So proud of all these people! This is how a province deals with such matters. People need to see them, hear from them and know what is happening. It shows professionalism, it shows actual care for their work/jobs and care for the people of the province. Okay, so the rescue is going well. Now, b4 the contractors run away , let's see some apprehensions by the cops . Who is taking samples of the building materials. Who drew up the plans etc etc. Buildings don't collapse without reason

Working with unskilled labour that does not understand the logistics of construction the sad part is there is no more proper skills training institutions doing apprenticeship and taking them through the whole process sad sad today it's just about money

I had a zim guy who claimed he was a shrink and showed me his zim university degree. So I asked him why he's mixing cement instead of fixing heads.

Being able to do press conferences, is not a measure of how you deal with a tragedy. We had a similar incident in Upington, this weekend, no lives lost. Obviously, no news coverage. Upington is an ANC controlled municipality. What is the DA doing in the Western Cape. So much lives lost, while Windy is giving press conferences, for no one. Why is he not saving lives?

Actually, a professional contractor would know if a engineer's not up to the task. When I was still active on site, we'd be wary of the light weights with limited experience. We tended to get 2nd opinion within the same organization ,surreptitiously.

Not true. An appy never signs off on anything without a senior. Blame is on the civl engineer who signed off on the structure and there were probably no AIA level approvals.

A "safety representative" is NOT responsible for compliance to safety rules and regulations.... He is simply a conduit for employees to raise safety complaints/concerns with management.... MANAGEMENT is responsible for the compliance to safety rules and regulations....

An OHS Inspector is responsible is responsible for regulaltory and compliance of the Act, and conduct site visits and audits, and is not only a conduit to employees, and is normally an independent company. The site inspection and audit arenormally undertaken monthly, and reported to the Contractor, and the required action is to be taken. If there is a risk or any other issues that contiue to remain unchanged, the developer is then consulted and remedial action is to be concluded. So, yes, there is a responsibility by OHS.
