7:40 Geoff's face when he realizes that that this might take 12 hours, he looks almost broken. IMO, the "problem" with this challenge is that "Overground" seems to be a catch-all term for TfL services that consists of repurposed National rail lines. Unlike the DLR or Underground, expanding the Overground could be as simple as a penstroke by taking over another line with no need for the construction of new infrastructure, for example, the Thameslink London core. [I am aware it is likely WAY more complicated than that in reality]. Anyway, good effort Geoff. Another excellent video

There was talk of taking over ALL suburban services within the Greater London area, but they decided that would complicate things with the main line operators. It seems quite a good idea, like creating a proper S-Bahn network

But at least Kensington (Olympia) is marked as a District Line Tube station (albeit with limited service). Battersea Park isn't marked as a London Overground station even on the map of London's Rail & Tube Services.( www.projectmapping.co.uk/Reviews/Resources/london-rail-and-tube-servig.pdf )

Yes, it's just a convenience reversal point, if things get snarled up getting into Clapham Junction, although their are those early morning scheduled journeys. I've been into Battersea Park on an unscheduled Overground train at least 3 times now, and observed a 4th one going there at Denmark Hill, so it's quite common. Also Battesea Park has the advantage of the bay platform being right next door to the southbound through line out of Victoria, so anybody arriving at Battersea Park wanting Claoham Junction isn't stranded there for long!!

@@pokemonsuper9 One trick for that would be to do all the stuff that passes through Earls Court during the time that Olympia trains *should* be running. Then, the first time you see something going to Olympia, grab it, but have alternative plans ready. All the apps that are available should help too, taking some of the guesswork out of it. Annoying thing is though, you could be doing *really* well, then discover that the Olympia branch is closed all day. Tricky stuff. I'd love to try it but my health wouldn't let me run, or walk, between stations.

As someone who lives out of London and visits, I rarely use the ginger lines and it doesn’t resonate in my head where the places are. So much has changed over the years; (I now live in North Yorkshire and only make occasional visits to London’s railways). Before we moved away from South Lincolnshire In 2003, I payed more attention to the Tube and rode on as many old trains as I could before they were consigned to the scrapyard. One particularly route I found was the “East London Line”...sorry, delete “ly”...from Whitechapel, or Shoreditch, to New Cross/New cross gate. The stock in use was the same as the Metropolitan which was my favourite and I made countless journeys to Uxbridge, and even Chesham! Last summer I stayed with my friends in Grantham and we travelled down to London so I could sample some of the new trains currently in service...Oh, how Stratford has changed!!

For some strange reason Geoff, I put some serious thought into remaing projects for you. The most common suggestions seem to be tram/metro systems but there's at least one excellent possibility in Scotland(a good excuse for another trip to Corrour, when's your anniversary?).You could try doing the Glasgow suburban network in the shortest possible time, including the Clockwork Orange. There are "tricky" stations and some possible weird "shortcuts" too. Timed carefully, you could finish at Helensburgh Central and catch the last train from Helensburgh Upper to Corrour. Just a thought, and maybe not as straightforward as you think, not all trains stop at all stations. A "Day Ranger" ticket *should* cover the whole thing. Cheers for now, Dougie.

@@patricescattolin43 Amtrak stations sure, but most of the commuter rail stations are part of mainline railways and therefore count too. Those would take ages to do especially since many of the stations are only served at rush hour in one direction, so it would take many days just to do the lines in one city.

Geoff, you are the Anika Rice of the London network. In fact there is another challenge to organise. Teams of people racing to find clues on the London network. Also please don't forget my idea of a 90 minute race to complete the Metro memory game. An event where we find out Who can remember the most london stations in 90 mins.

It is hard to see you torture yourself with the early wake-up and the long journey, without a nap! I know how it feels. In last September I traveled from Hamburg by train and bus in one go within a single day via Düsseldorf, Antwerp, Brussels and London to a town mostly known for Isaac Newton. I had a lunch break in Brussels and chances to nap, and even then it was a bit too much.

You looked so done when you said "Its gonna take 11 hours" (5:30) And when you failed I was like "HOW?" Couldnt you have checked the route on route somehow? Totally felt for you. Found your channel via my boyfriend. We both like you.

Geoff, some day you'll have to make a video about the different colours of the London commuter trains. What are the differences between purple and orange and all that? Are they really separate systems?🤔

You'll just have to start this challenge again, sometime Geoff... maybe even make a flash mob challenge out of it, so we can all help TfL afford Crossrail once this is all over! I'm sure you could plan all sorts of routes to have fun exploring...

I've been thinking lately about some of the stations which are on more than one line where it would take a train a LONG time to get from one platform to a other. Because there are very few track connections between the different tube lines. For example, a train in a H&C platform at Hammersmith that wanted to get to a District (or Piccadilly) platform would have to go to Baker Street, use the crossover and return through High Street Kensington. But that's fairly short. (Because the sub-surface lines are much more connected than the tube ones.) What would be the longest? To get from one platform to another at the SAME station. A train in a Central platform at Mile End would have to run to Ruislip depot and back to get to a District/H&C platform. (The return could be on the Met. Or it could be on the Piccadilly and District, changing from one to the other at Acton Town or Hammersmith.) Getting from Central to Jubilee at Stratford would involve the Metropolitan (changing at Ruislip depot and again at Wembley Park / Neasden). I can come up with a couple of stations where you would have to travel along FIVE different lines to get from one platform to another.
