@@keithwilson1554 Pete Drake played the pedal steel which is different from slide guitar. Drake worked on All Things and his sound must have inspired Harrison, but it was Clapton who showed Harrison the intricacies of using a slide.
@georgestevens1502 Жыл бұрын
Actually it was Delaney Bramlett that George asked about playing slide, and Delaney showed George what he was doing. Delaney said George picked it up from the get go. Clapton and Harrison were both touring with Delaney and Bonnie at the time. Previously, Duane Allman had also played with Delaney and Bonnie. George's slide tone always seemed greatly informed by his study of the sitar. To me he blended the electric slide with the timbre of the sitar. I've never thought of his slide tone as "thin." For the sources on George learning slide from Delaney see page 51 of the Feb 2020 Guitar Player cover story on George by chief editor Chris Scapelliti, which also cites Simon Leng's bio of George, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, where Delaney related how quickly George took to the slide. So it wasn't Clapton who showed George the slide, it was Delaney Bramlett. Scapelliti also has an excellent cover story on Clapton in the July 2020 issue of Guitar Player that goes over Eric's post Cream/Blind Faith period when he cut Derek and the Dominoes and then worked on a Delaney and Bonnie album, also touring with them. George asked to join that tour and there are KZbin videos from that tour.

They certainly had more depth than most of Paul's songs. Unfortunately John's solo career was short-lived. His Walls and Bridges, Imagine and the John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band albums are fabulous albums. Mind Games has it's highlights but is inconsistent. Some Time In New York City was a disappointment though.

I think George was the underrated Beatle. His songs that he wrote with the group are some of my favorites ("Taxman", "Within You Without You", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Here Comes the Sun" & "Something"). He was a great songwriter & had many hits when he went solo. Also love when he was part of the supergroup "The Traveling Wilburys" with Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan & Tom Petty. Very talented man who left us too soon. At least we have the legacy of his music.

Anyone wanting to know more about George and who he was should read Eric Idle's biography. He was great friends with George, and George was a huge supporter of Monty Python. He actually helped fund "Life of Brian". George was very focused on the Divine. I think for him asking to be "free from birth" would mean an eternal communion with the Divine which seems to have been all he'd ever wanted. Surely everyone who knew him and loved him will miss him forever. But George? George is right where he wants to be.

George was a film producer. His company, Handmade Films, was one of the most notable independent film houses in the 70's and 80's. Also, George was a Hindu and believed that through enlightenment he could free himself from the cycle of birth/death/rebirth. He was a true seeker.

George was, I think, the most complex personality of the four. He was the spiritual one-who was also into fast cars, and specifically Formula 1 racing. The one who embraced peace-who once punched someone in a hospital where his mother was because they weren't taking proper care of her. And he could write biting sarcasm in songs like Lennon, but with a more deft touch.

Harri, you are just so bright and beautiful. Your comment about Karma is an interesting one. Of course George Harrison did not "deserve" cancer, however, that is the natural consequence for a lifetime smoker. It's a trade-off. We are looking from the outside in making the ultimate "Karmic decision" about someone we don't know based on our own truth and experiences as a human being. Whatever he and his family went through during that time brought lessons that could not be learned in any other way. Translating that to our own lives we always need to ask ourselves though the good and the bad "what lessons should I be learning to move my life and others lives around me forward". George needed to go through that to move his son's life Dhani perpetually forward in positive ways for others, in ways unknown to outsiders. Karma is only for us to use to learn life lessons to better ourselves. We cannot judge Karma by how it looks to us on the outside because we dont know the ultimate lesson and outcome on the other side of a seemingly negative event. Thank you for bringing up something that gives my mind fuel and energy for deep thinking. Music is what brings us ultimately together. You are awesome. Love your channel, thanks for sharing with the world.

Very insightful commentary. Just for a little more info, George had already had cancer and was doing well when he was attacked in his home. His wife, Olivia, and his son, Dhani both believe the knife attack was too much for George in his already weakened state and that’s what ultimately caused the cancer to come back and kill him. Overall, though, he had a beautiful outlook on life and many, many friends and family who loved him. He seems to have been more at peace with his impending death than most people are.
