Geometric & Mandala Tooling on Leather with Matt

There are many ways to use the stamping tools you have, but today we are thinking outside the box! You might have talked to Matt on the phone...he is our laser guy! If you ask for something to be engraved at SLC, you can bet he worked on it. Maybe you have used a Belt Ninja...he lasered it out. When the pandemic swept through and we had to work from home, Matt got a double shoulder and set off learning a new craft! As a geometric tooler I really enjoyed this video. It gives me some new ways of thinking about filling large areas with circular designs. This could be an alternative to basket weave fills.

I ground one side of my wing dividers into a chisel point and if I use extra pressure it will cut the leather like a swivel knife.

Measure the diameter of the circle then multiply the diameter times pi, 3.1416 and that is the circumference. Example a 2 1/2 inch diameter circle is 2.5 x 3.1416 = 7.853 or close to 7 and 7/8ths or 7.875 in circumference.

A hi from Indonesia. Thanks for the wonderful tutorials (kinda) video. So glad to find this video across the internet... I'm just wondering if we have to use the tools from BK to get best results. But they're very pricy. Do you think the tools from other cheaper brands will do good too?

These are not BK tools. You can use which ever ones you have. Most of all makes sure to have fun!

That is so the leather doesn't stretch so much. When you stamp you are moving the leather around, but we don't want to stretch our project out too much. So the tape helps with that.
