Am I the only one thinking that they have essentially heaven on earth in terms of solar energy?? if they partnered with the EU, for example, in order to build a giant solar park they would have basically free energy and a powerful ally to have a balance with Turkey. @@joseanl I guess in the past Egypt was the dominant power in the world because it has close proximity to Europe, Africa and Asia and the Nile river and the Mediterranean and deserts. Egypt was the dominant power for thousands of years, the rise of the west was the end of that #1 status. Greeks, and Romans passed Egypt, Rome expanded it's borders in order to survive. Geography decides a lot, new challenges a new nation new world. The only civilization that has had almost perfect success is China thousands of years of doing well in every era, strange, and stability and a lasting identity.

To keep in mind, the Italian peninsula was in Europe, the most productive region (industrially in sfittì on to agriculturally) however it where’s that food went to the regional cities (mediolanum, Florentia, Neapolitan... Italy was the most populated region in the western emisphere) Rome itself, bought it’s good from Egypt as it could produce even more food, and was thus cheaper (the government subsidied it to make it free for all Italians living within Latium).

Egyptian doctor here. This video is spot on. I'd like to chip in and say that if Egypt is to go anywhere, it has to resolve its problems of corruption and nepotism first and foremost. A country can only be built by its people. And if people are to build Egypt, they have to be motivated and satisfied with their government and living standard. This is obviously not the case for me, nor is it for millions of Egyptians. But it is especially not the case for STEM graduates. The situation for doctors, engineers, scientists, and educated people with degrees in general (aka the people who have the capability to build the country and bring it forward) is absolutely abysmal. The corruption and nepotism strangles the whole population who are not a part of Egypt's military oligarchy. Thus, there's no incentive for anyone to stay in Egypt to build it for the future. For example, 50 percent of Egyptian medical school graduates emigrate, whether to the Gulf states or to Europe and the US. And that's only to mention how it is for doctors. If this trend continues, it'll be a catastrophe for Egypt.

Well, I think that reducing population growth is also important. A growth like at 13:12 is completely unsustainable. No wonder you have trouble feeding the population, if it has grown by 500% in 60 years. I have not visited Egypt, but have visited other Arab countries, and the size of the population is much larger than the land can sustain, especially in the Gulf states.

Egypt just has so few options, given it being so water constrained. In regards to Egypt's new capital city, I've always wondered why they didn't choose to build it as a port city on the coast of the Gulf of Suez, such as using the land near Ain Sokhna or Zaafarana. Safaga would actually seem to be the perfect location. This would provide Egypt with a new gateway to the world on its eastern flank and fortify its presence in the Suez Gulf. Major port facilities, access to industry, fishing, tourism, foreign investment potential, military and navy patrols, etc. Do you know why Egypt decided to forego all of these seeming geostrategic benefits, and instead opted to build the new capital in the middle of a desert?

As an Egyptian, thank you for this balanced report. You neglected to mention an important facet of Egypt's current impasse with Turkey: the Turkish claim actually gives Egypt far more of the Eastern Mediterranean's gas than the Israeli claim. It's just that the Egyptian military is more like a mafia syndicate than a state institution.

As always an excellent video by Shervan. But still, he forgot to mention one very important aspect: The invaluable treasures in the grounds of the country. The pyramids are just the most known of them, but basically the entire country is sprawling of amazing archeological sites and ancient relicts given 5000+ years of continuous written and built history. It's the perfect setting for high-value tourism for all over the world. Just imagine how much money they could make by making it standard for the global top 1% of society to send their children for 6 weeks to Egypt to discover its treasures. That would be 2+ million tourists every year with each one of them spending some 10,000$ there.

Mizraim or Mitsrayim, is not a Nick Name, that's the Original Name given to the Land named After the Son of Ham, Mizraim or Mitsrayim.. It was the Greeks who Named the land Egypt, which is in fact a nickname meaning house of bondage.
