any copyright issues. Yes, they will claim their videos, but they never block.
