George was lucky not to suffer the same fate then, good that they've caught him but his punishment will be too soft, people like that deserve death penalty.

Just glad a world class champion like this and his wife were ok. The psychological impact of this is bad, but at least George and his wife were not severely physically harmed. I met him once over here in Texas. Class act in my book.

so glad they caught the bastards. my condolences to the Blackman family and I hope Kate and George are coping. I can't imagine what it must be like to have a bunch of degenerate murderers break into your home and threaten your life. the death penalty would still be to light for these men.

I'm a survivor of multiple home invasions and rapes. I have to say that George is lucky to be living in Britain, where you still have police and courts. Here, in France, the police couldn't be bothered to come to the crime scene, or to abstain from destroying the evidence that was given to them.

I am glad Mr Digweed is getting on with his life after such a terrible incident. I have to say though I read the BBC article about the home invasion and them smashing there way through the french door is why I have always hated those things. a glass door on a house is just impossible to secure. At least with windows you can plant thorny bushes outside them to gamper an intruder. I favor solud core exterior doors with reinforced frames and extended latch plates. They can still be kicked in, but it will take time, time you can use to flee or to barricade yourself with a shotgun and some buckshot. Very few home invaders would want to fight their way down a hallway covered by a semi competent man armed with a 12 ga double barrel protecting his family.

I hope that this is okay. Link to BBC news www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-37507728 At least 28 years was the sentence issued. Good to see it was not a slap on the wrist but I wonder if a rope would be better.

master blob the article says 12 years concurrently mate. That means he'll serve both sentences at the same time.
@amct1019
@amct1019 6 жыл бұрын
bigp trim well your guarantee is completely incorrect. If his sentence was 28 years, you could well be right that he could be released after 14. But his sentence wasn’t 28, murder carries an automatic life sentence with a minimum term set by the judge. The robber can only be given a parole hearings after a minimum of 28 years.

Just had a similar experience I think the way you described it as a surreal experience is very apt, had a mental defective person try to beat me in the head 7 times and attacked me with a knife. Very traumatising and takes a while to get over. Find find it difficult to understand as I've never met the person before in my life.

The argument against the death sentence for 1st Degree Murder is that in the past a small number of mistakes were made and innocent people were killed. With a robust system of appeals this would be unlikely to happen today, these figures show that 3 innocent people are dying because we do not have the death sentence.Should we have a referendum to decide if it should be reintroduced?"Over 30 killers killed again after being freed from prison between 2000/1 and 2010/11, statistics show.Figures released by the Home Office show 29 people with homicide convictions went on to commit murder and six went on to commit manslaughter.Of those 29 murderers, 13 previously committed murder and 16 manslaughter."

It only needs one mistake, and that mistake to be your loved one/child/parent, for the death penalty to be a terrible idea. The US is proof that the death penalty is no deterrent at all, and if the execution is in cold blooded revenge then people who support that are arguably worse than people that murder in the heat of the moment.
@davec8381
@davec8381 8 жыл бұрын
They way that the US and Russia treat convicted murders on life sentences is far worse than execution, when prisoners in Russia had their sentences change from execution to life many committed suicide as their preferred option. It's not about revenge, the punishment should match the crime, murderers should never have the chance to kill again.

In the USA 2016 there was 32700 robberies (Not just against households). In the UK 2016 there were an estimated 6.5 million incidents of crime against households and resident adults. And the UK has a much smaller population! Its an easy career path for these criminals. The statistics say it all. You can go check them yourselves.

The level of violent crime in England and Wales continues to be appalling. This includes robberies inside and outside the home. But it adds nothing to the debate to state patent falsehoods. The law in England and Wales in early October 2012 was as below. 'What force does the law allow? In England and Wales, anyone can use "reasonable" force to protect themselves or others, or to carry out an arrest or to prevent crime. Householders are protected from prosecution as long as they act "honestly and instinctively" in the heat of the moment. "Fine judgements" over the level of force used are not expected, says the Crown Prosecution Service. What this means in practice is that someone can claim they attacked in self-defence if they genuinely believed they were in peril - even if in hindsight they were clearly wrong. Victims do not have to wait to be attacked if they are in their home and fear for themselves or others. These guidelines also apply if someone, in the spur of the moment, picks up an item to use as a weapon. The law very clearly says that a householder is not expected to weigh up the arguments for and against in the heat of the moment - but they have to show that their actions were reasonable in the moment.' www.bbc.com/news/uk-19886504

In January 2016, the High Court in England and Wales decided that homeowners have a right to use disproportionate force, thus: 'Homeowners have a right to take tough action or use “disproportionate force” if faced with an intruder in their home, the High Court has ruled. The so-called “householder defence”, as strengthened by the Coalition Government, has been declared not incompatible with European human rights laws.' www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/home-owners-can-beat-up-burglars-using-disproportionate-force-rules-high-court-a6815626.html

No Aaron he is having a laugh at you :) He has pulled those numbers completely out of his arse. In the US in 2016 there were over 125k robberies just including firearms alone, the total including knives and unarmed are over double that. The number of incidents of crime against households and resident adults (which includes everything from burglary to some flowerpots getting smashed) is about 7.5k in the UK :) Oh and you get to hit all the burglars you want over here. You don't get to kill them though, neither with a gun nor with your hands.

There is actually no proven deterent to crime. However there should be a punishment that fits a particular crime. If you take a life,not by accident,but by calculation ,then your life should be taken. If you commit rape (male or female ) then you should be neutered and do hard labour. if you steal money(who gives a shit,it's replaceable),you do hard labour for the people you stole off. It's an incredibly simple equation but we have loony fuckwits in power,with no desire for the tough remedies needed to keep us safe in OUR OWN HOMES.
