Carrot Top is a class act. Over 20 years ago, a group of my friends would go out to see him when he came through town to do some shows. The last time I went with those friends, one was advancing towards stage 4 brain cancer. She knew she was dying and fast and wanted to go see Carrot Top one last time as a group. After the show Carrot Top was doing his usual meet and greet in the lobby and she decided that the show wasn't enough for the bucket list, she wanted a kiss. She was tired but she waited and waited for the crowd to disperse. She eventually made it to the front and I don't know how much she told him about her situation, but he didn't shoot her down. He engaged in some back and forth conversation and held her hand before the smooch. She passed at the end of that year, and talked about that kiss often until her mind gave way to dementia. I like to think she held on to that memory as her mind let go.

Which made me think, that's probably why he was in a pissy mood, because he thought everybody was ignoring him: (It has to suck being a lonely person in a crowded room). So I saw my chance when he was passing me, I said Hey George how's it going, He turned to me and said fuck if I know, everybody else seems to know more about it than me, So I guess we're both having a great day now. Why do people keep saying "so and so is so underrated", and every time they are talking about someone with an absolutely rock solid career. Carrot top has been working steady for what, over thirty years now? He's had a Vegas residency for almost 20 years. He is NOT OVER RATED, he is appreciated more than adequately for his talent.

For years I've heard murmurings about Carrot's intellect and being a savvy operator. I never rejected his work, but I stupidly never sought him out either. Which is crazy. Emo and Gallagher are two of my favorite genius practitioners of absurdism and physical comedy. CT is right there too. Im actually not that big a fan of categorizing humor genres and labeling artists. Because it's all unique and the industry needs labels and language to bring 'em in. And typecasting is real and painful for artists. I'm actually pretty jazzed about discovering more Carrot Top. Making my Sunday. Steve-o: Me and my tech brethren used to make guilty pilgrimages to see Jackass the movies. SO FUCKING GOOD. We (maybe just me, cause I admit shit) love all of youse. Big time. I'm so glad to see you alive and looking and feeling sharp. Seriously. You are a mensch of a guy in my book, despite anything the "don't get it" crowd says.

So check it out... I saw David Spade live the night before I saw Carrot Top earlier this year in the Chicago area. I was so excited for Spade for months at that point, given that the guy is a legend, and he was part of my childhood(born in 88). Awesome show, and it was really dope to get to even be in the same room with him. I left the venue really happy. Then I went to Carrot Top's show, 24 hours later. He ended up being at least three times as funny as Spade. At least. My mind was blown, and the comic world flipped upside down for me that night. Afterwards, I got to meet him, and he ended up being cool af in real life, as well as a genuinely nice guy. I've met quite a lot of famous people, and he is way up there on my list now as far as cool and non pompous dudes go with that level of fame. I became a big fan that night.
