Regardless what George Lucas says publicly about his friend Bob Iger, we need to keep it respectful. He still is the man who created this entire galaxy, and we cannot forget that or be vulgar to him. George always has a reason behind the things he says, and the things he does, I trust him, and maybe he's being a little political, while telling Bob Iger his true thoughts behind closed doors (I hope).
That said, I would have loved for him to vocally say that Disney has taken Star Wars in another direction, however, it wasn't about Star Wars, it was about Disney's operation of, well, Disney.

I am honestly not surprised by Lucas' comments. At this stage he is just spending time with his family, he is checked out, and probably not in the mood to break any eggs. He just wants to enjoy his retirement in peace, and his Disney investment to continue paying off. Who knows what he actually believes when it comes to Star Wars, I really doubt he likes the state in which it is at, this particular response really has nothing to do with that.

Whats most egregious about what George said is his statement about how "creating magic is not for amateurs". That was a deliberate statement, and a hypocritical one since George himself was so firmly against Hollywood when he made Star Wars. I mean he literally called Disney white slavers for God sake. Regardless if he himself or some intern wrote that statement, George still owns it since its in his name. He absolutely sold out to Disney in that statement, and its honestly just really devastating to hear him defebd Bob Iger after what his leadership has brought. He's been silent on Disneys handling of Star Wars for years now. This was his chance to make a public statement, especially with Peltz's challenge to the board. At the very least he couldve just not said anything, I cant imagine beung silent would've been a bad option. George Lucas at this point probably doesn't give a shit about this whole situation anymore. So him backing his friend of many years, the person who helped build disney animation and Pixar is obviously a no brainer. Of course he's going to back him. From George's perspective he got to make half of his vision before fans turned on him, that combined with no family time is what got him to sell. Now those same fans, and new are doing the same thing to Disney. It's not about whether you think the films are good or bad, whst your opinion on George is, it doesn't matter. I kind of doubt it given the fact I actually see very little remnants of the supposed mass hatred of the prequels, people were still going hard for star wars of the time and while there were certainly more bad reviews by comparison to the originals, there’s far less that I could find of people genuinely hating it. Just people saying the hate was there. Compared to the sequels, where people have not only talked at length about their issues and it’s extremely easy to find the dislike or hate of the new stuff. There’s also that I’m not sure I’ve ever met anyone that actually hated the prequels (who wouldn’t dislike star wars already) but totally have those who do the sequels.

He was an ammuture to those major studios because he didn't believe in what they did. Thankfully Alan Ladd Jr. and Fox were willing to give him a shot after the success of American Graffiti and the rest is history.

@@niiiiiko I wouldn't say Lucas knew entirely what he was doing because he was working on a film that had production issues, rewrites, and other problems that influenced the production. It's been said that Lucas had plenty of people come to him bothered about things like the very corny dialogue and the bad cut of the film. Lucas said that he inclined himself to listen so that he could address these things. People like Marcia Lucas (his wife), Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill had made suggestions to steer the film in a better direction and it paid off for the first three movies. The prequels on the other hand didn't work out because no one wanted to challenge Lucas because "hEY He wAs thE GEniUs thAt MaDe the star wars movies." And that's why we are here.

Young Indiana Jones was NOT about time travel. It told the story of Indy as a child, a young man, and an old man. Child Indy was on a round the world trip with his parents. Young man Indy served with the Belgian army during WW1, and Old Indy occasionally gave us a modern perspective on his adventures. He met many important leaders, artists, and scientists of the early twentieth century in the course of his adventures. It was an excellent show, and I loved it. I think you might be thinking about Voyagers, which was a completely different show about a kid traveling through time with an adult who had a device that looked like a compass.

What's messed up is Marvel kept Stan Lee as an executive producer when they sold out to Disney. They could've done the same with George. George didn't want to "sell out", he wanted to keep the story going and, all things considered, should have been given executive control when the franchise sold. My opinion/theory, they didn't have confidence in him after the prequels. That's why the sequels were pushing so hard to exclude prequel material. Basically, Star Wars is 1-6 whether people like it or not and he sold off to people that only wanted 4-6.

i think Lucas told Iger in no uncertain terms, but in his own subtle way, that "I told you so" you know. And I think he holds him to the fact that had they gone with George's own trilogy, they would have had greater success. In fact, I think that the way Disney tell a story, particularly how someone like J. J. Abrams, does it, George's original story would have been great to see from them. Because this is what is missing in Disney star wars. They have all the decorations, but no christmas tree in the middle. The core, that which makes it a good Star Wars film, being the story, should have been the one George intended it to be. But Iger didn't have the balls to go with the themes and the idea that George had come up with. The consequences are irrevertable, which is something I will never forgive Disney for, namely that we will never know what George Lucas intended his story to evolve into. . .

The problem with Star Wars is quite simple when you really think about it; They were originally never meant to be kids' movies. Burned skeletons, chopped off arms, choking people to death, slavery, galactic politics, etc. The more child appealing focus only came later after the success of the original, pretty much starting with Episode One. It was only after that, that George decided to go more 'kid-friendly'. But Star Wars is not a franchise that can be both. So when it was sold to Disney, it went full child/family-friendly. Which is fine if that's what they want to do, but you're going to lose a significant amount of fans not interested in pg-13. You won't see characters like HK-47 in the Disney Star Wars. You'll just see the usual moustache-twirling villains that are just evil to be evil because they don't want to 'confuse' the younger audience with stuff like personalities, reasons and reasonings that may even be understandable due to their histories. That's far too complex. Hence in all the new movies, the villains are just one-dimensional characters with no backstories. Mostly fine for kids just interested in lasers and explosions, not so much for people actually invested in the story. I personally can't even watch the new movies, none of the villains are a threat. You know from the beginning they're just there to act like aholes and get shot or something in the end. That's not interesting in the slightest to me. Anakin became Darth Vader because he wanted the power to save his loved ones. But by joining the Sith to get that power, he actually killed the one he loved the most. That's a good story. That makes the guy interesting. In contrast (for example); Captain Phasma. It's a woman, judging by her voice. She works for the New Order. The end. NOT interesting! There's villains in actual action movies with more character than that! Why is she in that position? Why does she hate deserters so much? etc, etc. To me, there's multiple kinds of Star Wars fans. The fans of the originals, the fans of the prequels, the fans of the new ones, and the weirdos that like all of them equally. I don't think there's anything wrong with wishing George didn't take the Disney path.

Long story short George chose profit over honesty and integrity. The decline of Star Wars is a result of a "i owe you one" between George and Bob which resulted in the purchase of Star Wars IP. George's recent supportive comments of Bob also has to do with George's wife and where she works and how that plays into things, keep that in mind.

@@tempestvenator9809no, the fandom is in fact NOT killing Star Wars. The actual truth of the matter is that 'RlackBock' (B and R reversed) is paying Disney and other companies to make bad content through their esg system, and that is what is killing the series.
@Ytomany
@Ytomany Ай бұрын
@@tempestvenator9809Uh yeah i think its mostly due to star wars having such an insanely broad audience it causes these wildly different opinions to form, the prequels do have problems and its right for people to point the out, but at the same time some people like redlettermedia hate those movies just because they arent the original movies, because star wars is those og movies to them. At the same time to someone like me star wars is the prequels, its kotor its a bunch of other things i grew up with. star wars always is re identifying itself which is great but that comes with people who dont want change to complaining its sad but it is the duty of the people in charge to sift through the bull and real complaints and that gets tiring so George sold people that complain about that are just kinda self losers that cant look past themselves to how someone else might feel. Bro did his job dealt with the bull gave me great star wars for years upon years and then retired, it sucks balls now because its not a clear vision made by people who dont understand the brand and just retread old ground over and over to make it seem like star wars, its sad but I am not angry at George about that.

GL is just trying to make sure that Iger stays in. The reason is that when Chapek took over the stock tanked down to 50. Iger got it back up in the 90s. GL just wants to protect his stock, so he doesn't want to rock the boat right now. GL's 100% incorrect, b/c under Iger the stock didn't even keep pace with the S&P, & Peltz can turn the company around. Other similar companies(Warner, Netflix, etc.) were doing $30 bil a year @ 20% margins, Disney's done $50 bil, @6% margins which is abysmally bad. It has nothing to do with liking the direction of the content. Keep up the good work.

I agree there is a financial incentive but I also think it’s a personality thing. Lucas doesn’t give me the impression that he likes to rock the boat or be confrontational in public. I have often contrasted his approach to another great director who also sold his franchise, John Carpenter. He has never held back on his thoughts on the direction Halloween has taken. That’s a very personality aspect to him. It’s also the case that he doesn’t have strong if any financial ties to the franchise anymore like Lucas has.
