The Randall RM series with the removeable pre-amp sections was one of the greatest things to happen to the guitar amp! I've been a fan of George ever since the Tooth and Nail. What a awesome album that is, and it still kicks ass today!!!

I never tried that one but I had an RG75 solid state combo with a Celestion back in the 80s and got a tone close to Tooth and Nail. I loved that amp. Great clarity, crunch and a good clean tone as well. I wish I still had it.

Well you kinda answered party of your question, for effects. I'm not one for using a lot of over drive etc, since I like my amp tone, but something to boost leads, delay/ reverb, flange and phaser , and some chorus for clean stuff can just add another dimension to you fundamental tone no matter how great it is. Now if you prefer none of that and just want basic great sounding tone, that's cool too.

Listen to George back in the day and listen now....all those amps, pedals, fx....does he sound THAT different? Not really. If he has a distortion sound he likes and a short delay he’s gonna sound like George. If you want to sound like him, you need to learn (and use) some exotic scales, refine your vibrato, and practice. I’ve had a Mesa Triple Rec for years and it does precisely what I need. To freshen things up, I swap out overdrives and tube screamers when I get bored. Obviously, Lynch does the same thing with his overdrives! The basic metal rhythm tone of the Mesa combined with my ever evolving pedalboard of toys has served me well in all my original and tribute bands and in a variety of styles. Everything George mentions is a facet of his tone, but in reality, 85% of it is in his hands and head.

No, you can actually buy all that stuff for a reasonable price. Some of his pedals are still available at reasonable prices: Michael Angelo Overdrive ($150) Morley George Lynch Dragon 2 Wah ($162) As of the vintage pedals, you can easily find low priced clones of some of those pedals at Geargas Store and Reverb: Vintage Fulltone Deja-Vibe: Geargas Effects The Big Ern Vibe Univibe Pedal ($130), DLS Versa Vibe ($220, enhanced clone of Deja-Vibe but it's kinda overkill) Vintage MXR Phase 90: BYOC Classic Phaser($90, built of NOS parts used on original Phase 90), BYOC Phase Royal ($100, highly enhanced clone of Phase 90 with additional 6-stage phaser mode, built with same NOS parts) Vintage Ibanez TS808: BYOC 855 Drive ($85, built with NOS parts with true bypass), Wampler Clarksdale V2 Delta ($200, not only it does everything that a vintage TS808 can do but also has more options) DOD OD Preamp 250: BYOC Lil Gray OD ($80, kinda cramped due to its size but sounds the same) As for his amps his best tones are from the Soldano SLO 100, you can get quite near to it with a Jet City Amplification 100 HDM ($650) with SLO OD channel mod ($60), Pedal friendly loop mod ($30) and Noise Reduction mod ($60) running through a Mojotone 4x12" loaded with Greenbacks ($1130). As for his guitar any good quality guitar with Seymour Duncan Distortion pickup should do the job. Jackson Pro Series Soloist SL2 comes loaded with them straight out of the box for $900 So a total of $2842 for amps and pedals if you buy the DLS Versa Vibe, Wampler Clarksdale, etc. And a total of $2637 for amps and pedals if you stick purely to the BYOC clones from Geargas Store. And $900 for guitar. Sounds doable if you purchase one stuff at a time. But as far as talent is considered, it's priceless, no money can buy it.

Randall RG100 and Plexis modded and stock were the mainstay of his 80s amp tones... the SLO100 mixed with the Marshall was the Lynch mob period everything else is whitewash MTS/Lynchbox/etc. If you want the classic 80s Lynch tone get an RG100 off eBay or use a modeler for a Plexi and Soldano sound or get the real amps if you have the $$. A Korg delay and Tube Screamer is all you need. George's sound is not as elusive as the much better holy grail EVH brown sound.

i refuse to buy any "signature" pedal that doesn't say EVH on it - even the stuff that does say EVH on it are not multi function pedals - they're meat and potatoes stuff (Flanger, Phaser, Wah). Less is more with tone. If your amp, guitar and cabinet don't give you 90% of what you want, you're on the wrong track. P.S. Only George sounds like George.

If you went into a music store that carried every pedal that exists... would you use your ears to demo them to see what you like or would you use someone else's ears (like George Lynch)? Are you your own guitar hero or do you deny your greatness and worship at the altar of other men who are just regular guys like we are who love to play? Do you want to leave that gear store with stuff you like the sound of or stuff that some other player likes the sound of? "I can make any rig talk." - Neal Schon George is a great player and I love his stuff, but if that amber colored ESP sitting there is George's and it has an EMG bridge pickup, then everything he says about "bad tone being the enemy" is BS. Hopefully it doesn't have an EMG pickup (barf). :) You don't need to buy anything. Unless you want to raise somebody's stock prices.
