Spoke to a lady in my village today shes had a new electric mocca (fairly sure thats the model she said) for 3 days put it on charge for a hospital trip into the next county. After 2 hours, it the fused the house electrics and has had to go back to the dealer, she says shes getting a diesel instead. 🤣🤣🤣

isn't it criminal that the government is forcing those who need mobility to accept a highly dangerous vehicle for that transport? How in the name of hell you are supposed to spot the fire, get out of bed as a disabled person and make it out of the house and away from the course in under 1 1/2 minutes is beyond me!

I use a motability vehicle and we are not forced to have an EV at all! I have only just given up a Peugeot 3008 diesel for a Renault Austral hybrid. The reason I chose my Renault was it actually does even more mpg than the pub did, over 60 mpg everywhere. We can choose any car than manufacture makes that is on the scheme but, nd this is recent, the advance payment for the lease we pay is far far lower on EV cars than any other car. But, we can if we order an EV get a free home charge point installed. So, we ain’t forced into EV cars but until one can do the trip mine did last weekend I won’t be getting one. My car did a round trip of over 500 miles in a day and still has enough petrol for another 180 miles. Total cost just over £50. Show me an EV that can do exactly the same and I might consider one.

Geoff - lookup the report from Beyond Radio about the electric bin wagon that caught fire in Lancaster UK. Two fire engines, 4 hours and then the vehicle had to be towed through the town centre with a Police escort, two fire engines in tow and the whole one way system shut down whilst it was moved. And apparently not the first electric bin wagon to have issues for our 'green' council.....

Moved to Spain 6 years ago and haven’t looked back-except maybe to admire the view! I found a quiet little village on the south coast. Now, I’m not saying Spain is perfect (we all know the same agendas are at play), but at least here, you’re not stuck on an island, and there’s plenty of uninhabited land inland. So if I ever need to shelter the family, I’ve got options-and maybe a few goats for company. Plus, it’s a lot easier to watch the world fall apart when you’ve got blue skies, sunshine, and a cold drink in hand!

The problem is that the fires cannot be controlled and are much more serious to deal with , lithium batteries are unstable and putting a couple of thousand of them in a car is not a good idea ( I’m an electronic engineer, industrial electrician and lifelong radio control modeller ) , I can tell you that without a shadow of a doubt in my mind , 15 years or whatever ago when models started using these batteries it was well known how fragile lithium batteries are as they would catch fire quite often . Look up the guy in the lift who got cooked by his battery pack :-/ . I wouldn’t get in one if you paid me :-)

I'm a small boat marine engineer and have worked on hire boats on canals and rivers for almost 50 years. The first boats I ever worked on had a sunroof and it was possible to sit on the open roof, steer with one's left foot while operating the accelerator/gear lever with the right foot. I was told of an incident on the Norfolk broards during the 70s where someone was driving in such a manner at high tide and was swept off the boat by a bridge, leaving the boat to continue on its way with nobody on board. 😂

Bet that would have been Potter Heigham old bridge. So low and narrow that you actually need to use a bridge pilot to negotiate it in a hire boat. Although the tidal range at Potter is about 18" at the highest spring tides. Well it is about 26 miles up the river from the sea, and the river is pretty much at sea level. The river runs through raised banks, since the fields either side are actually below sea level.
@williamgeorgefraser

@@AlanEvans789 It was actually at St Olaves. The boat didn't have a drop down roof so wasn't allowed through Potter Heigham or Wroxham even at low tide. I'm moving to Thailand. Right next to the Bridge on the River Kwai. Bought the house twenty years ago and am about to get another (for in case my adult kids ever feel the need to follow me). The insanity of Bangkok is only two hours away and costs £2.10p to get there by train. The Sodom and Gomorrah which is Pattaya is four hours way and costs around £6 to get to, in a first class charabanc berth (if that's your fetish). But the Kwai is big enough to make it easy to get a MacDonald's and a KFC or Pizza Hut yet small enough to just enjoy the river, the mountains, the lakes, the temples, the elephant bathing rituals (in the river, of course) and the local ambience. I will forever love the England which bred and honed me into who I am. But that's just a memory and the reality is now too far gone ever to return.

@@thestorytelleruk Not necessarily. I have had diesel in some jerry cans for over four years and it's fine, in fact I am using some of it now. In a tank it may be a lot different. Geoff I didn't fancy fixing my headlining in my saloon jag, so instead I used twist pins. Had about 200 of them, took me two hours to put them all in, and a very sore thumb afterwards. Would like to see another headliner replacement video. Also maybe a rust coating vid? Wax oil or lanoline, just need a good sunny day to do it. So maybe do it in Spain?

I do fully agree with the ev issues but also should be worth mentioning the number of BMW non electric cars that go on fire whether due to faulty egr coolers leaking coolant slowly into the intake and mixing with carbon deposits or as in my case with a 2017 G31 5 series the starter motor shorting and causing the car to go on fire whilst I was on the motorway and ending up as a complete write off and bmw wanting nothing to do with it.

More than three fires you have NEVER mentioned! A vehicle fire along the A14 westbound near Milton caused long delays. The incident took place at around 7.50am on Thursday morning (July 18). Car fire cause tailbacks on M54. July 18th 2024 Two Worcester Station crews from the Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) were called to the fire at 6.41pm, 16th July, which occurred on the M5 Northbound between junctions 6 and 7. A spokesperson for HWFRS said: "A small fire in the engine compartment of a vehicle on the hard shoulder had been extinguished before the fire service arrived. A convertible car burst into flames on the A456. 20th March 2024 Van fire spreads to other vehicles and blocks M6. 20th November 2023. Burnt out! Ford Transit diesel burst into flames on M6 near Wigan. 13th August 2023. Burnt out! Commercial van caught fire at Sandbach Services on M6 12th August 2023. Burnt out.! Vehicle fire closes M6 near Knutsford. 19th June 2023. Burnt out! VW Golf burst into flames on M6 near Hanley. Burnt out! 5th Oct 2023. Cause of fires undetermined. NOT an EV in sight. For the sake of drivers on the M6, all ICE vehicles should be banned from using it. Car fire spreads to house in Dittisham. Burning fuel runs down street! 20June 2023. A CAR set on fire on a drive with flames spreading to a house in Stourport-On-Severn. Not known why car set alight! 25th May 2019 Two cars, a house and its garage struck by fire at Dove Lea Gardens, River, Dover. May 2017. Two cars burnt out and part of house damaged. (Clearly ICE vehicles) Still working the old “EVs are death traps” clickbait angle eh?

The problem is that the fires cannot be controlled and are much more serious to deal with , lithium batteries are unstable and putting a couple of thousand of them in a car is not a good idea ( I’m an electronic engineer, industrial electrician and lifelong radio control modeller ) , I can tell you that without a shadow of a doubt in my mind , 15 years or whatever ago when models started using these batteries it was well known how fragile lithium batteries are as they would catch fire quite often . Look up the guy in the lift who got cooked by his battery pack :-/ . I wouldn’t get in one if you paid me :-)

@@richnorris1061 Do you really believe that BEV batteries today are the same as the batteries you put in your little models 15 years ago? I think technology has moved on a wee bit. I have used rechargeable lithium batteries for years and never once has one caught fire! I also don’t know anyone else who has had one catch fire. Fact; EVs are over 20 times less likely to catch fire than an ICE vehicle. You don’t have to buy one, you can just keep believing the deliberate misinformation from this clickbait grifter and his fellow cronies.

I owned a Fiat 5oo back in the late 60's which had a sun roof and, believe it or not, a hand throttle on the dash. I was told that the Italians, who else, would open the roof and set the throttle and drive the car with their foot whilst enjoying the wind in their hair. Of cause I had to verify this and found that you could in fact drive a Fiat in such a manner on English and Welsh road quite happily with little chance of mishap. The problem was the aghast motorists coming towards you and almost running of the road with surprise. If you where one of those people please accept my belated apologies for the near fatal surprise I subjected you to.

I’ve spent many years working in India. The amazing thing is that given the awful state of the electrics is that the place isn’t permanently ablaze. I really don’t think that it’s particularly to do with EVs. It’s just what happens in India. As I said I’ve spent a very long time in India (I love the country) and can never recall seeing any kind of a fire truck apart from airports.

Geoff you can still get diesel petrol vehicles on the Motability scheme but some dealers might try and get the person leasing the vehicle to get an EV or Hybrid by claiming they cannot get the ICE vehicle they want but have an EV that has being sat there waiting to be registered that they want to get rid of and it won't cost them a penny as the vehicle has no deposit compared to the ICE vehicle they would be paying £500 to £700 deposit for.
