This is phenomenal! The first geo nodes tutorial I've watched that didn't instantly go full on "John Nash" on the math nodes but explained things calmly and thoroughly. You sir might be the reason I finally start to understand geometry nodes. Excellent! :)

Now, you've challenged me to go all John Nash, who is this man (I am a biologist so I know what a man is)? Oh crap, Idk what you mean by that, so may I have an example of these John Nashed tuts you are referencing!?

@@gorkskoal9315 My comment was a year a go. Geometry nodes might have changed 3 times since then. I have many geo add-ons i downloaded earlier that doesn't work on newer versions of blender. Thankfully, given that it's free, earlier versions of blender are always available for download to run older add-ons if need be.
@quadgon

@@gorkskoal9315 strange, since I remember following along back when it was released and it worked. The whole reason I made the post in the first place. But remember that 3.0 are in many stages. If this was when 3.0 was in some alpha or beta state the geo parameters might have changed before final release.

Terrific tutorial! I've just been diving into some more advanced tutorials just to learn new tips and tricks, but they always seem to skip stuff and suddenly stop making sense. This was easy to follow, engaging, and provided a lot of useful tips and information that I'm actually going to absorb for future use! Definitely watching the rest of this part series

Honestly, not editing out mistakes (like fucking up with removing one of the panels at the start) feels more authentic to me. Tutorials who do edit out mistakes seem more professional, but also make me feel like they just know everything without failing which is not good for motivation. Keep it up! Love the tutorial so far!

I was surprised to see that Position worked correctly even though not after the subdivide, but in a different path. I thought it would have only taken the position from the original vertex when using the Position node. I was expected to see some 'blocky' areas where they were all the same near the original points. Although I guess I see how it works now. It's all relevant to the node being processed. You know it's the position of the subdivided mesh because those are the positions in the geometry passed to the SetPosition node. At first, I was thinking that attribute was always for initial geometry.

what methods are there to convert geometry nodes objects into real meshes that can be exported as fbx/obj?
@CGObaid
@CGObaid 6 ай бұрын
If the Geometry nodes setup doesn't contain Instances, then you can just Apply the modifier then export it as fbx or any other format. But if you're dealing with instances, then at the end of the geometry nodes tree after using the Instance on Points node, you'd have to add the Realize Instances node (which converts the instances into real geometry. Like applying all the modifiers). Then with the object selected, press "Ctrl + A" and choose "Make instances Real"

3:05 how? I don't see keyframes in that node window. So how could you animate anything if it doesn't have the keyframe dot to the right? Im new so I don't know. thx for the tut!

You can add a keyframe by hovering your mouse over a value then pressing the "I" key on the keyboard or by right clicking on the value then choosing add keyframe. In order to see the keyframe in the timeline, you need to make sure that both the object and the node in which you have added the keyframe are selected.
