Love this album. So underrated and so soulful. Classic GH.

Another great review James. This was the first Harrison solo album I owned as a kid and I remember how much my Mom loved "Crackerbox Palace" - it was her favorite George Harrison song. Such great memories of this and it was on our family turntable a LOT haha. My Mom always got her way haha. Of course as a kid I didn't appreciate the album like I do now, I was just happy I got to put it on hehe. I agree with your rating and your comments. Maybe I'd put it slightly higher than you did simply for nostalgia I think. Take care and awesome to watch this

Thank you so much mate. Pleased you enjoyed the video :) yer I understand what you mean there. Thee are some albums which I hold to a higher standard just because of sentimental reasons. This is a great first album for anyone from George and crackerpox palace is easily the best so your mom has awesome taste :) thanks again mate and take care :)

Rockboy680, you're a man to my own heart, I have the same opinion about this album tenfold. I really enjoy your reviews and just subscribed to your channel. I dont know if you've done it already, do Beatle movie reviews.

I like both of your channels and this review. I caught on to your channels from VC James. Started watching him when he reviewed some of my favorites: Paul Weller, The Jam, Richard Hawley, Queen... He kept name dropping you and so I checked out your channel and subscribed (even with your misguided ranking order of Adam Sandler films - haha)... Wonder how someone into music of your generation responds to The Smiths or Pulp? Both are very English but very high artistic quality. Would love for you to listen to, absorb and then review something like this that may be less familiar.. purely for curiousity's sake.

Thanks mate :) yer the other James here in the VC is great. Pleased you could find my channel :) I'll have to check out these artists you have mentioned and get back to you when I do mate. Thanks again and take care

Good review. I've always liked this album since it was first released (3-4 years after I really got heavily into all things Beatle). The scoring system you have (like Ross Goodall) is a good concept as it makes the scoring total overall a little more objective.But I think that by doing so, there a couple of key elements which are not being considered that are very important & it would be good to include these as additions to just working on the song scoring:* Overall album experience. I.E. How well does the album hold together/flow after a full listen (rate out of 10);* Cover art/packaging (rate out of 10);* Production quality sound of the album as a whole (rate out of 10);* Repeat playability. I.E. How often do you feel like playing this album compared to other albums in a one year period? This is probably the hardest to grade, but it is definitely a measure of how the album 'stacks up'.All the bestGaz (Melbourne/Australia)

Thanks mate :) pleased you like the new scoring system. Been doing something similar on my movie channel for a while and thought I'd bring it over here on this channel. That's a good throw there and maybe I should include the vinyl record itself on the scoring as I do love the album cover to this so I think that would maybe bring it up to a 6.5. Thanks again mate and take care

Thought I would let you know mate that with my new review on Phil Collins I have taken your advice as I agree that the artwork and how the songs flow to the next is very important so I have included that in my new video :) wanted to say thanks for recommending that I do that. Thanks and take care

Good review James. I bought a vinyl copy last year in a great second hand record shop in Sweden. I like the album but George's best is his self titled 'George Harrison'. Just my opinion of course!!
@rockboy6809 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate :) yer I must say his self titled album is better than this album but I do feel that my favourite album by George is like most people's and I'd have to say all things must pass. That album just does everything for me :) lol take care mate

Hi mate. Great review, bit suspicuious how your idea for scoring each song comes a few weeks after I started doing it. :) I'm only joking, after all when I started I basically copied your format. Anyway mostly agree with you on this review. Using my scoring system it would be 67% so only average but one of georges better ones. Take care mate.

Hi mate. Haha omg what bad timing. Lol. Sorry mate I didn't even realise you started doing that as well. Been thinking of doing this scoring system for a long time and then one of my school mates recommended I do it so I thought I'd go with it. Lol. Anyway pleased to hear we are not to far of with our opinions on this album. I'll have to head over to your channel and catch up on your reviews I've missed. Been really busy lately but I should be back watching and commenting now mate :) take care

+rockboy680 Yeah I understand, its all cool, just one of these weird coincidences. I've not been making videos as requlary as I used to since i've also been busy with work.

Yer good point. Being honest neither of us invented the idea though as many people use this format so it's all good ;)

Very good review. I agree with most of it, except I happen to like "See Yourself". I'll have to check what you're referring to regarding "Beautiful Girl" on vinyl not sounding as good.

I enjoyed hearing your opinions and ratings of this album.. -6.3 seems fair to me.. It also was a nice touch to show the preceding, and the follow-up records the way you did.. I agree about "True Love" being one of the weak points on the album, mainly because he's covering an old song that he didn't write, and it's out of his vocal range - but it was a nice try... I think the main reason for 33&1/3's relatively poor chart performance had to do more with people's disappointment with his recent records, which prevented some former fans from buying it...Take care.
@rockboy6809 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate :) didn't realise that true love was a cover so thank you for letting me know about that mate and yes I also agree that the reason it didn't chat to well had to be because of his two previous albums which is quite understandable but still disco pointing for this album. Take care mate

The most well known version of "True Love" is sung by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly in the 50's film "High Society" and it definitely is not rockn'roll... It is much slower than George's cover on 33&1/3. ...George was being somewhat ahead of his time by singing a standard from the so-called "Great American Songbook", although other artists, (Ringo's "Sentimental Journey" record) had done it, but it still was not very common, or hip in 1976..
@rockboy6809 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. I'll have to go check these versions out so I have something to compare to. Looking forward to checking them out now :) haha. Thanks again mate and take care

+Thomas Calden "High Society" is a great movie though not as good as "The Philadelphia Story," which it's a remake of. But it's still great and any movie with Grace Kelly is worth watching.

personally i think you were very harsh on this album with a 6.3. i think i would give this one about an 8.5. while it isn’t excellent all the way through, the low points still aren’t that low.

I have a german copy of this album, the only real difference is the cover. The title on the front doesn't have the texture in the letters and the inner sleeve isn't silver but an off color and more like paper than the laminated one in the US and probably the UK copies. I like your rating system, its pretty fair.

Thanks mate :) pleased to hear you like the new scoring system. Sounds like you have a cool copy of that record there mate :) take car
