Thank you. That was fantastic. I learnt a lot and now know a few more artists that I can research further. I did a short abstract painting course last year, and when I discussed it with one of my other art teachers, she was insistent that abstract art is ALWAYS abstracted from reality. I think that what I was trying to describe to her was non-representational art or the kind of pure abstraction of Hilma af Klint. This has really helped me. Thnaks again.

Nice video. Reminded me how much I like most of these artists’ work, and introduced me to Al Held whose work I was not familiar with!

Great video. only one question. Is there any sensible reason why Vasily Kandinsky shouldn’t be in the video ?
@eoomwake3 ай бұрын
I don’t think he really strongly fit into the geometric abstraction territory, but he could be included for sure. It had to do with space when making the video.

Well the voice of the narrator certainly is abstracted of all colour.

Frank stella *was* and American artist?
@eoomwake3 ай бұрын
I don’t think he was born in America, but was considered an American artist. In the video probably says where he was born.

what is the name of the song that plays at 6:00?
@eoomwake3 ай бұрын
Don’t know. Most of the songs have been altered by speeding up or slowing down so they don’t get flagged by KZbin.

Don´t like any of that, feel like technical exercises orientated for theory or so, but compared to what art is nowadays (a banana stocked on a wall) those are masterpieces!

Abstraction does not always work from representational forms.

@@eoomwake For example, if working with color theory, I may create a swatch of color and then 'balance' that swatch with a variation of a triadic relationship. Building on those two swatches, proceed to build an entire piece simply derived from color theory. I could give many examples of how to build an abstraction on any number of premises (e.g., color theory, multiple point perspective, or just the direction of brush marks on a surface, etc.) I work in many styles, depending on what approach is best called for in dealing with any particular goal.

@@eoomwake To add, every form of art I engage in comes with certain predominant feelings that depend entirely on the process necessary in order to achieve that form, plus whatever I add of my own abilities, or lack of same. Sometimes it is very uncomfortable to have to restrict myself, because the differences in working techniques can be very extreme. But a piece dictates, often with an iron hand.

@@eoomwake Also, geometric abstraction is just what it is. One does not have to abstract from that which exists in the real world as material things. One can use geometry itself, and build an abstract study which relies on geometric postulates and even posit theoretical constructs.

Hilma Klimpt was NOT PART OF THE ART WORLD AND DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE INCLUDED. So much for any credibility you had.
