George Galloway on why he voted Tory and for Nigel Farage, being anti-'woke', and Batley and Spen

Former Labour MP George Galloway is one of Britain's most controversial individuals, and is standing in Batley & Spen with the slogan 'STARMER OUT'. We talk about his pitch for the seat, including Palestine - but why he's focusing his fire on the opposition, rather than the Tory government which presided over 150,000 deaths; why he campaigned alongside Nigel Farage after denouncing him; why he campaigned for Brexit after declaring that he'd campaign for Remain like "anyone with any brain cells will be doing"; why he voted Tory after declaring he'd rather remove his eyeballs; and much else.

So let's just think about this. Galloway, opportunistic politician with roots somewhere else in the country, with an obvious agenda beyond the area, will split the vote and drop another conservative into a seat. Which will mean Labour will blame Galloway (a man who voted Tory and got into bed with Farage). OR we have an actual Labour MP who's from the area, wants to take that areas issues serious because that's her community. And you think people should vote for Galloway? We really are mugs aren't we.

Galloway does talk some sense here. If the wider left had supported the democratic Brexit outcome of the referendum Farage would have been crowded out politically, and the left supported. As it happened the Labour right led Remain movement dragged the Labour party into obscurity for years and enhanced Farages reputation as a result.

Labour entered a pact with its enemies to defy a democratic vote. It will do the same over proportional representation. The party has forgotten it was founded to provide the working class people of this country a vote, and has embraced causes that are marginal at best, and often in direct opposition to the interests of ordinary people. How is this so difficult to understand?

The Church camouflaged with virtue for over a thousand years, when in fact they were sadistic imperialists - just because someone claims to be feminist or pro-family doesn't mean it's so - even if they've convinced themselves. The major parties support the systemic mass murder of women and children, as well as mass surveillance without due process. Their claims are empty. To be fair, the phrase he replied with was "well, we'll see" - a reference to the prediction that Galloway made re Biden's administration: that it would plunge the world into nuclear war. It's also worth remembering that this was a big fear regarding Trump too, both elections. It's why Noam Chomsky advocated a vote for Hilary Clinton and a vote for Joe Biden at both elections, in spite of their politics and their reprehensible foreign policy. I think it's pretty disingenuous of Galloway to ignore or downplay the way in which Trump's diplomacy and ability to maintain international relations was a car crash waiting to happen. Whatever else is true about the risks of Clinton or Biden.

Galloway's analysis of "taking the knee" is absolutely spot on. Owen suggests that people's motivation for booing must be racism, yet as Galloway rightly points out, there could be multiple reasons for booing (including opposition to the organisation, not the statement, Black Lives Matter, opposition to the politicisation of football, etc.). Racism is certainly a problem in British society and in soccer, but booing taking of the knee is not as simple to suggest it's only racists that boo. I personally would not boo, but I do not think we should assume that all those who boo are by default, racist. Owen also suggests that there is no "organisation" BLM, again this is simply not true. There is an organisation called and marketed as "Black Lives Matter", and they have managed, very successfully, to co-opt a larger discourse around racial equality. If there was no organisation, there would be nothing to donate to, its genius is in its branding - only but the most strident of racists would oppose the statement "black lives matter". I think George in this interview, very succinctly, has gotten to the heart of the problem with some sections the left (not Owen specifically) - how they sneer at and misrepresent the views of the working class, and as a result they've stopped voting for the Labour Party. Doubling down on this strategy will render the Labour Party obsolete by the next election, as a party Labour needs to listen to these communities, address issues that will make their lives better (I'd argue that "taking the knee", while an act that may make people feel they are tackling racial bigotry, may in reality not be doing much to do so) and come up with a coherent story which engages a majority of voters - it's not enough to win over a majority of 600,000 Labour Party members, we simply will never win power that way alone.

Have to say George is spot on with everything he says. And well done to Owen for facilitating an open and fair discussion.

George is full of it.His description of Scotland & how we vote is hilarious. He came here telling everyone to vote for him to save the union & failed miserably. He said brexit would be the stupidest most economically stupid thing Britain could do till he seen how people in England were in support then jumped ship.He marched with NS for home rule in Scotland in the early 80s then jumped ship again. Its always hilarious to Scots when people take George seriously we know him up here that's why he tanked.

Owen - you'll have to get up much earlier if you want to out-manoeuvre George

He’s not trying to out manoeuvre him though, they’re having a reasoned discussion.

It's not 150,000 deaths. It's not even 128,000, as many as not the actual cause of death. Thought I'd correct Jones's bio of the video!
