Yup, it was truly enjoyable, plus I do like westerns. Reminds me that my grandfather who came all the way from the Ukraine to homestead in Alberta. He broke wild horses and worked in the lumber industry in B.C. to save up enough to get some land, build a house and barn and raise a family out on the prairie. When he was old and retired from the farm, he liked to read paperbacks about cowboys and the old West. He was a fine man. Lived to be 90. Now, I’m getting on myself. Maybe I’ll be seeing him again.

Right off the top, the gunslinger, hanging upside down from his horse sees the little Chinese girl looking at him and he says "You... uh... speaky English?" And she says "Do you? " That just cracked me up. What a great way to start a comedy. 🙂 If I'm not mistaken I think most of these actors are Canadians. I know Paul Gross is! Also of note is the fact that it was filmed near Osoyoos, BC... the hottest place in Canada, often reaching over 100° F in the summer.

The top of the comments had a post from a guy named Clyde, I've never been led astray by a man named Clyde and that is still true, thank-you, Mr. Housewright, this was a strangely satisfying film with a vaguely misguided and unlikely hero who clearly had no idea how to conduct himself around people who actually cared about each-other, themselves and him without any motivation outside of "common" decency and a desire to see justice, mercy and transformation work themselves out in their God-driven little town. Incidentally, besides the little girls dog about halfway through the movie, nobody died in this story and that's a good thing, the world, the United States, Israel and The Middle East are all shameful and corrupted places and maybe things could change a little if we only watched movies like this one...movies that frown on violence and reward us with joy. Thanks again Clyde.

Great movie with a great over the border comparison between the violent late 19th century old west and the rugged rural peaceful Canadian northwest. Unfortunately, in the present too many Americans and Canadians have forgotten that honesty, freedom, self government and courage were the founding backbones of both countries. Federal Governments do not provide, they only take from those who do and support those who don't.
