Luke was the classic hero archetype saving the damsel in distress and battling the ultimate evil. He is such a relatable character because he is the every-man like they said. The every-man doesn’t see himself as the type that gives up and they are inspired by their heroes to keep going no matter the odds. Rian Johnson must have gotten the Green Goblin quote in his mind that “The one thing they love more than a hero is to see a hero fail, fall, die trying.” The original novelization of Star Wars included the subtitle “From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker.” It was always about Luke. You don’t build the character up to this heroic height over the course of three movies just to have him repeat the mistakes of his mentors and become a washed up and suicidal hermit. The Star Wars Trilogy already had its Obi-Wan character.

I used to watch this DVD every day back in 2004-2005. Also, the bonus DVD of Lord of the Rings was spectacular. Couldn't believe 20 years later, all these franchises are being burn to the ground by greedy corporations. Just what Lucas and Jackson back in the day warned us about.

Hi Theory. A little random but just wanted you to know that your channel, your videos, your work, and you mean a lot to me and many other Star Wars fans out there. Throughout my life I have always loved Star Wars and sought out every fragment of Star Wars content I could find, but when there was none left where do we go, and that’s where you come in, you have been there along the way keeping the fans together and motivated, dedicated, inspired. For years. And not only that but also accompanying many many of us throughout all our many hardships providing distractions in the form of your videos, in the form of entertainment, which also brought a sense of comfort with it as well as a sense of an accepting community and belonging. Ultimately helping us get through our own lives and keeping on fighting with inspiration and hope. Please keep doing what you’re doing, and keep getting inspired and be inspiring to us all. Keep writing and making your own Star Wars fan films. You have talent. Follow your dreams. And never stop believing or let go of hope, for the force will always be with you, guiding you along the way.

Listening to George describe the philosophy and inspiration for SW...you really have to wonder if the Disney team ever went back and watched any of these and fully understood the vision or mythological motifs that were the foundation of George's universe. The original trilogy storyline holds up so well because it's all about the hero's journey, relationships, family etc. None of that was present in the sequels. They had an opportunity to explore Kylo Ren / Ben Solo's relationship with his parents, his grandfather and uncle...yet they just used them as cheap props and threw them all away carelessly.

Great watching this. Takes me back. I was there at The Mann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood with my dad. After watching the first trilogy it felt like George was Building the World of Star Wars. My Mom joined me on the prequel trilogy run. By The prequels, George was expanding that world. My wife joined me on the sequel trilogy run. The sequel trilogy never seemed like it was connected to the other six. "But that's my opinion". It seemed like it was trying to tear down the world that had been built all those years ago. "FOR GET THE PAST. KILL IT IF YOU HAVE TO". (KYLO REN). Maybe these movies were not for me. and that's fine. I had 6 of the best movies and a animated show that is still bring the six closer to together. Mando feels like Old Star Wars and so did Rouge one. Thats why I like them. Thanks to Dave Filoni. It feels like we still have George at the reins of some things. and if somethings are all I get from now on so be it. I'm here with "New Star Wars" till Dave isn't. Thanks Theory.

a lot of people seem to use that kylo quote as a representation for the "goal" of the sequels, but kylo ren is the main antagonist of that movie; the audience is supposed to disagree with him. and seeing as many people dislike that quote from him, i think that means he fulfilled his purpose pretty well, at least in terms of his ideals.

@@owentsao4860 You are right that we the the audience are suppose to disagree. The very line Manifested in to reality. By the conclusion of the films. Some fans don't like the prequels, and I completely understand why. The Original trilogy is there's. I loved them both. Nether were perfect. But both made it easy to make the heart connection to them. Some fans love the sequel trilogy. Those are theres and yours. But they are not mine. Or a lot of other fans. Thats fine; they were not meant for me. Filoni and Favreau are making content meant for me. And I hope for you.

Just occurred to me how Han not only completes his arc by returning (solidifying the theme of compassion, and refuting Owen's outlook) and obviously completes the dramatic reversal, but he is also genuinely pleased for Luke, and patting Chewie with joy.

Leia's "Nerf Herder" line baffled me as a child when watching on a well worn out VHS recording, because I always heard it as "Nerve Hurter." I always thought, what a silly line. It wasn't until much later with DVD & subtitles that I read what she actually said, and then thought "Oh. But why not choose a different word than Nerf so that there would be no confusion?"

I surmised that the Sister/Brother twin thing was only worked into "Return of the Jedi" storyline, because I thought that at the time they were doing "A New Hope", they haven't quite figured out the relationship dynamics between Luke and Leia, and still displayed the push-mi pull-you dynamics of a love triangle between Pirate, Farm Boy, and Princess and played around with it a bit for the comedy of the "Empire Strikes Back" Movie which "sort of" continued on through most of the third movie until we get to the part of the Ewok village meeting before the final showdown with Vader that the truth of Luke and Leia's relationship gets to the confirmed explanation that they are brother and sister; I have always wondered about this from the many times I have watched the original trilogy since before the Silver Screen release of "Episode 1: The Phantom Menace".

George: Luke is an every-man. Relatable by *everyone*. Everyone else also has a purpose and is relatable. (nobody complains about it even now) Disney: Rey is a hero that "everyone" can look up to like Luke is. She will inspire women to be able to do anything just like she can by not trying. (complaints from day 1) Please ignore how we had no plan beyond your bank account and banked on nostalgia. Please keep giving us money as we make you fight each other by reacting to the criticism in a highly unprofessional way (which people are fine with?!), freely admit we screwed over George (and yet people still defend them?), and keep pandering to you. Thanks! The contrast is just crazy. It's no wonder why people who are both fans and your average movie watcher hate the sequels and in a lot of cases are done with Star Wars. Good ideas that they completely screwed up because they didn't understand the intricacies of the original six.

Luke Skywalker was the heart of Star Wars. When he led his fully established Jedi Order in the retaking of Coruscant and the Jedi Temple, in Fate of the Jedi, it was the culmination of an amazing 40-year journey that I was fortunate enough to enjoy. That journey ended for me in December 2017. But I’ve been really enjoying experiencing the Expanded Universe again, ever since.
