I’ve never heard of the American comedian, George Carlin before, and a lot of you guys wanted me to watch him for the first time right here on the Irish girl channel. Well! I was not disappointed. He certainly has a unique style of humor, and I really dig his use of lists. If you enjoy these reactions to stand up comedy, be sure to let me know below in the comments. George Denis Patrick Carlin (May 12, 1937 - June 22, 2008) was an American comedian, actor, author, and social critic . He was known for his black comedy and his musings on psychology, religion, and various tabo o subjects. His "seven dirty words" monologue was instrumental in denouncing a case in the United States Supreme Court. Regarded as one of the most important and influential comedians of all time, one newspaper called him the "King of counterculture comedians."

I had an argument with a friend when I told her that Carlin isn't really comedy. His material is a lecture on the downfall of society with just enough humor to make it palatable to the general public while the huge minority of the audience actually understands what he is saying in the bigger picture.

George Carlin's "Seven Dirty Words" routine led to a US Supreme Court ruling in the case of FCC v. Pacifica Foundation. After that, broadcasters used the words to remind entertainers what they cannot say on live television broadcasts. The routine is one the funniest things ever heard, in a list of highly entertaining and extremely funny observations from Mr. Carlin. He was the best as far as I am concerned and I truly loved comedy...especially before the PC police jumped on it.

Listen to the original routine from the Class Clown album, in 1972. He made several updates in the following decade, but the original is a masterpiece of language commentary. By the way, Carlin was arrested in the early 70's for his live performance, so he had a particular interest in the topic.

GC was a great person, an intellectual who wanted good in the world. Not the ordinary, superficial, phony, shallow. He had unique way of expressing all that and more, most definitely non violent. He was outrageous to grab your attention and make a point. He often went to the extreme to create a distinct perspective, always to get folks to think, possibly reconsider, and of course laugh. Bill Hicks was a genius in a similar vein, though he took in your face obnoxiousness to a different universe. Always to make a point. Brilliant man with the best of intentions for humanity, though his humor is very likely not for everyone. Miss him. Enjoying your videos! Diane, George Carlin is my favorite comedian of all time. He is one of the most influential comedians and social critics of the last half of the 20th century. His masterful use of the English language is unparalleled. This isn't even close to his best stuff. A lot of his early work set up legal precedents about obscenity. He was the voice of “Fillmore” in Pixar’s “Cars”. He was popular going back to the 1960’s, but became a lot edgier in the 1980’s. Want a good clean comedian? I recommend Jeff Foxworthy. You can start with his signature routine “You might be a redneck”, but his routine on his Colonoscopy is to die for!

I saw George Carlin on tour in 2000. He's definitely a legend, but it was interesting that, toward the end of his performance, he pulled out some notes, and said he wanted to try a new rant on us. He explained that he'd noticed that these tirades seemed to be really popular, so he was perfecting a new one, but used notes because he hadn't completely memorized it yet. Some of his attitude is just for the act. If you look at his earlier stuff, you'll see he started out looking at things in more of an unusual way (i.e., why do you park in a driveway, but drive on a parkway?). GEORGE Carlin is a GOD. Philosopher and genius comedy, loved the English language, he was a purist. start at the beginning with 7 dirty words, My Stuff and move forward. My fave is Airlines and Announcements 😂 he basically holds a mirror up to society with brilliant comedy.

I always loved George Carlin... he had no "sacred cows", sooner or later, he's going to rip on everyone. And as in all of the best comedy, it's rooted in a seed of truth even when he's reaching for the absurd extremities to illustrate it. I really miss him.

One can only imagine Carlin's take on the past couple of years, and the sheer destruction he could cause with the internet as it is now. I can't help but feel that as we lose these people who are willing to insult in the name of humor and absurdity that we are losing the few tenuous holds we have on common sense when faced with rampant political correctness and cancel culture. I can hear him saying: "They wanted to cancel me for my views not being 'correct'. Fine.. Cancel me. I'll still be right about them and and more popular. And they'll still be miserable." Great man.

Did you know that Carlin's daughter went on Twitter and reminded conservative jag-offs that her father hated religion and businessmen? Did you know Carlin once was interviewed by Larry King about Andrew "Dice" Clay and said the "Diceman" attacked underdogs i.e. women, gays, minorities, etc. Oh yeah, did you also know that the same people who gaslight about "cancel culture" are the ones who want books banned from libraries and are now calling for boycotting Disney? I'm sure you knew all of that. 🙄

George Carlin is one of the greats. He doesn't pull any punches. I wish he was still alive, would love to hear him on current happenings. I own several of of his albums and a number of his videos. I only got to see him in concert once. Was going to try to see him again with my niece, but a month later he died. He also has some books and have read them.

The George Carlin Show of the 90s was fantastic. We got it here in NZ and I was hooked on George immediately. I think it only ran for a season maybe 2 but it was great.

Well, I'm glad I made the "no-kill" list. :-D Are those new headphones or have I not been paying attention? Red Skelton is a comedian who did not use curse words if you're interested. His stuff is older, but I like it a lot. And I think George meant to say fundamentalist conservative Christians, or at least I hope so. I would consider myself a conservative Christian, and I don't think I cause problems. But maybe I'm wrong.

Sadly, comedy in the US has been destroyed, and today George Carlin would be cancelled. He was a genius at cultural observation, and an equal-opportunity insulter.
