The good lord blessed us with George Jones, I listen to a lot of country, I always wind right back here listening to him. So grateful we can still watch him on KZbin. He was a gift from heaven.

This was the first song I ever heard by George, and after listening to hundreds now, it is still one of the best.

He was so good you wonder how only one singer in the world could ever be blessed with so much talent.
@beemerscoot88512 жыл бұрын
Sometimes my mind asks why the good lord saw fit to only give us one George Jones. Then I realize he didn’t have to give us one, and I stop thinking that way.

Possum inhabited a song better than anyone in Country music. A hundred years from now, he will still be the standard by which all others are measured.

I honestly think this is his best song. I cry every time he sings it.
@tumbleweed57626 күн бұрын
Hi @annalbin ~ What a song huh? This was when he was going through his break up with Tammy. In 1975 . You can see all the pain in his eyes.

george is so immersed in this performance that to witness his profound vulnerability feels almost like a violation of his privacy. "where freckles just don't disappear /and pigtails never rust" - only george can elevate the bathos of this lyric to the sublime. peerless.
@67plymouth4406 жыл бұрын
I am not even sure sublime is adjective enough, I really believe GOD gave him that voice for a reason.

Difficult to understand that this song was not a chart topper. Just love this song. His voice is at its best for that time in his life.
@atfourothirtythree6 жыл бұрын
karen barnett Also what is hard to understand is why only 24 thousand views? Should be 24 million at least. New "no talent" artist are pushing the billion mark while so many haven't ever heard of George Jones. What a shame!
@disdonc60123 жыл бұрын
I guess it's too slow and deep for a chart topper.

@disdonc6012 so was he stopped loving her today. Even George thought it wouldn't amount to anything calling it a morbid SOB But yes this song is amazing bc George sings it with so much feeling
@67plymouth4405 жыл бұрын
I think this song evokes wayback memories in all of us 50's and 60's guys and dolls. With out a doubt, a genuine tear jerker performed by GEORGE with seemingly little effort.
@lydiadiebel26009 жыл бұрын
You can see that musicians behind him know that this was a great performance. For all George's greatness -- and he was the absolute best in any genre -- he was a very variable performer. I saw great concerts and I saw lousy ones. This one, though, is surely among the best. Brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for posting it.

Yeah, George could get sloppy sometimes; I think having to sing the same songs thousands of times would make you that way. But when he was feeling it, it sure sounded good. You should look up George's full concert in Louisiana in 1983.

yes every night depending on his mood almost every song would be different and Amazing, a one off never to be seen or heard again, we were blessed to have lived in his time

remarkable how this genius can sing and never ever go off key...I bought this album back then in 1975, the range in his voice is clearly demonstrated in this album especially with the song "What I Do Best" & "I Just Don't Give A Damn" the whole damn album was great!

What’s with that crazy one looking around the other boys all the time. He acts like he’s in charge and telling them what to do. I don’t think he lasted to long.
@dickhead92145 жыл бұрын
I personally think the studio version of this song lacks the punch this performance has, it's all in the phrasing of his words and the emotive, plaintive backing shuffle of his band.
@ptothej1005 жыл бұрын
I agree. I think this song has to be played live, in order to communicate the emotion. I'm amazed at the ability of the band and george, to perform this song so slow and soft. Timing is everything and this is a masterpiece.

ptothej100 couldn’t have been more spot on!
@beemerscoot88519 ай бұрын
George could always walk out on a stage and perform better than in the studio. I think the producers held him back in the studio.
