George’s amazing ability to keep shoving guys in front of him around and backwards, using brute strength as well as an excellent sense of space and timing was an important key to his success, it was almost impossible to escape this man. I still find it a very underrated feat, Tommy Morrison’s game plan in 1993 against Foreman, proving Tommy was a skilled boxer. Only saw Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield and Jimmy Young outboxing Foreman in Foreman’s almost 30 y spanning ring career, besides Tommy. But they absorbed a lot of punishment in the process.
@legend37065 ай бұрын
You should read Foreman's autobiography on the Ali fight. Lot of dirty things happened behind the scenes. Sadler gave Goerge a spiked drink of water. He tired after just three rounds and kept wondering why he was so tired. I know a lot of people don't believe it but George also writes that when he wanted a second fight with Ali, Herbert Mohammed put a condition that it would happen only if Sadler was again signed up with George.
@G.M.19445 ай бұрын
@@legend3706 I don’t buy the spiked water story, to me it was clear that Muhammad Ali got into George Foreman’s head, and the visible caused anger burned Foreman out, he threw caution and pacing to the wind 100% and went for a KO in 1 or 2 rounds. When that didn’t work out, he just got more and more angry and frustrated, burning out. So George consistently showed a patient strategy during his second career 1987-1997 and he won the greatest prize. I am not aware of the condition by Herbert for a second fight against Ali though, that’s interesting, and it could be possible, but I think in that case the only factor that would have been determining would have been Ali’s physical condition. By 1976, 1977, that would have meant taking even more punishment against George, not being able to defend and attack snake-like in years prior, with reduced speed and timing, George IMO would have had a serious chance at winning that rematch..

Foreman's tactics are soooo smart here and we don't hear enough about them. He pushes away the smaller man, the brawler, and picks him off time and time again as Joe comes in. It's very rare to see a fighter push another away so much as a tactical move and I'm surprised more bigger fighters didn't try it against the elite brawlers like Frazier, Hagler and Tyson.

I was a big Ali fan, but after I saw what he did to Norton and Frazier, I was afraid he would get knocked out by Foreman. The man was terrifying, the most dangerous puncher ever. He would have treated Tyson the same as Frazier. Agressive fighters, with less height and reach than Foreman, he would just push around and measure them up for massive shots. Ali planned on dancing when he fought Foreman, but Foreman had practiced cutting off the ring, and Ali soon realized he would run out of steam running around. So he went to the rope a dope and let Foreman punch himself out for eight rounds. How he managed to avoid taking a massive shot was incredible. Then he came off the ropes with a quick combination of shots and knocked Foreman out. It was amazing.

The first fight Frazier had with Ali took too much out of him. Frazier physically out of shape fighting Foreman. Not saying Frazier would have beaten Foreman if he was in tip top shape but at least he would have accounted himself much better against Foreman

It’s so hard to believe your eyes when watching this. Foreman doesn’t look like he’s working hard. The way he punches is surreal. The blows look so elementary. They don’t match the finished product. He’s so powerful it looks positively easy. Unreal.

Joe was a fighter he'll never quit. George was awesome. Ali,Joe, George, Tyson these four are the greatest.

I don't know if a favorite to win has ever been dominated so viciously in the history of the sport!!!

“Smokin” Joe Frazier was not going to quit that easily. Respect to both George Foreman and Joe Frazier they will always be in the history books.

Joe was no match for George. He was getting pushed around like a lightweight, and getting punched at will. Joe’s career continued after the first Ali fight, but I don’t think he was the same.

Its hard to imagine the raw power that George had. Fraizer was a man who could take a punch, but George just rocked his world. Although he lost, he punished Ali with his power too. George Foreman was a scary dude back then.

Every punch from Foreman was devastating.

When I compare Tyson and Foreman for power, Tyson's power is like being hit by a sportscar at 200mph, Foreman's power is like being hit by a tank at 100mph. You need to see Foreman on the heavy bag to see the power, it was scary to see the impact of those blows.

This is exactly what would happen in a Foreman vs Tyson bout

Foreman was past his prime when Mike entered the ring. I don't think Foreman could beat prime Tyson. But prime Foreman could destroy Tyson.

u have to remember that Joe and Mike’s fighting styles are different. It might be a totally different story if Mike and Foreman fought.

Not exactly, Tyson could move much faster, while Frazier was basically a punching bag. Also, Tyson had better technique as trained by Cus. Styles make fights and Frazier's style was perfectly suited to Foreman

It may appear one sided but I love this fight because it shows how destructive Foreman is when he was the underdog and Frazier kept getting back up like The Terminator
