George Bell was one of my favorite all time Blue Jays

I was at this game on May 28, 1989. I had gone to Toronto to watch the Jays last 6 game at Exhibition Stadium against the Twins and White Sox. Then I followed them down to Cleveland and on to Boston. It was a wonderful two weeks.

That homerun by Bell is forever known as the ''Blast from the Last'' .I hate to admitit but I kind of miss Exhibition Stadium. Okay, it was a bad ballpark i know, but it sure gave us a lot of great memories that will never be forgotten by Jays fans.

Many attempts were made to convert football stadiums into baseball stadiums. This was the worst because of the size of the Canadian football fields, and then there was the weather by Lake Ontario.

I liked it more than the dome... open air atmosphere, great view of the CNE and skyline, fans were louder and blue collar compared to the stuffy corporate crowd that filled the luxury boxes at the dome - Plus they got a good wave going every game. It was just better to watch a game there - I even appreciated the seagulls that flew in. Something died when they left... my first game at the dome it was closed (for no reason cause it never rained) and it felt claustorphobic and like I was in a giant airline hanger or something - It was dim and awful in comparison - I was really hoping the Jays would get a new stadium something like Seattle or Camdem Yards in Baltimore.

Proud to say I suffered the horror of those outfield metal benches on many a hot & cold day lol Makes me feel old saying that but I wouldn't trade those years for anything! New fans that take winning & a dome for granted, will never really be able to understand :o)

This was my first-ever game! Helluva way to close out that much-hated Exhibition Stadium.

He had a short fuse when he got beamed. Especially when the ball comes at you 98mph. A great career. Hope he is inducted . He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Great baseball player. One of my favorite players to watch

This game is my first REAL memory as a Blue Jay fan. My Mom had a friend who LOVED baseball, but none of her kids did. My Mom hated baseball, but I loved it. So her friend Laura used to "borrow" my brother and I so she would have someone to go to the games with. I remember that ball landing only a few rows in front of me as if it happened yesterday.

When the Vikings played the last game at Metropolitan Stadium fans tried taking souvenirs and caused a bunch of damage to the park. And Cleveland stadium likewise years later when the browns left...... during that time they had to guard against people going crazy like that.

Back in those days the crowds were pretty rowdy. Every game I went to had someone running on the field. Sitting up in bleachers was wild. $2.00 and worth every penny!
