This has to be one of the absolute best software tutorials on KZbin. Seriously! Perfectly clear instructions easy to follow speed and no bullshit ass music.

Very good quick run through, I don't know much about QGIS but I was able to understand most of what was being explained, looking forward to doing some georeferencing myself soon.

I have been working with GIS a lot longer than you, but being retired I still find reasons to create maps and do spatial analysis. I am learning new systems as I have never liked ESRI’s tactics. I do have an active Global Mapper license and need to digitize a very old trail across the Appalachian High Plateau that only exists on an ungeoreferenced image. It looks from your video like QGIS has the superior georeferencing system. Thanks!

Thank you so much! I was getting so frustrated when my modified map would turn out all warped, but I followed your amazingly clear and great tutorial, and I got it!

Thanks for introducing me to this software. I have this software installed in my PC from 7-8 yrs but not practicing it. now you inspired me to use this. I will defiantly introduce this to my Msc evn science students. looking forward to contact with you through ur channel. Thanks.

Thank you for sharing, this was a great explanation! How do you inverse the georeferencing process? Distort the modern map to match the undistorted antique map.
@burdGIS3 жыл бұрын
Interesting idea. Assuming the antique map is already georeffed the you could output the modern map as an image (jpeg or PNG) and bring it in to be georeffed using the antique map as reference
@sorin-voicu3 жыл бұрын
@@burdGIS thank you for your reply, I will give it a shot. Was hoping I could somehow use the .points data that was created when georeferencing the antique map. I will need to output the elevation map, and features are challenging to match to the antique map.

Great video and very clear. What is the best approach when you've got layers with different CRS's like WGS84 for Google underlay and then UK LIDAR data using OSGB1936? The georeferencing is then way off? Sorry if I'm asking a daft question but I'm fairly new to this.
@burdGIS4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. In this scenario which layer is being georeferenced? It sounds like both have a CRS. If, however, you're aiming to georef a layer that does not have a CRS then I would always set my PROJECT CRS to the desired CRS. Any other layers required in the project I would REPROJECT to the desired CRS. If using a basemap the setting of the project CRS should project them on the fly but I'd be tempted to use some OSGB36 base layers (check out the Ordnance Survey's free offerings) to use as reference. I hope that helps and please feel free to get in touch via email (www.burdgis.com/contact) if you have any questions.

great video thank you. do you know if theres a work around when the jpeg you are trying to geo reference layer isnt displayed on you source map.
@burdGIS4 жыл бұрын
When you add the layer to be georeferenced it sometimes won't show. You have to fit to display. Also make sure to double check layer order in the layers panel

Very nice video. But how do we get these maps under xyz tiles?
@burdGIS5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for supporting the channel Dhaval! You could use something like map tiler (www.maptiler.com/) to build your own basemap using a georeffed image. If you'd like a video on how to do this please let me know.

Thanks for this. I have a rectangular .png file that I want to convert to a raster image. I also have a .kml file which has the bounding coordinates (north, south, east and west) of the .png. I want to georeference this onto an open map. base layer. Any thoughts on this?
@burdGIS4 жыл бұрын
Thanks John. Where did the .kml come from and do you know what coordinate system it is in?
@jbibbotson4 жыл бұрын
@@burdGIS Hi Oliver, the .kml came from an application called ve2dbe which is a coverage modeller for radio systems. You enter an aerial point and the radio characteristics and it shows the coverage using a topology map. We're part of a DCMS funded project looking at mobile not spots near Salisbury and I wanted to take a number of these coverage plots and add them as layers to QGIS. Would it be easier for me to contact you directly by email? Here's the kml: Coverage of Craigleith 2309 MHz Coverage 2309.000 MHz | 3.55 W ERPI | 144.00 dB System Gain 88ffffffRM1F8102A0039C_3.png 0.75 51.09198 50.91212 -1.839842 -2.125662 Craigleith -1.98275161, 51.00205308,0

Thanks for the video. If I wanted to georeference a Bing Maps map and align it with British National Grid coordinates would I change the 'Target SRS' to British National Grid in the Transformation Settings?
@burdGIS4 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick. Yes, that should work. It may be easier to bring in Bing imagery as a tile layer and then set the project CRS to EPSG 27700. This was QGIS will reproject the tile layer on the fly. Take a look at my xyz tile layer video for more info: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKfWfmCZmMlnatE And let me know how you get on.
