I’m half Japanese/English. When in the UK i get asked where I’m “originally from”. When in Japan i get asked where I’m “originally from”. But repeatedly through out my life Ive been approached by the friendliest Kazakh people asking if I’m Kazakh. It’s nice to feel claimed by someone, even if I’m not 😅

Fun fact; since the Ural River (which flows from the Ural Mountains into the Caspian Sea) is considered part of the Continental boundary between Europe and Asia, that means that the westernmost 10 percent of Kazakhstan (on the west side of said river) is actually in Europe. Also, I think you should have mentioned Khoja Akhmet Yassui's mausoleum since it is a more prominent place than lots of things you have mentioned. In addition to this, I think it is worth noting that Turkey was the first country to support our independence and not the USA.

It actually depicts Cossack people (казаки, казачество) of Ukraine and sothern Russian border regions, Zaparozhian Cossacks (запорожские казаки, запорожцы), to be exact, but not Kazakhs (казахи), but I can see why they could get mixed up. Coincidentally enough, Cossacks were(are?) also people of mixed blood with history-long ties with Russia

I was in Kazakhstan two months ago :) I had the opportunity to stay in Almaty a few days. You can definitely tell it's a pretty modern country (it's absolutely far from being Borat's Kazakhstan ahah). I've also watched "It" at the cinema there. I've paid 1,50 € instead of 7 € I would have paid in Italy. Also, when I came back to Italy, I found out that at that time the movie hadn't come out yet in Europe lol I could boast with my friends for that Kazakhstan > Italy
