I've recently gone to Thailand and my wife is from there too. For you all to know $1 USD = 37 Baht. So for USD conversion, $75,000 baht divided by 37 is $2027 USD a month and $40,000 baht equals $1081 USD a month. I can attest that the USD goes a long way, and 40,000 baht a month is a really good salary in Bangkok. If you make 40k USD a year in the USA you could live like a king in Thailand. A typical meal here in the US is around $50 to $100, in Thailand that same meal is about $4-6 USD for comparison.

Ok, I lived in BKK for some time then I realized that I could live in the North Chiang Rai for a fraction of the cost. I went from a 1 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house and it saved me enough money that I can Fly to BKK and back every weekend and still have a few Baht for a few meals. It's only a HR and 10 minute flight and sometimes from Suk 22 to the airport was a longer drive then the flight. Here you need 40k to do as you please in BKK then you need 100k a month and going further down to the Islands it's more than that. I enjoy the simple life and traveling and living in CR I can do more on a lot less. Live where you feel comfortable and Happiness is the Key.

@@johndoe3960 Hey, Everyone is different and I happen to enjoy living here because I wanted to get away from Westerners. I made enough by 45 dealing with people that I enjoy the laid back atmosphere. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your time here and I have to say that I enjoyed the pre COVID BS times and went out more but if you live here there's a lot to do. It's definitely a slower pace of life and I find the people to be very friendly unless they don't understand or speak English and would rather ignore you then losing face because they can't talk with you. Also I found that Northern Thai is different than BKK Thai and if you don't speak Thai then that could be your problem to. I choose to live here so I can spend more money on travel and I enjoy seeing New places and I live on a fixed income because I still have another 13 to 15 years and never want to worry about money again but still be able to do as much as I can with the time I have left. Even for a foreigner, 100,000 baht is more than enough to live comfortably in any part of thailand. Of course, your not by any means wealthy. If your eating out with a guest every day, that can be up to 50,000 per month, easily. A small place in a nice apartment is about 15,000. Then there is entertainment, transportation (round trip flights in and around thailand range 2k to 6k), house keeper(aka your girl friend, about 15,000), emergency fund, and etc. If you have a retirement nest egg of about 1.5 milliion USD and you keep it in the S&P 500. You can be conservative and withdraw about 3% or about 3,750 USD (130,000baht) per month. If you're frugal like me, you can do it with a quarter of the that.

@@robertphan8751 All of your math is correct you just need the actual interest and tax rates to get your exact numbers. In addition depending on what type of estate you want to leave behind you can start drawing from the principle at some point. 5K USD/month in Thailand is a very comfortable lifestyle. Personally being a non drinker and a bit on the stingy side I don't even spend 2K USD/month. Actually owning my house already and not having any debt my monthly maintenance expenses are about 1000 USD/month and that includes going out for dinner once a week and every new movie that is interesting(not much lately lol) . When I start traveling or we have guests from abroad that 1K/month is unrealistic. When traveling domestically I'm usually about $100usd per day for food/fuel/accommodations and that is because i'm cheap.

This was a super interesting video. In my opinion I think if you are making over 100,000 baht per month you are doing pretty good in Thailand. I know a lot of people in Thailand who have been pretty honest about their income. The majority of Thai people make between 10,000-50,000 baht per month. Some foreigners that I have met have made from a low of 30,000 baht to a high of 300,000 baht per month. When you are getting in to the higher range of those numbers, most of them are business owners.

@@sumireravenclaw8034 3k USD/month after taxes really isn't that much for a single income. Thats about 60k-65k$ USD a year. Thats not enough to afford a home (buy) in most major cities in the US. (if you live in rural or backwarter shit holes, thats good money, but only in them places) Yes I know there are alot of American who make less than that, but no one would consider them "rich" or "living it up". @@davidkellyjr2092 $65K / year in the US is a decent salary in the US. Affords you way more than "rural or backwater shit". You can live comfortably in big cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Austin, Miami, etc. Like you said, you may not be able to comfortably BUY a house, but you can definitely rent and live good in those cities with that salary. It's not just good money in shitty places. And it is higher than the median salary in the US, so that's a ridiculous statement.

It always depends on your style of living and vacation is not normal living. My last trip to Thailand was an experiment for me to see what it would be like to live there. I love Thai food, so that aspect was ridiculously inexpensive. I also dont drink or party, which for some is a huge expense. The most expensive is the accommodation. Renting is from 15,000 to 25,000 THB per month. After this comes food and going out. I think you need at least 50,000 thb per month to live a relaxed life in Pattaya area (and Pattaya is not expensive like BKK and Phuket). But ok 50,000 is also cheap compared to Europe and the US. Its better to go on holiday in Thailand than staying there permanent which probably will get boring ..

The lowest form of "rich" is being able to do whatever you wish short of the expense of high luxury goods such as a 2 million dollar yacht that costs another 2 mil/decade to maintain. Low rich means that you never need to work again, and you can do almost whatever you want within reason with no fear of ever going bust. In US money, this amount would be a nest egg of about 50x your annual liabilities at age 60 increased by about 3% more for every year younger you are. Adjust for the cost of living difference between Thailand and the US, and now you know if you have enough to be low rich in Thailand. Note, that 50x is actually twice the value you need to retire based on the 4% rule, so you could probably live in Thailand never working again on 25x, but you may need to keep at least some reasonable budget considerations in mind.

Covering all expenses and living a luxurious live are different though. the value of 1500USD will depend heavily on where you live but for basic necessity, it is more than enough. I live in Phuket. A villa starts anywhere at 40.000 baht and up. The amounts these girls mention don't make you rich in any way. A decent villa is 80k, a really nice one 120k+. During high season these prices double or even triple. My monthly costs with a 50k villa are 150k baht. I don't party, drink or whatever. I do eat a lot of food for bodybuilding, so food costs for me and my girlfriend are 25-35k baht a month. 40-50k/month as they said does not make you rich. It would mean I only have food, electricity, but no house, gas, or anything like that.

The amount stated by these girls is relative to their understanding of what makes someone financially free. I live off a net a income of around 100k and I'm certainly not rich, but compared to a lot of people I am in a relatively comfortable position. It's much like someone earning a million baht a month thinking someone who earns 70k a month is poor - it's all relative.

Interesting take on this from some Thai girls. Very cute ones too, especially the short one with the blonde streaks in her hair in the second interview. Frangs need to factor in extra expenses though compared to Thais. Such as medical insurance, visa renewals and currency fluctuations if you are relying upon a pension or monthly foreign income. Plus if you have a "girlfriend" or a wife she will expect you to help her pay for family support which is what a lot of these girls will be doing already while working. It's still a lot more affordable and better lifestyle than any first world western country for sure, but there are extras that will need to be accounted for too that are unique to a foreigner on a visa situation.

10K a month is more than enough for a family of 4 anywhere in thailand. I say this making some assumptions, if 2 of those require a good private school then the numbers change. But all in all at 10k/month you can live where you want and do what you like without worrying about money. The bigger worry is the new pending tax laws on taxing overseas earnings. Research that before you make any move.

I have a question. Everyone is talking about "salaries." Indeed, when talking about jobs, when someone says their new job pays $2,000 USD monthly, that $2,000 is BEFORE taxes and other deductions. One's "take-home" pay is way less than that. Here in the U.S. the average deductions for taxes, FICA, social security, state taxes, etc. total about 30 to 35 percent being lopped off your $2,000 salary. When Geofrey and all those interviewees are talking about monthly money one must be getting, are they talking NET amounts, or gross wages/salary (before deductions)? P.S. I duly note that guys getting U.S. Social Security payments are NOT taxed. But depending on the plan, retirement income may be subject to income taxes.
