Also there was a recent tectonic earthquake with an intensity 5 between Masbate and Albay, Philippines(more likely at the bottom of the sea) between 3am and 3:30am of August 20, 2022 and was thinking if there is a connection that might activated the resting volcano.

Mayon’s symmetry is also dangerous feature. Since pyroclastic flows seek low points, they would usually go here. However, Mayon is extremely symmetric, with only shallow drainage patterns on its flanks. This means that if a pyroclastic flow was energetic enough, its path isn’t very clear, as due to Mayon’s symmetry, we don’t know which side will get affected by the pyroclastic flows. There are also pyroclastic surges, which are faster and more turbulent than pyroclastic flows. They can pass over ridges, so they make Mayon an even more dangerous volcano. This, along with the fact that it has a lot of people living near it and it has the possiblity of a flank collapse, makes me think that it should be classified as a decade volcano. Geology Hub, do you think Mayon deserves to be a decade volcano ?

Glad to be a Patreon and thank you for the recognition. And how appropriate for you to talk about a possible volcano explosion in the Philippines; I was living in Palau Micronesia when Mt Pinatubo exploded in 1991 and the subsets were the most amazing sunsets I’ve ever seen with my own eyes. Yes, it affected so many people and I was safely hundreds and hundreds of miles away. But they reminded me of how people in England had great sunsets after Krakatoa and something that had to be seen to be believed.

As you were saying "Sulphur Dioxide", I am thinking "SO²...? That sounds familiar..." It was used as a refrigerant gas a LONG time ago... and turns out, I still have a partial tank of it in the back of my shop from when my dad used to work on old (20's or 30's) refrigerators back in the 1950's. Smells like rotten eggs, and is very effective as a dog attack deterrent. (One of his stories from long ago... while working on a unit, the dog ran at him very aggressively... but quickly retreated when he got a whiff of the SO²... psssst...) True, Mount Iriga has a horseshoe shaped crater, like Mount Meru, Mount Bezymianny and Mount St. Helens. I believe that some of the other volcanoes you have mentioned also have a similar structure.
@EirinYagokoro2 жыл бұрын
@@SpaceLover-he9fj I've seen all of them in person. Mt. Iriga's flank collapse seems to only happen a few hundred years ago and its debris formed the scattered hills in Buhi and also blocked the river there causing Lake Buhi to form There's not much studies about Mt. Masaraga but it has twin peaks and twin craters as well. The northern peak appears to had a devastating flank collapse and sent debris down to the valley below while the southern peak, which is the volcano's summit, is still mostly intact except for a small flank collapse on the northern side Isarog and Malinao are basically just the same as Mt Banahaw in Southern Luzon What intrigues me is the mysterious volcano east of Mt. Labo. I'm not even sure of its name except locals call it Culasi. It appears to be a fairly large volcano that has been long inactive

@justcats77382 жыл бұрын
6kms is the permanent exclusion zone for Mayon even before the unrest was noted. there were structures and decent population residing inside but whenever the volcano starts to act these people will immediately evacuated for precaution and safety purposes. the set permanent radius of 6 kilometers extends up to 8 km to 9 depending on the depth of uncertainties and situations and also by the frequency of volcanic unrest.

MAYON, like PICO, in the Azores, or FUJI, in Japan, has to be one of the World's most beautiful volcanoes. When I saw that circled exclusion zone I said to the person next to me that I thought it was a silly circle and it seemed to cut through previous pyroclastic flows because someone wanted to draw a perfect circle. Then you showed how lava bombs went way beyond the circle in the past and so did pyroclastic flows proving what I just said. Whoever in their government who drew that circle should also include areas farther away where lava bombs could land and pyroclastic flows would reach. I'd stay more than twice as far away as that circle if I was gonna film it erupting or something.

I would like information on extinct volcanoes in New South Wales, Australia. Some reports say there are heaps, others say none. Was Barrington Tops a volcano? Will there be any seismic activity in Australia in our lifetime?
@darrellturner5602 жыл бұрын
I'm not a geologist but visit Mt. Warning in northern NSW west of Byron Bay. That was a massive volcano. You can get to the top of it relatively easy. Well worth the hike a truly beautiful place with massive old growth cedar trees at its base. As for seismic activity you ever heard of the Newcastle earthquake in 1989 or 90. It was a big one that almost flatened the place. Around the southern border with Victoria there is ground movement due to plate movement. There is a lot of interesting geological stuff about Australia on line. A little known fact is the world's second largest granite monolith is in north eastern NSW. Another amazing geological feature worth a visit to. The size of it is mind blowing. The Barrington Tops was one of my favourite places. I lived on the western flanks for a bit. Pretty sure they were formed through plate movement. Going to check on that out of interest. Edit: I just checked the platue is an ancient shield volcano. Thank you I just learned something I didn't know.
@robertnichols22832 жыл бұрын
Perhaps the reason gas emissions haven’t increased as much as expected with magma movement is that the recent lava dome is a better seal than usual? If so the next eruption could be more explosive than usual? I just have a bad feeling about this one.
@KristiContemplates2 жыл бұрын
Let's prepare for the worst and hope for the best
@justcats77382 жыл бұрын
Four years of inactivity seems too short for magma to completely change in composition. though while volcanic gases easily escapes from less silicate magma like basalt, it is however unlikely to be passively emitted as already mentioned that the volcanic pipe is fully sealed by old magma deposit.

@Vesuviusisking2 жыл бұрын

@bouteilledeau14632 жыл бұрын
