+patrik streng Those who hate him - are not "people". There are too few of those. They just strive to feel themselves meaningful. The major amount of viewers - either do not know who he is - or adore his films. But they are either not heard or silent. I'm very sorry that Lucas really wasn't paying attention to a numerous fan-films based on his Universe. and instead - thought that those few blaming him - had more value... He newer should give his rights to Disney on those terms were they will not listen to him. He is a strange guy. His logic concerning this eludes me. But he knows better, i guess... But The Force awakens - i think is not as good as the previous 6 films.

George Lucas is one of the most "human" film directors I know. Ironically enough, his career had no gloss, no filter ... he just pursued his goals. Say what you want about the guy, but to this day, his successes, and his mistakes are his own. Personally, I just wished he had accounted for public perception a bit more. I also wish more movies are made the way Lucasfilms used to make them, with no interference from movie commitees and lobbies. Thank you, George !

That would explain the disconnect from the fanbase. But, even more so, something happened between the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy that he stopped asking his friends for help in making his movie. I think it's answered best when you know how often George was on set during Empire and Jedi to make comments about everything. Even though he hired all these people to work on his film for him, he couldn't stand the idea of someone else doing his pet project. However, it was his friends who helped get the movie the way it needed to be to be successful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXewqoCugr53hM0 Does this mean George isn't as good as we think he is in regards to making movies? No. He's a great producer. But, I think that that's the role he should have been in for all his movies to work out right. He should hire people he knows will do a great job, tell them what he wants, then let them go off and do it.

The guy is a complete fraud. It's one of the biggest coverups in the movie industry to this day. His ex-wife Marcia Lucas saved Star Wars with her "actual" world class editing skills and received an Oscar for it. He didn't win one. Did he write Star Wars all on his own? Fuck no. Joseph fucking Campbell gave the guy notes on the hero's journey. Plus all the other "tips" his friends gave him so the movies wouldn't suck ass. Still don't believe me? They shoved his ass off directing Empire Strikes Back because they knew what a mediocre director he was. Irvin Kershner directed Empire, and get this... There are unconfirmed reports that Marcia Lucas did some editing for Empire, and she WAS credited on Return of the Jedi! Once he "made it big" the guy magically forgot that the team around him was what made the original Star Wars so good. Did he try to hold them together? Of course not. Maybe that wasn't all his fault, but I don't know it's like the guy didn't realize he needed them... A LOT. Or it's more likely that he wanted rid of them and didn't realize just how shocking his own work would be but we sure as hell saw it. The special editions are just like the prequels. Both suck ass an all reek of him.

He's 79 years old, but I'm hoping he'll wake up one day and say "Gee, you know, today's a good day to make one of those smaller, more personal films I've been saying I wanted to make." It was a dumb move, but at least they learned the lesson from it. In 1982, when Steven Spielberg was looking for a studio to distribute his movie E.T., he first approached Columbia and was rejected. Columbia thought that no one would pay money to see a movie that dumb. Spielberg then approached Universal, and they distributed the film, which was the biggest box office hit since Star Wars. You can bet somebody's head rolled at Columbia Studios.

What's amazing is that Lucas had little interest in science fiction films when he was young. Everything for him was cars, hot rods, race tracks, which is why he made American Graphitti, and is also why he we see the pod races in The Phantom Menace.

They wanted Lord of the Rings. He offered them both that and the Silmarillion he hit the ceiling when they rejected Silmarillion and said no on selling Rings. Later on he relented and messaged them back George Allen and Unwin to at least publish LOTR. The Hobbit was a very good seller for them, they wanted a direct sequel to sell not an epic story for adults that took years for Tolkien to finish. The reason any of it was published in his lifetime was because Rayner Unwin was a devotee of Tolkien.

Take a look at THX 1138, by George Lucas. Great visuals, solid story line, a precursor to Star Wars. Maybe George is lacking now, but his previous efforts were by and by amazing for it's time.

The idea that he had written a 6 hour script that had to split it into 3 and initially used the first third is very misleading. He certainly had ideas that were later developed for the other movies, but George struggled until the final draft of the movie to find a story he was happy with.

Whether you like Sci-Fi or Star Wars at all for that matter, you must admit Lucas is easily one of the best story tellers of all time. He’s definitely up there with Tolkien albeit Tolkien is obviously a bit more sophisticated, regardless if he is a step below or 2 under Tolkien, he’s still a legend in his own right. His world building is next level, to be able to make a world that’s influenced by everything from religion to technology. I understand that his dialogue writing skills and directing can be a bit off and definitely isn’t the best, but if you look past that, you’ll know that there was a lot of TLC given to the prequels despite if they weren’t the best in some peoples opinions. But the prequels will always be 1000x better than sequels hands down!! Anakins and Padmes kiss before entering the Geonosis arena was corny to a lot of people but I thought it was epic, it had that Shakespearean feel to it about love. Kylo kissing Rey and disappearing was just stupid and not a very satisfying ending for him, that love they had for one another never had substance to begin with it was obvious it was a rushed side plot. They may own his world now but I’ll always take Lucas side over Disney no matter what, so ya sorry if I have a bias, I just feel the sequels would’ve been 1000x better had Lucas co produced and co directed them, because him having a kingpin grip on everything doesn’t show off his true story telling potential. When he just wrote ESB and produced it, it easily became one of the greatest movies & sequels of all time! The thing that sucks about him was that he was always kind of an outsider in Hollywood, it almost feels like they deliberately made it hard for him to compete with the big studios because he was self made with a distribution deal with 20th Century Fox. He even says that everything he wanted to do after the clone wars show onward, was make a bunch of live action TV shows but with the cost of production, and him being his main investor, he had no choice but to eventually sell it. It was very possible he could’ve ran it into the ground. If he feels anyway about how his characters were used, he has the absolute right to be. Disney used the sequel trilogy just to shit all over George Lucas skywalker saga, the disrespect after selling it to them for $4billion. They can say all they want that amount given was the only way to save Star Wars and get him to sell the rights; ya because no one would sell it for any less to people he had a feeling would try and piss on his legacy. Who knows if he ever trusted Disney but I know he trusted Kathleen Kennedy, let’s just say we know George doesn’t always make the best decisions so choosing her to run Lucasfilm was not a great idea. She wants to pimp out Star Wars to Disney while Filoni and Favreau what to preserve it. Either way I grew up on Star Wars and George Lucas storytelling has influenced me in my music and writing short stories myself. I hope one day George can come back into an official role or to some filming capacity for something instead of being a consultant for others. I bet if you tried the ESB formula of someone else directing and Lucas producing , we’d probably get a great movie every time!!

@Jedisunscreen Yea, It's kind of awe inspiring how he started out as the little man, a talented but poor director, and built himself up into a juggernaut capable of rivaling the huge production companies. I guess he basically told himself that he was going to do it right. I've talked to a lot of people at LucasFilm and LucasArts and they all say that it's the best job in the world. They're given so much creative freedom and so many resources. Such a stark contrast to the other industry 'giants'.

He could have just walked away from A New Hope as a millionaire and been done with it. But he re-invested a chunk of it back into the next one. It takes some guts to do that honestly. It might be very easy to say I'm just walking away and can retire right now. There are plenty of sequels that flopped.

You can see it as a quick and easy retirement, but you aren't in his shoes - he was an eager filmmaker at the beginning of success. He wasn't thinking about being rich, he wanted to make movies. Most really successful people are not primarily interested in money - they want to succeed at their passion and make a meaningful contribution. Money only provides them the freedom and resources to pursue their dream.

Luke watches his mentor killed before his eyes, this gives him the fortitude to go on the journey. Imagine Obi wan on a headset at the end of ANH telling Luke to use the force because he's still alive. 4. They have no idea that they're related, both are attractive and the kiss is simply used to make Han jealous, so not incest. They don't know!

@lounza Ewan Mcgregor has been in a few films since Star Wars, Natalie Portman has become a huge star, and Hayden Christensen has had like three successful movies since then. Mark Hamil has an absolutely GINORMOUS list of voice acting roles under his belt now, most prominent being The Joker. The only Star Wars star who never really went anywhere big was Carrie Fisher, but that's not because she couldn't get any high-profile acting jobs. She can get on any movie she wants, she just doesn't.

And actually, at the end of the 3rd film, Yoda tells Obi that he'll instruct him on some things (Like talking to dead jedis).

The line,“An old friend had learned the path to immortality.” doesn't really sound like Yoda saying,"Hey, I'm going to teach you to talk to Qui-Gon Jin and be immortal when you die, so you can help Luke blow up the deathstar one day." But I guess it's open to interpretation. Sounds more like Qui-gon's going to teach Obi. Or Obi-Wan was part of a huge classroom of "younglings" taught by Yoda? 6. You need to watch more closely. 8. The main character is Anakin obviously as the prequels deal with his journey to becoming Darth Vader. You do understand the plot of the prequels? There are several themes running, the downfall of the Jedi, the rise of the Sith, Anakin's fall to the dark side, the living Force, the emperor's false flag conflict in order to create an army of clones to wipe out the Jedi. This all sets up the events in the original trilogy.

Episode 4 - 2 Hour Movie Episode 5 - 2 Hour Movie = 6 hours Episode 6 - 2 Hour Movie his original intentions for star wars was to have A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi all in one movie. But there was no way 20thFox would fund it.

I'm a fan of all the films except for maybe episode 1, the originals are the best in my opinion. The prequels are entertaining bc the story of Anakin Skywalker is maybe the greatest in cinema history. They did an awesome job of portraying Anakin's path to the dark side. But I wish I could go back in time & kill Natalie Portman before she auditioned for the role of padme. The prequel has its moments like when Anakin is defeated by Obi, but the originals are just more consistent.

If he's so hooked on editing more stuff into the Star Wars films, why doesn't he attempt to edit them all into one six hour epic like he imagined? That's something I would actually like to see!
