The original hans vs greedo scene is the best. Shows that han knows danger when he sees it and is not afraid to shoot first and ask later, like the true scoundrel he is supposed to be at that point in the story. Making him shoot second takes away the point of his development from scoundrel to rebellion freedom fighter. I think thats why the final version has them shoot simultaneously, it avoids taking away from his character development but also makes han not seem like a murderer . I still like the original better though, han knew greedo was trouble the second he sat down because he’s good at what he does and can recognize danger, so he shot before the danger could. It conveys hans skill and why he is a valuable asset to luke more so than the other versions of the scene imo.
@pvanukoffСағат бұрын
Agreed. I never once considered Han to be a murderer. They were in a "someone's gonna die" situation. Han knew it. It was him or Greedo. It reminds me (now) of the bar scene in Inglourious Basterds. Once they were found out, they knew what was going to happen next.
@Swenglish3 сағат бұрын
The dumbest thing about the observation that Han shot Greedo "in cold blood" in the original cut is that Greedo very clearly stated that he had no intention of letting Han live. "That's the idea" in response to "over my dead body" can only mean one thing. That combined with sitting across a table and pointing a gun at him... It was already self defense in the original cut. If Greedo's gun goes off, Han is dead. Those are the established stakes of the scene. For Greedo to shoot and Han to survive betrays the whole scene. So I have to conclude that in the special edition, Han died in that scene and the rest of the trilogy took place inside his dying brain.

Han shooting first is consistent with the various moments in the series where he demonstrated skills consistent of being Force-sensitive; he is reluctant to accept the reality of the Force, and doesn't wanna hear the odds, because he is too proud of his feats to accept it's not something he could've done with just raw skills.

Daisy Ridley has said that making Rey a Palpatine was not even set in stone while episode 9 was filming. Most of what disney has put out since has been used to explain the botched story their lack of planning turned the sequels into.

Basically every addition in the special editions is cack. But the lowlights for me have to be: The literal comedy scene of Jabba the Hutt badly inserted in New Hope, ruining his eventual, menacing reveal in RTJ. Luke and Obi Wan park up outside the Cantina at Mos Eisley only for a flood of random characters to suddenly pass the screen. It looks completely unnatural, as if everyone was waiting for their cue. It also breaks every cinematic rule on blocking, and is just plain ugly to look at. Cantina band. Obviously. The Sarlacc on RTJ. I HATE the beak and tentacles - it not only looks completely stupid and unrealistic, it's also MUCH less scary, looking like a dollar store Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors. I might hate this addition more than any other 😂

I saw Star Wars in the cinema aged 10 in 1977 and only saw Empire & Jedi at the cinema. When, many years later I saw this dated CGI offering, with no original even available, I remember actually thinking - Lucas has taken away a bit of my childhood. That may sound a little OTT but it's like when you revisit your childhood house and it's now unrecognisable, or the area of open land you always played on is a business park now. That's how those godawful additions feel to Star Wars. Except your house having double glazing or that industrial park were sort of progress. Seeing the CGI muppet alien singing with that wobbly throat thing feels the total opposite of progress.

Because of the remastering, the mat lines used for the optical effects were substantially more visible. When they announced the special edition, they said they were going to use it to fix visual problems and special effects. I was so excited to get the mat lines fixed because they always distracted me during the dog fights. I remember when I saw A New Hope Special Edition in theaters, how disappointed I was at the extremely visible mat lines were still there, while a whole bunch of other crap was added, that I did not enjoy.
