Its a simple answer... 5G is faster but the signal strength is depleted far more easily with walls trees and distance... Some wifi modems have a selection of local speeds of 2.4ghz or 5ghz... even in a house the lower speed works better as the signal is stronger..

It's a thing now that a lot of long distance walkers in USA,the ones who do those hundreds of miles long trails are now using walkie talkie radios. The reason they give is that in some of those wild places there is no signal. Now,the ones I heard on the radio were VERY SENSIBLE not to SAY the real reason but reading between the lines I think the real reason is they want to free themselves from surveillance. And not for sinister or criminal reasons. The fact is,as I understand it,no matter how remote you are you can use GPS from space to identify your location,and that was how it was "sold" to us. No one ever need to be lost again. The emergency services can find you even in the middle of the Gobi desert. So these walkers want to go back to that earlier time,in our lifetimes when you relied on your own courage,skill and wits. And not have Googlespy following your every movement.

Hello Geoff, Someone elsa may have already said this, but I don't have time to go look. I'm not an RF engineer but I've more than a passing interest and bit of knowledge on the subject. If you want to cram more data accross the airwaves, generally speaking, you're going to use a higher carrier frequency. Those higher frequencies do not have as much "punch" though. They're more readily attenuated by environmental factors, they don't carry as far. Hence the need for base stations that are much closer together. Also, radio waves are generally polarised, they travel vertically and or horizontally (there's more to it than that) and when you're trying to eek out the best perfornance, the orientation of the phone itself becomes more critical. More data means faster processors, more power, less battery life. Gold is an excellent conductor. It's factor in greater RF efficiency I'm not sure about. Someone else can speak to that. The radio spectrum is getting more and more crowded, it's efficient use is therefor of considerable importance.

That signal issue you both experienced with your phone call at the 16:12 mark in the video, were it went all weird sounding, seems to me exactly like the signal being attenuated - a momentary weaking of the signal strength leading to a reduction in the signal quality, which reduces data throughput, means dropped data packs and transmission errors. The odd noise effects are also reminiscient of signal distortion and reflections, leading to the data packets arriving out of sequence. Likely this is caused by something interrupting the signal between the mast and your device. Birds, plane, large vehicles, trees blowing the wind etc. And also atmospheric phenomenon.
@richardbutler44887 ай бұрын

Because the service area for each 5G phone cell mast is so much smaller they need many more to give the same coverage, using AI and servers it is so much easier to locate people of interest. Also, it is easier for them to accommodate more users at the higher frequencies.

Listening to your conversation on the diffrences in 3G and 5G - here's the TL:DR of it. 3G has good coverage and range and lower data rates - 5G is the oppostite - and the reason is the frequency of the carrier wave used. Higher band frequencies of 5G (ie: 16 - 24GHz ) are more suceptible to interference by things like trees than 3G frequencies were. And, the shear increase in the number of devices connecting to the network means more people sharing the bandwidth.

The new mega data centres popping up everywhere (and using all the grid energy) are there to process all our metadata, however that metadata is primarily 24hour phone surveillance using every sensor in the device. Sound, image, location and motion every minute of the day is processed, screened and stored forever.

21:10 - 12 Mini user here, I have no desire at all to buy anything newer for quite some time, I’ve even replaced the battery myself and had it authenticated by Apple so that’s another 3-4 years of optimum performance again for £50, better than paying £1100 every 2 years for a slightly better camera and a slightly better screen 🤣

Im in Taiwan and the signal is amazing here... 4g even works on the underground trains. I pay 300NTD a month, about £7.50 for unlimited data. I use Samsung A21s phone.

This was very, very amusing this morning listening to Naga Munchetty trying to communictae with a multitude of journalists across the country following the party battle buses and every single person she was trying to communicate with was having terrible issues with their connections. Yoy couldn't make it up! The part of the show with heavy issues was around 12.10pm onwards where there was silence on many ocassions and she thought she was being pranked it was so bad.

I think this is a problem in England. I live in Norway, and I have no problems use my tlf. even in my summerhouse in the middle of nowhere 800m over sealevel with only sunpanels, batteries and a little petrol generator. I have 5g everywhere here. Only 4g in the summerhouse, but it works all the time. (PS: I love your beautiul Volvo!!) 🙂

I have kept my old android and that still has the options for 2G !! That gives me a signal anywhere for voice and SMS, Ok no internet services but then there is public Wi-Fi for that :-)

I used to love listening to spotify on my phone while travelling, the signal used to be fine and slowly it has got worse and worse. I upgraded (ha ha) to a 5G phone hoping this would remedy the situation, it hasn't!

Had this convo recently. It’s been 40 plus years of mobile phones. Why can’t I drive between Glasgow and Edinburgh without dropping a call along the M8. I’ve got 5G turned off and use a cradle with a view straight up and out the windscreen. Still doesn’t work.

Also what isn’t being talked about is that for years they have been installing smart meters in houses that run off of 2G, so when they shut 2G down none of the smart meters will link up [if they ever worked in the 1st place that is] [because a lot of them don’t through lack of signal]

The place I used to live up until last year doesn't have any 5g. It barely even has 4g and some areas have no signal at all.
