Highlights of 2 of the greatest and most devastating Heavyweights in boxing history. Big George and The Big Bear!
TikTok: / hanzagod_1
George Foreman - Is an American former professional boxer, entrepreneur, minister and author. In boxing, he was nicknamed "Big George" and competed between 1967 and 1997. He is a two-time world heavyweight champion and an Olympic gold medalist. As an entrepreneur, he is known for the George Foreman Grill. In his professional career he amassed an incredible record of 76-5 with 68 KO's.
Sonny Liston - Was an American professional boxer who competed from 1953 to 1970. A dominant contender of his era, he became the world heavyweight champion in 1962 after knocking out Floyd Patterson in the first round, repeating the knockout the following year in defense of the title; in the latter fight he also became the inaugural WBC heavyweight champion. Liston was particularly known for his toughness, formidable punching power, long reach, and intimidating appearance.

2 of the greatest and most devastating Heavyweights of all time! Sonny Liston was George Foreman's idol, they had many sparring sessions together and Foreman was once quoted in saying "Liston stood up to me and actually made me give ground. No one has ever done that to me before or since." Big George and The Big Bear! www.patreon.com/haNZAgod

I think that a lot of todays heavyweights still have that “killer instinct”. What they lack however is the will to go in the ring with someone they know can destroy them. Ali, Foreman, Liston, Frazier all those men took on absolute titans just to prove that they don’t back down from a challenge. I mean just the thrilla in Manila probably shortened both Ali’s and Frazier’s lives with atleast 10 years. If you do something like that you’re dead set on showing yourself and the world that you’re not scared of anything.

@@DeathWithinTenSteps the farther you go back into boxing, you realize how its changed from "fighting" to just sport. early 1900s boxers were animals, fighting 50-100 rounds. 5-20 fights every month. mid 1900s boxers became more "civilized", late 1900s boxing was a clear change in entertainment vs fighting, but boxers were still dogs. now early 2000s boxing is purely about entertainment and money. sad to see

These two looked like they broke something every time they landed a punch, even if it landed on their opponents' guard. They must have been some of the most physically powerful human beings of all time. These guys were knocking people out with glancing jabs that were harder than most people's power punches. Foreman winning a title at 45 years old is still one of the most significant accomplishments in sports. He retired with a record of 76-5 with 68 knockouts.

They compare who the best puncher was. Liston was more scientific so he would hit you flush with more power. Foreman's punches were more wild and would knock you off your feet Foreman's more powerful but liston would hurt you more... George was faster on his feet. Like a fast moving mummy moving around the ring that would stalk and parry you with wild punches. Liston would pick his shots and hurt you better We never saw a younger Liston...but his first fights he was quick. Not as quick as foreman but could pick his shots better and win. Both intimidating in their era. Luckily George never went down the road liston did. The skill of Jimmy young is thanked for that

Speaking hypothetically I think that Liston would have beaten Foreman in a fight. Because Foreman in his prime didn’t have the conditioning Sonny Liston had. Foreman and Liston both had incredible power but Foreman’s punches were way too wide and wild in other words he would telegraph his punches and that would do no good against Liston who had a longer reach and his punches were more precise and accurate . Foreman would just go in the ring with the goal of demolishing his opponents and getting the fight over as quickly as possible but Liston would take his time and wait for the right moment to strike. It would have been a great fight if it happened but I believe that Liston would have won by knockout.

VERY INTRIGUING match up. I assume we are talking young George here. I don't know how to call this one. They are even in about everything except I feel Sonny was more seasoned, more polished and a better defensive fighter. George a little bigger and Stronger physically. Both had telephone Jabs and the devastating power of each goes without saying. Both are mean intimidators. I really can't call this one. Put a gun to my head I may lean slightly towards Liston because in my view he is a bit less likely to unravel and keep his composure and stamina if the fight gets out of the first 3 rounds and he has better skills on the inside, defense and rolling with punches, but I don't make this pick lightly. Could go either way.
@brendanfrost2475

IDK about that strength part. Both Foreman and Liston used to take turns pushing up a wheel barrow full of '100 pounds of cement' up a long inclined hill. Foreman was only able do it 1 time. Liston was able to do it not once but 3 times. Foreman said he was in shock by Listons strength who was very much old by that time. While some may argue that was a young Foreman, Liston on the other hand was pretty old. Also, Muhammad Ali, Chuck Wepner, and George Johnson all stated that Liston hit harder than Foreman. I think Foreman's advantage is his heart. He's been shown to be able to recover after being floored.

@@brendanfrost2475 couple things about that. If you watch closely and I mean very closely at the end of the second fight Sonny Liston is definitely dizzy. When they are announcing the winner the camera is on him he goes to take a step forward and loses his balance slightly. I'm not saying that right hand was enough to knock him out because it didn't. He got up and was fighting before Walcott stopped it. I agreed there is something fishy with that fight but it does not need to be a crushing punch as much as one that you don't see. Liston was lunging with a jab and had one foot off the canvas and did not see the right hand that hit him right on the temple. I've had this debate hundreds of times. Not to mention there is always a dispute at how old Sonny Liston was. I've heard rumors that he was as old as mid-40s by that fight.

The thing is no one truly knows as their power was immensely similar not to mention how it has yet to be confirmed as to who hits harder than who so it's safe to say it's either a stalemate or a close call.

They were real monsters.however Mike Tyson impresses me more for three reasons: 1 same power with much more speed 2 tonnage: they were physically giants compared to their opponents Tyson no 3 reach Tyson had a reach of 180 cm and was very good at shortening the distance like Joe Frazier or Marciano with thedifference that could hit you hard even from medium distance.

There's always one in the comments that believes Tyson is better than Foreman and Liston. It never fails. Tyson was made perfect stylistically for both of them especially Big George.

@@msw8966 Instead for me Foreman was perfect for Iron Mike. Make the mistake of comparing Tyson to Frazier.frazier was advancing with his head back and forth, Tyson advancing compactly with the whole body, Frazier was very strong at very short distance, Tyson was very strong even from medium distance, he could strike you from a distance, look at the first right with which he KO Holmes from where it has begun. Plus Tyson changed the sagittal plane, hit from unusual angles and was more powerful and faster than Frazier. In addition to the left hook he had the combination hook to the body and uppercut to the chin with the right.

@@97iron64 Completely disagree. The fact is Big George had a much better chin then Larry Holmes and Tyson opening up I'm bored would have only encouraged towards to keep punching and hurting - eventually koing him. Cus said it himself he told Mike when he was a teenager that George Foreman style was all wrong for the peekaboo defense. Cus never dream that foreman would make a comeback. In 1990 the biggest fight in boxing history that could be made at the time was Foreman versus Tyson! Why do you think that never happened? Big George wanted it he wanted that more than anything that's why he came back he saw a man who was Taylor made for him. George Foreman is the most underrated heavyweight of all time.

@@msw8966 Cus worked on Mike's psychology and also said Foreman's head was an easy-to-hit lantern in the dark. Plus, in the 90's they didn't fight because Foreman turned down Don King's $ 5 million offer because he didn't trust Don. then also Tyson had a good chin look what he kept from Ruddock who in my opinion was almost as strong as a young Big George. Foreman in the second half of his career did not meet the strongest punches in the division. Plus when he was young Foreman went down with Jimmy Young and Ron Lyle thinks if he was hit by Mike. Holmes has an incredible chin he lost by KO only to Mike and this gives an idea of Mike's power.
