In one additional comment, not only was this Knudson's finest putting performance, it was the only time it could be referred to as putting!! His other putting performances in televised matches were so miserable that they totally undermined his tee to green artistry. That he won eight times on tour is a testament to his shotmaking brilliance. The more George Knudson videos of any kind, the better!!

Well said Donald. A question I ponder from time to time is just how many wins George would have had with even half-decent putting?

It's so wonderful to see the players using long irons for their approach shots into a par 4 green. We don't see that anymore in the modern professional game. It's all Driver - Wedge now. Great upload.

Great comment. It's a totally different game now. Cheers

Very true! I lay the complete blame on the USGA. They let the ball and equipment get to a ridiculous point . Playing some of the same courses, some modern pros are hitting the ball the ball 30 to 40 yards farther than Jack Nicklaus. They should be ashamed.

Ashamed of what?

Yep…sadly the only long irons are now played into par 5s nowadays

Yeah my longest iron is a 6-iron the rest are all hybrids😃

i watched this series every sunday when i was a small kid. there are so few of these that are watchable any more. thank you for putting this on the net. it was a unique series because they literally played courses from all over the world. i'm always amazed at how much slower the greens were back then. now, the technology of the clubs and balls used overpower classic courses like this one. a shame. again, my thanks for making this match available to us. be well.

that 3 iron shot at 7:25 was absolute butter. (Edit: had tee shot yards initially but was corrected)

I worked for Mr. Leonard at the Desert Island CC in Rancho Mirage, CA in 1975 and 1976. I remember him as a nice man who demanded a good work ethic and great customer service. I really didn't know about his achievements, but he did help me with my golf. It's been interesting, over the years, to learn more about his career. Thank you for posting this video.

Really admire your channel and content. I notice Performance Golf personalities keep name dropping George Knudson and Moe Norman trying to link their sales pitches to these legends. Not very convinced by PG's authenticity but I'm sure Knudson and Norman would enjoy watching your channel and the authenticity of it's content. Keep up the good work.

To comment further, Knudson played the par fives in five under par!! This is a perfect example of what an artist the sweet swinging Canadian was. George Knudson's swing had to be top five all time. And he was an even greater striker of the ball. Like Hogan, Knudson was calable of incredibke rounds when the blade cooperated.

Thought I'd seen them all, but wow was i wrong! Saved for multiple views for friends. Hitting 2 irons, 4 woods etc...did they ever show or comment on the balls being used other than they were the American size? I also liked lumber video!

Much like Ben Hogan in the Shells World of golf matchup with his great rival Sam Snead. Knudson was his usual phenomenal self from tee to green. Only this time, he renembered his putter!! Had Knudson been even a decent putter, he would have been an all time great. This match shows how incredible he could have been with all facets working. YES, HE WAS THAT GREAT A BALL STRIKER. Its a treat to watch this artist at work. Bravo, Trevor Stymie!!
