No. He was wrong. In fact it was almost the pot calling the kettle black. What were the Beatles if not a better quality boy band? If it wasn’t for George Martin they would’ve been forgotten. As far as U2, they were an alternative pop/rock when they came out. They were not popular in the main stream until later. People can disagree with what I say about the Beatles, but I don’t think what I say about U2 is even open for discussion. I was there, and they were not aiming to be part of the “in crowd“. I didn’t think they were that good after their first album but they were hardly what I call a bunch of sellouts.
@71fluffdaddy

Beatles would’ve been forgotten without George Martin? Are you out of your mind? George Martin had little in the thought making process of making music even Paul McCartney stated this. As far as U2 there was no term alternative rock band when they came out they were simply a Rock Band and they were good and got progressively better as the years went on making great albums. Does Bono have an ego? Absolutely he stated that they are now the Greatest Rock Band on a live tv awards show. 🤦‍♂️ on the Beatles thing.

I loved U2 when i was at Manhattan College as a native NYer (& MC is in a mostly Irish area). So like everyone at school, we went to see them 3x & slept out all night for tickets. After the gig, we waited all night & some met Bono & some of us met The Edge at different concerts. *The Edge just stopped jumped out of his car (Groupie drinking a Beer in the back of the limo) & signed autographs & left quick. *Bono on the other hand, at 2am, had the giant garage door open up at the end of the slanted platform where the equipment goes down, suddenly walked up out of nowhere & appeared in the middle of the huge garage entrance way, & slowly walked up the incline to the top, like the G*d we thought (& he was convinced) he was. Very dramatic. So when i told my very ethnic Irish uncles i went, they were horrified & all my Uncle Butch could say was: "And what the hell does Bono know about Billie Holiday, anyway?" I didn't have an answer then...but I get it now.

‘Pint sized rocker’ as the press liked to refer to him (Bonio) could only ever dream of George’s genuine authenticity and love.

I would fall on George's side of the board. Two things Harrison said, " The Beatles had a value that will last forever, " and even more prescient, " The Beatles will exist without us. " Sixty years later and they're still getting new fans. Take that, U2.

And didn’t U2 copy the Beatles last live performance that they did on the roof of Abbey Road studios by doing a show on a roof top in Los Angeles?

You're right 10 years prior to George's comment for the video for 'Where the Streets Have no Name' (Joshua Tree) in '87, L.A.

@@steveprobert4609 a blatant copy by Bono. I still find the Joshua Tree a great piece of art. With the amazing production work of Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno
