Mr. Antheil was also a noted and prolific film score composer, including a favorite of mine, Nicholas Ray's 'In a Lonely Place'.

If this work hasn't achieved "classic" status yet, it certainly should. It's one of the best and most enjoyable works of its kind. I first heard it many years ago on one of the early CRI LP's (103) conducted by Alfredo Antonini; it's been a favorite of mine ever since.

@Nathan Rocky No one does, not even your gf. By the way, have you ever actually taken the time to listen to a piece of classical music? It would give you something better to do.

Reminds me of the Serenade for string orchestra op 11 by Dag Wirén, written 10 years earlier.

Self-proclaimed "Bad boy of Music". Hilarious! So composery. But cool. Like him.

It's said he was called the bad boy of music coz when he was stuck for good ideas while composing,he used to pick his nose then roll it in a ball and flick it at his Dad! (For inspiration you understand-coz his Dad would then proceed to come out with some amazing new sounds never previously encountered anywhere on the planet!).

Strange . The Ballet Mechanique and the original unedited version of his Jazz Symphony from 1925 showed a very promising composer. Then because he fled Europe he worked in Hollywood too often and was expelled and lost out on being the bad boy of music as he once was. As well a terrible blasphemy to himself was the editing of the Jazz Symphony. He should have kept better contact to Stravinsky.
