If this is actually happening, it’s pretty bad and our world governments should be HIGHLY concerned. Unchecked, this could contaminate a significant portion of our fresh water sources and lead to major drought on a global scale due to less clean water being available for human consumption.

May I make a suggestion? While 1.7 m technically _is_ 66.9", this suggests a precision that is not there. As a rule of thumb, keep the significant digits the same when converting units. So 1.7 m corresponds to 67" (even that implies more precision that is really given in the statement of 1.7 m. but at least it's not off by an order of magnitude.)

a few hours south of Ossipee NH, in the Raymond/Deerfield area, called Patackaway state park there is a 200 million year old volcano. If you look at that area on google maps with the terrain feature turned on you can see what's left of the ring.

Not gonna lie. This shit is scary for many reasons. Imagine tens of thousands of miles of water ways like these and were they filter out. If this reaches a settlement as big as New York City could turn into a humanitarian crisis. There's droughts reaching northern frontiers. Various implications can persist. Like the collective well-being of not just human beings.

TWO factors you may want to consider for magma movement, as both cause molten conductive materials to be more fluid. First, in 1948 a scientist by the name of Hannes Alfvén conducted experiments to try to understand plasma in space by using mercury with mirrors floating on it in a container where he could vary the magnetic field on it. Using mercury means that the results are more relevant to magma and the mantle in general. The results showed that molten conductors become less viscous as magnetic field strength is reduced. This applies to Earth, as the magnetic field strength has been in decline since the 1850s. The planet is undergoing a magnetic field reversal or excursion, we don't know which yet. The data shows that every time there is a decent geomagnetic storm the *rate of decline increases* and by this point the field strength has dropped approximately 30% since the 1850s. This creates the second condition, a weaker magnetic field, which means more cosmic radiation for the planet. Since much of the cosmic radiation actually passes completely through the planet, magma in the ground is affected as well. The effect of particle radiation on magma and indeed the mantle is to lower its viscosity even more. So thinner more slippery magma means more movement, both the magma and whatever it is lubricating. You can search for 'modern cosmic ray maximum' for more details.

Been following for a while now, would love if you could elaborate on the source of the Ethiopian magma dike. I’ve heard it referred to as a super plume and I’m curious if this is a plume similar to one that creates flood basalt eruptions? Great content as always

Its amazing how fast erosion is in the equatorial tropics. Half a million years and its already flat and unrecognizable. Its also interesting how you can see that that area is prioritized for agriculture, as the andesitic rock now eroded into soil would make for very fertile land.

The degassing bubbles may have also been methane that was trapped in the sediment of the lake bed from decomposing plants and animal remains that was shook loose from the earthquake.

If the lava dike we’re to teach the dofan volcano, is there any risk of different silicon content magmas mixing? I know that basaltic intrusions can become significantly more explosive if they encounter some types of magma that had been previously emplaced before hand. Just wondering if that’s a potential risk now that the intrusion is getting very close to the dofan volcanic system.

Intrude or excrete.. It seems you're seeking a specific term for the process or state involving volcanic activity, particularly one that describes magma intruding, being excluded (erupted), and the rift dynamics. While there isn't a single word that encapsulates all of these stages, here are related terms: 1. Volcano: The structure itself that forms due to the processes you’re describing. 2. Intrusion: When magma enters the crust without reaching the surface, forming features like dikes or sills. 3. Eruption: The exclusion or release of magma (lava), gases, and ash from the volcano. 4. Effusion: The steady outpouring of lava during non-explosive eruptions. 5. Fissure: A rift or crack in the Earth’s surface, often where magma emerges. 6. Rift zone: A region where tectonic plates are pulling apart, creating space for magma to intrude and erupt. If you're looking for a poetic or metaphorical term, you could use something like "rift screech" to capture the dynamic, violent nature of the process. Would you like help coining a completely new term for it?

So, if the Ethiopian rift dike did erupt, would it be explosive, or would it be like a flood basalt?
@sigisoltau6073
@sigisoltau6073 14 сағат бұрын
Depends on where it erupts. If the eruption starts under that lake it could be explosive. However, if it starts on land it could be more like what we see in Iceland since the magma in the Ethiopian intrusion is basaltic. Honestly, I'm not a geologist like Tim here, but the longer this intrusion goes on the more likely an eruption could happen. Did the math and the amount of magma coming up per second is roughly 265 cubic meters.

The lake outgassing in El Salvador probably is a mix of collected gasses (some of it from decay in the sediments) that got "shaken out" of the lake bottom. Gasses would collect in the mud, and it can take a bottom disturbance to free them. You can see gas releases from mud or sand in many places, simply from walking on an underwater area that hasn't seen any foot traffic in months or years

Hello.. This might be an off the wall question but, do climatologists consider the affects if any on these eruptions as part of global warming? I know your reports show it’s pretty average to have 40+ eruptions at a time so I’ve been curious about this. How many eruptions were happening during the last global warming event. Thank you for all your knowledge and getting it out to so many. 💥

As a working meteorologist (note: not a climatologist per se but climo is a part of my job) average volcanism is generally included in climotological models. While above average years are possible, more than 2 sigma above average are generally considered outliers. I know this is not a full😮 explanation, but do msg me if you have further questions about climo I may be able to answer them or I have colleague who could also answer them

Considering that volcanic emissions utterly dwarf the small amounts humanity emits, *they should* Also considering that the entire narrative is mostly altered and falsified data, they will *never* mention natural causes for anything. This is a condition of getting published or of getting any grant money, which is their bread and butter. FWIW the gasses you are worried about are 97% emitted from natural sources, with the *entirety of human activities* accounting for barely 3%. Also water vapor which we cannot control or alter, has about *20 times* the effect of the gas in question. Tony Heller right here on YT presents evidence of all of this on a weekly basis and has for decades, consider this a source. Also the CDN (Climate Discussion Nexus).

I've actually summitted this with my girl friend Marla at the time and watched a really crazy guy try to ski down right over us who were on the side of an ice cliff waiting to go up and over below us being the venting volcano things so was quite terrifying just to be standing there actually but needless to say the primal scream of death from the guy who *ULTIMATELY* made it down safely skiing right down upon us flailing about was the bigger memory of course😊😊
