7:40 Geoff's face when he realizes that that this might take 12 hours, he looks almost broken. IMO, the "problem" with this challenge is that "Overground" seems to be a catch-all term for TfL services that consists of repurposed National rail lines. Unlike the DLR or Underground, expanding the Overground could be as simple as a penstroke by taking over another line with no need for the construction of new infrastructure, for example, the Thameslink London core. [I am aware it is likely WAY more complicated than that in reality]. Anyway, good effort Geoff. Another excellent video

Yes, it's just a convenience reversal point, if things get snarled up getting into Clapham Junction, although their are those early morning scheduled journeys. I've been into Battersea Park on an unscheduled Overground train at least 3 times now, and observed a 4th one going there at Denmark Hill, so it's quite common. Also Battesea Park has the advantage of the bay platform being right next door to the southbound through line out of Victoria, so anybody arriving at Battersea Park wanting Claoham Junction isn't stranded there for long!!

One particularly route I found was the “East London Line”...sorry, delete “ly”...from Whitechapel, or Shoreditch, to New Cross/New cross gate. The stock in use was the same as the Metropolitan which was my favourite and I made countless journeys to Uxbridge, and even Chesham! For some strange reason Geoff, I put some serious thought into remaing projects for you. The most common suggestions seem to be tram/metro systems but there's at least one excellent possibility in Scotland(a good excuse for another trip to Corrour, when's your anniversary?).You could try doing the Glasgow suburban network in the shortest possible time, including the Clockwork Orange. There are "tricky" stations and some possible weird "shortcuts" too. Timed carefully, you could finish at Helensburgh Central and catch the last train from Helensburgh Upper to Corrour. Just a thought, and maybe not as straightforward as you think, not all trains stop at all stations. A "Day Ranger" ticket *should* cover the whole thing. Cheers for now, Dougie.

It seems that, not only did a freight train derail, but it continued for two and a half miles, breaking track and smashing sleepers. It also hit bridges and took out track-side equipment. I've been thinking lately about some of the stations which are on more than one line where it would take a train a LONG time to get from one platform to a other. Because there are very few track connections between the different tube lines. For example, a train in a H&C platform at Hammersmith that wanted to get to a District (or Piccadilly) platform would have to go to Baker Street, use the crossover and return through High Street Kensington. But that's fairly short. (Because the sub-surface lines are much more connected than the tube ones.) What would be the longest? To get from one platform to another at the SAME station. A train in a Central platform at Mile End would have to run to Ruislip depot and back to get to a District/H&C platform. (The return could be on the Met. Or it could be on the Piccadilly and District, changing from one to the other at Acton Town or Hammersmith.) Getting from Central to Jubilee at Stratford would involve the Metropolitan (changing at Ruislip depot and again at Wembley Park / Neasden). I can come up with a couple of stations where you would have to travel along FIVE different lines to get from one platform to another.
